Quote from brandons48 :Lol, you dumbasses saying "It's not Colin McRae any more! Waaah! It should be Ken Block, waaah!"

The games are a TRIBUTE to Colin McRae, ever since he died his family said that they wanted Codemasters to keep making the games to keep the McRae name alive.

My word you people are really blunt sometimes.

Well take a second to think now mate: they made a game about ken block with title of Colin Mcrae...

tribute or not i think it is getting ridicilous by the point of Colins memory.
Before calling us a dumbasses take a minute think about yourself.

Don't get exited. You don't get it do you...
Yes ofcourse it is a rally game, but game is basically tribute to ken block now instead of colin mcrae (through all those commercials for example),
I think it is time to move on since the only thing left From Colin is a name

Edit* On the other side yes i see your point also brandon.
How could they make a trailer with Colin Mc Rae driving when he is dead (R.I.P.)? Explain me that.
Quote from Luke.S :exactly dirt 2's thread. This is dirt 3 whole new game so it deserves it's own thread.

Then I'm making a thread every time i take a dump.

Codemasters gets a new thread every time they take a shit, why can't I?

Actually its a tribute for Ubisoft/Codemasters long pocket... Don´t be ashamed to hop on the waggon...
Quote from VoiD :Actually its a tribute for Ubisoft/Codemasters long pocket... Don´t be ashamed to hop on the waggon...

And every single other game from other companies arent...

Because suddenly only CM care about money.
I think they're stretching the good name of Colin McRae. Time they changed it, it's not got much to do with the man, may he R.I.P.

Anyways, even if it isn't a good sim, I'd still buy it. Wait, no, I'm skint. Ah well, demo for me
Quote from E.Reiljans :Nah, he's an Monster Energy's advertising whore.

No, he's actually a pretty good driver too. It just so happens that Monster will give him a lot of money to drive well.
Sadly I say +1 to this.
Quote from Bose321 :+1

He's a commercial whore.

Yet he is making money doing nothing. While you, well, you just waist your life doing nothing.

I think I know which one I'd rather be.
Dirt 3 is the last in the series anyway so you wont have to worry about Colin McRae's name being used anymore as it isnt used currently it only gets used cause everyone is used to saying Colin McRae<insert name here> that it gets used then adopted over the actual name.
Quote from Luke.S :They don't care. They think just cause it won't be uber realistic it will be shit. I bet there will be another CMR tribute video in this game. Hell they even have his car.

These games are part of his legacy, DIRT2 was slagged off for focusing too much on the X-Games stuff, but that was the stuff Colin was doing late in his career, and now Codemasters have listened and focused a lot more on WRC I'm sure there will be Colin Mcrae tributes every 5 minutes in this game.
Quote from Nathan_French_14 :And your basing that on a Trailer which is a render, and Images that are renders.

Well done, Idiot...

on the render alone, its another code masters.... eh.... " classic "

dont give me'a cumback - your Bf will complain...

Making money is the majority a driver's daily work, that's the same for every professional driver except the lucky ones who had already made it big.

Have you even played Dirt 2? It was such a huge improvement over Dirt 1, both in terms of physics and just pure FUN. I have no idea why you would think Dirt 3 is going to be crappy after seeing no game play what so ever. I know your not the brightest tool in the box, but I thought you would be smarter than that.

And as for the BF comment, I have no idea where you've gotten that one from.
So who's playing this?

My impressions so far...

Physics/Controls
Feels a lot like Dirt2 really, the only thing that is new is tyre deformation (i can definately feel it, it's also possible to see it in replays actually... not as good as LFS, but it's there). Feels slightly arcade sometimes (i think the cars still rotate around a center axis). Nevertheless, cars handle well and are responsive to your input. Feel of weight could be better, it's not bad tho, better than GT5 or FM3 at least. It's not a sim, but close enough to be very enjoyable.

I regret it a little that i've decided for the xbox version, since people on PS3 are reporting the game to handle quite nicely with a G25/G27.

Gameplay/Content/Career
They said this one would focus much more on classic rally stages again... which isn't really true. There's only four countries for rallying and quite often you're driving parts of the same stages. Needs more countries with different stages urgently!

I'd say it's almost an even mix of classic rally stages, Trailblazer, Raid, Rallycross and Gymkhana. If you're hoping for a lot of rally stages, you'll be left disappointed. Also, roads are still far to wide for a rally game...
Gymkhana is a great addition tho, it's a lot of fun!!

Car selection is nice! There's some good variety from modern WRC cars to good old classics (going back as far as 1960 even).

Difficulty is good for me. There's a setting you can adjust going from 1-6 (6 being the hardest setting). If you play it on "pro", difficulty is set to 5 and so far i didn't feel like raising it to 6... if i do a very good run, i usually finish with a lead of about two seconds at best.
I had to restart some events a few times because of minor mistakes. Gymkhana events are actually pretty hard to master perfectly... there's always bronze, silver and gold to win, which are easy... but then there's also platinum which can be very hard to reach (replayed a single event for four hours yesterday until i got it right!). Definately feels rewarding IMO!

The career is ok for me since i'm trying to win everything and get all platinum medals, which requires lots of restarts for the difficulty i chose (and my driving skills). However, if you are either REALLY fast, or don't care about platinum medals or finishing 2nd in a few rally stages... i guess it could be way too short for some people.

IMO it's a fun game to play with a nice mix of events and cars.

Graphics
Again, pretty much like Dirt2. I feel like water splash effects looked a little nicer in Dirt2 actually... otherwise i couldn't really see a big difference.
For an xbox game it looks very nice. A little too much blur/glow/etc for my taste, but then again, this seems to be a big trend nowadays...

Haven't seen any glitches or "ugly" things so far. It all looks pretty good to my eyes (again, for an xbox game that is).

Online
Haven't played it online yet to be honest. The new modes should be quite entertaining (capture the flag with cars in a gymkhana arena for example)!

If it's anything like Dirt2, i know i'll have a lot of fun!
It's the best Dirt game made. The physics are probably the best arcadey physics I've ever tried.

It sucks that they are still trying to be 'cool' or 'hip' or whatever. And the challenges are somewhat repetitive.
I kinda love this game... Excellent arcade phyiscs with a realistic feeling. The FFB really feels nice, and the game is nice to play on 720 degrees compared to some other modern games.

I have the PC version and agree with this.

I can add that it is very good with the G25 once it's set up properly, each car feels like it has its own style to drive it - best example would be the Sierra RS500 vs the Escort Cosworth - The RS500 is a pain to drive but really rewarding when you get it right, where as the Cossie is much easier to drive, but to drive it fast does take some effort.

Graphics look pretty good on PC even on my modest system (C2D E8200, 6GB DDR2 RAM, GTX260) and it runs very smooth even on high settings.

There's a mod out for PC that alters the lighting to be more realistic and another that lets you reduce the grip to the value you want - I'll give them both a go tonight.

So far though - I'm having massive fun with this semi-sim. Gymkhana is awesome!
Got a link to that lighting mod?
