The online racing simulator
Air Horn Sound/Noise from Spectators
Just a little make-up suggestion. It could be implemented randomly or while car/cars passing opponent(s) and at the race finish. ATM, this would be nice and more realistic.

See

PS: I do know, thus please don't reply such as "There are more important things to do"
I think he means the air horn the spectators use when the cars are passing by. You see them in most sport events.

+1 from me, anyway. Spectators clapping and what not adds to realism.
Quote from zeugnimod :"Air horns have been installed on large semi-trailer trucks, fire trucks, and some ambulances for many years. It is also used on trains as a warning device, and on ships as a signalling device."

I don't see any large semi-trailer trucks, fire trucks, ambulances, trains and ships in LFS.

And plus in handy sprays.. http://www.grandprixlegends.co ... accessories/Air-Horn.html

Quote from hazaky :+1 ... Its not neccesary. And we need a proper simulator not somekinda NFSU with riced stuff in it.

Please don't be prejudiced. I didn't suggest neons under cars.

Yes..

its in gran turismo 4 and not in NFS
I was actually thinking this the other day.
The specters are just to static at the moment no cheering or anything i want some atmosphere!
Nearly all Formula 1 races and most DTM races I watch you can hear many of them in the background.

It would be a nice feature to help the simmers feel more like their actually racing. I really love this idea.

I believe I heard in another sim that you could create a "Box" of an area where if anyone went through, it could trigger an action. Not sure if it's possible with LFS.

+1 Would love it.

don't they already clap and cheer if you podium or win?
This will spice up LFS and give it a little more realistic feeling to drive. a big +1 for me
Except you can't hear the horns or the crowd from inside a racing car (except on parade laps and suchlike)
While it might be audible from the driver's seat, it would be good for replays. I'd give this one a +0.5

and semi trucks .

dont flame me, but i´m for it. (and btw since when do the spectators in nfs u2 make horn noise?!) anyways, it always anoyed me in a race, that we have hunreds of spectators but its quiet, that you would hear a fart. and if you know racing or even soccer, you would know that they make noise.

Quote from LFSn00b :I doubt its that hard to find some spectator sounds and convert them to ogg and put in lfs/ogg?

mee too. its only a sound like in nfsps that gets played on several places.
Hey, everyone's for it. I just think the first two guys thought the OP was proposing of adding truck horns to the cars.
Quote from tristancliffe :Except you can't hear the horns or the crowd from inside a racing car (except on parade laps and suchlike)

I think it will work exactly as in RL.

From TV cam the sound will be ok, and for the driver cam you have the cockpit muffler, and a louder engine sound, so...the air horns will sound only a bit (if it is even audible).
Then what we need is dynamic crowds. The more people spectating on a server, the more people appear in the crowd and the more noise the grandstands make.
Spaced around the track, about 50-100 crowd members per spectator could be good, so with 20 spectators you get 2000 people round the track.

Then they need dynamic noises, so that if someone goes off the track or there's a collision, the crowd sound nearby changes to concerned tense noises.

The amount of detail you could go into is mad, but it would be very good in terms of creating atmosphere and keeping everyone involved.

Thank you John for nice and enthusiastic vids.
Just a suggestion to this idea, why not get the crowd stir a little bit if a car spins out or some other event (applauding from recovering from a near crash), or even "cheering on" the car in last position, instead of just approaching the spectators.

I also have a couple of examples I recorded in Montreal last June of this kind of thing. The spin out example was of a Porsche 911 race car. Most of the time the crowd is silent, if not quiet. The only voices heard most of the time are from the commentators talking on loudspeakers.

EDIT: found a link for an external mod that does the same

No horns or screaming crowds - no one attends alpha racing sessions.
Maybe not important. But it's fun and not hard to realize. I think it's a good idea.
Why not add a "Spectators" option ? (None/Few/Many/Full) It's related to the sounds talked about here.

This option will not change any thing in the physics system.

I lol'd touche proberly the best call Ive seen for a while.
Adding some atmosphere I think would really help LFS. One of the reasons I've been slowly wandering over to other sims is that LFS, while it's a great simulation, is an incredibly soulless and clinical experience. It feels like you and a bunch of friends are the only people left on the planet after some horrific virus has killed everyone else, and you've broken into some race-tracks to mess about with the cars.
You have a vivid imagination, but i can see what you mean.
