Here's a direct comparison of with haze and without.
The haze effect can clearly be seen, even on objects in front of the bridge. Looks like it was just my memory that was hazy all along, sorry for the false alarm, and thanks to everyone who responded.
Yes, I think that's what I'm seeing too. Except in the mirrors, where it affects the view of trackside objects as well.
I'm pretty sure I remember the effect being a lot more noticable on track, especially on the main Blackwood straight for example, where you can see a long way. It's as if the effect has been turned down for the normal view, but not for the mirrors.
I've just done a bit more testing and it seems I'm wrong, the haze effect does still function.
I'm pretty sure I remember it being a lot more noticable than it is now. Might just be my memory playing tricks on me though.
What seems strange is that the effect does seem a lot more noticable in the mirrors. For example, if I sit on the track at SO looking at one of the windmills (for want of the correct word), switching haze on and off makes no difference to my view of the windmill. However, if I spin the car around so I can see the windmill in the wing mirror of my FOX and switch haze on and off I can notice a difference, the blades of the windmill become less distinct. Maybe I'm just going crazy illepall
Is it worth me posting some screenshots, anyone interested?
Unfortunately I've no idea when it last worked, as I've only just noticed that it isn't working now. This is a fresh XP install, the only thing that has changed that would affect it I can think of is the nvidia forceware drivers, which is why I just wondered if anyone else is getting the problem.
Maybe I should re-word the question:
Does the haze effect work for anyone using a GeforceFX5900XT? If so, which forceware driver version are you running?
Problem: 'Haze' effect no longer functions. Setting to Yes or No makes no difference, I don't see any haze.
Hardware: Asus A7N8X-E, Barton 3200+, 1Gb DDR400, GeforceFX5900XT 128Mb
Software: WinXP Pro SP2, all updates installed, ForceWare 77.76, LFS S2P2
I'm guessing it's a nvidia driver problem, but before I go through the hassle of trying different driver versions I wondered if anyone else with a similar setup is experiencing the issue?
True enough, I was just thinking about the info posted here.
Couldn't agree more. I now get that buzz through T1, it was a pretty boring corner to me before. I'll try it at 114, but I have a feeling I'll be visiting the kitty litter. My nerves just won't take it
That's not a bad idea, thanks, I might go have a look see what I can find.
Hmm yeah, thinking about the shape of the wheel, you're right, it's going to have to be made specifically for the MSFF, and I very much doubt such a thing exists.
The more I see the letters DFP the more I feed the need to smash that piggypank to pieces - well, throw a credit card number at an online store anyway. What's the secret, how do you get the missus to suggest it?
Yeah, I was trying to get around T1 the way I'd seen Tristan drive it in practice. To be honest, realising that you can actually get through T1 without dropping below 110mph is probably what helped me set 3 PBs in qually, and for that I must thank Tristan, as it was only by watching him that I realised just how quickly you can get through there.
I definitely should have taken a more defensive line with Tristan right on my gearbox, but I had a real Montoya moment and just nailed it trying to get around there as quickly as I could. Not very sensible really, what I should have done was backed off a little and let him through and had a go at drafting into the next braking zone. Well OK, I should have just let him go and resigned myself to another lost position, as thinking I could keep up is just fooling myself really.
Isn't it great to have a discussion like this where we are talking about races we drove in rather than watched on TV?
That was great fun! Was well happy with my qually performance, 3 personal bests, but I badly messed up both races.
Spun at the chicane early on in the sprint race, dropped to 12th and struggled to recover, then went and did exactly the same in the feature race.
Edit: No, I got that completely wrong. I'd already dropped to 12th, and spun at T1 not the chicane. That was the feature race. Anyone else realising that memory is a thing of the past?
Tristan - sorry for my sarcastic 'thanks' after our contact at T1 on lap 9 put me heavily into the barriers. At the time I thought it was my corner, but looking at the replay I see you were actually right up alongside me and I turned into you, definitely my mistake, sorry.
I managed to get out of the gravel and struggle back round to the pits (hope I didn't get in anyones way, left a lovely black tyre line all the way around the circuit), but it took the best part of 7 minutes and effectively that was my race over. My pit crew did a great job of fixing the car though, and I came back out behind TagForce and crusied the last half of the race 3 laps down.
VIP UA - thanks for the set earlier in the week, first lap with it I smashed my PB
