Quote from anttt69 :is there a pit window?

There will be one mandatory pitstop per event with the exception of the two rallycross events. Pitstops can be taken any time except the first or last lap.

Quote from Michel 4AGE :mm I dunno. Might be smart to make early pitstop so you can drive in "free air" then and put in some good laps..

That was actually my cunning plan, but there might be others thinking the same - not to mention that if you pit in early and damage your car/burn your tyres the mandatory pitstop is gone. Maybe I need to re-think my strategy

Ain't that much different in pool3 either

But it's good to start from behind in a way - at least you don't have much to loose. Maybe I'll do like Kimi and fight my way to podium... or not

Sorry, I was determined to drive XRT in this one but I really, really, really sucked with it - and this wasn't a drifting event

Because our ISP (webhotel) is failing at the moment due to DOS attack they are facing, we have launched a temp site with main functions. You can view qualifying table and check the server password. Joining to OLFSL and season is disabled, as well as member profile management.

The official site will be up as soon as the problems mentioned above have been fixed - hopefully soon.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

I wish I could make the site work, but it's up to our ISP at the moment. Can't even connect to their website, so I bet they'll be working on it

They better anyway, loosing a customer this way

-edit---
Finally managed to load ISP's site, and got news:

I have mentioned about using the same nickname in LFS and in the OLFSL site. Not recently, but I did - and I would definately like to see that happen.

But as you said, it's a minor thing and my resources are limited - so that I tend to take care of major things rather than focus on something like racernames. In most cases the name is at least nearly the same, so I don't agree with you about registering being useless.

Do you want to be our Use Your Registered OLFSL Name -manager, ehh?

It was not my intention to discourage you not to. Just to make it clear

...and this has been discussed several times in past seasons too.

There is only two options:

a) we continue with the flexibility to change into lower pool if the original pool is timed so that a racer can't make it there - with a proper reason

b) we continue so that if the timetable isn't suitable for all, those who miss the race get either 0 points or DNSH (-40) points depending if they informed about their absence.

So far the majority quietly has voted for flexibility - as do I also.

What comes to pool 7 this weekend - I take full responsibility as host/individual for that second addition to grid (KARMA Hash, I believe). It was my personal decision to include a racer outside grid at the late moment. It is also a decision that can be challenged by sending an appeal to our Appeals Arbiter (you can find the address from Contact us -page in OLFSL site).

Thread opened for comments before/after the race on Sunday.

I don't know about you, but my first (and only) goal is to bring my LX-mobile home safe. Last few times I've ended the race my helmet scraping the pavement and tyres pointing toward the sky

Pool 3, watch out

OLFSL S2 Pit For Speed !
varjsa-9

On behalf of the OLFSL staff, I am more than happy to announce our much anticipated next season, OLFSL S2 Pit For Speed. Nomen est omen, therefore the theme for this new season is mandatory pitstops - there will be one per event with the exception of the two rallycross events. Pitstops can be taken any time except the first or last lap.

Another theme is to race two consecutive events at the same (or similar) track, but with different cars/classes. We tried to use a mixture of something new and something old and we hope you like it. The last event of season is really a classic combination of cars & track, but with the updated Blackwood it is really worth revisiting. The season will launch on the 30th of March 2008 - we are really looking forward to this and hope to see all of you with us on track.

Some of you got familiar with the new online qualifying system (LFSQual) we tested through the Warmup events and it will used throughout this season too. For those who didn't get to try it yet; after qualifying is open (normally right after race) you have 12 laps available to make your best time. A lap is counted when you cross the first split, so make good use of your laps. You are, of course, allowed to practice offline as much as you wish but the qualifying lap must be done online on a predefined server. Also, there will be a staff member spectating the qualifying session for the last 2-3 hours to make sure there are no problems. We strongly suggest that you don't leave it to the final hour to avoid crowding the server.

The schedule is updated and you are free to subscribe to season.

Gentlemen, warm you engines...

Quote from Solar Hydro :One more link to put the Prius vs Hummer story to bed...

http://www.pacinst.org/topics/ ... udies/hummer_vs_prius.pdf

Solar Hydro

Thank you for this Sol - saved my day in a way. Now I god some new material for our "coffee-table" conversation at work

About the more recent conversations... how come no one mentioned nuclear fusion as future energy source? At the moment it seems as realistic way to replace fossile/conventional nuclear power as do those green alternatives mention above - meaning that it might happen in future, distant future.

While this topic is on table, China and India seem to be doing huge leaps to economic wealth - which also leads to increase of emissions (sidenote: did you spot the announcement of words cheapest car a while ago? great news ). And while that is happening, old "giants" are still heavily using coal/oil to produce energy - the very same energy that this laptop is sucking from my "wall". Suddenly, it all seems futile - in fact, I strongly believe that absolutely nothing serious will be done untill something really catastrofic happens and most likely then - if this all is even caused by humans - it will be too late for action.

Not pointing fingers here though, nor am I saying I'm any better...
  • I have PC running 24/7 and using 200 watts in here just to act as a server
  • I live in old building (1970's or so) which is really not that energy efficent - no heat recovery technology used for example
  • My car is from year 1999 and definately uses gasoline to move around, though it's a bit better than the previous 1985 model that didn't even have catalysator - not that it would alone make it perfect. And am really reluctant to sell my car and walk or use bus
  • And so on...
...just wanted to say something with my limited knowledge, that had not yet raised up here - and maybe do a confession to feel better
