Quote from DaveWS :LOL. Well, no real money has been spent on developing the sounds.

that's different to having no budget though :P

Edit2: It's bloody frustrating sometimes, a whole team of professional guys supposedly work on the sound for iRacing, and they have everything available to them. Meanwhile LFS has no budget, nothing available, and is able to produce a synthesized sound to an OK level without any real life samples...

Where does the no budget come from? They've made good money from LFS. How do you think they managed to include a car stereo in the FXR?

Noobs are really dangerous at Lime Rock!!!
The first few turns you really have to be very carefull cause one can just take you out

yeah, totally..... but once you get past the first few corners you should be okay. You have to decide if its best to qualify and get to the front of the muppets for the start OR sit at the back and watch them take each other out

Probably doesn't help Dave but you do get one restart I think, even in the Mazda....... you come back on a lap behind but can be worth it. Sad you had a bad one

Quote from Crommi :Excited about Lotus too, but most likely I'll just end up throwing it into tire barriers time after time.

Here's an interesting blog from the developer of the Lotus.....

http://www.iracingworld.com/_M ... 79/blog/434534/57752.html

excerpt...........

Quote :“FAST! Unbelievably FAST!” That’s the first thing that popped into my head the first time I drove a development build of the Lotus 79 in the sim. I just couldn’t believe the grip, the acceleration. I always figured I have a pretty good idea of just how quick a Grand Prix car would be behind the wheel. But the sensation I got when I finally started making laps just blew me away. The car just screamed up the Esses at Watkins Glen. 130, 140, 150 and then 160 mph all before reaching the backstretch! On the brakes hard at 175 mph and shoot like a canon through the Bus Stop. “Wow!” I thought to myself, “How could any sane person ever strap themselves in one of these things for real”. This thing is literally a rocket ship! The funny part is I didn’t get the full sense of how much performance this car was going to have. Although the stats on paper look very impressive, driving it just something entirely different.

thanks mate..... downloading.... those two are bloody fast too. Glad you got put in a top field. Some very good racing to be had in the skippy.

I'm looking forward to this next week actually. Full Sebring track. Should be a good blast but I think on a track like that it needs a larger field.......

Quote from UncleBenny :I was just pointing out that you don't just automatically lose a certain amount of SR, it drops because it is weighted differently. Essentially it ends up being the same thing, but people might not realize why you take a bigger hit in SR when you get incidents at higher license levels, its because the rules are different.

no, I agree... but he was asking (I think) why he got a drop in SR when he got promoted, not why he gets a bigger drop in SR when he has an incident during A race......

I have to say, its made me really think this time if I want to go up a license to A in road this time. I do tend to make one or two mistakes in a race and thats enough in a B license race to stop you getting much if any SR! I think with A, I'm going to seriously struggle. However, hoping that the Lotus comes out soon, I'll be able to drive it. It'll probably sods law and you'll need a B license and my SR will be 1.0

Quote from UncleBenny :That's not exactly true. Your SR is calculated differently based on your license level, so when you move up a license, your SR gets recalculated for your new license. The higher you get the stricter it is, so you generally lose SR every time you get promoted.

you've basically agreed with what I said.... Each time you get promoted, you lose SR. Each license I have got, be it in road or oval, I've lost + or - 1.0 in SR each time. This has been the case with Road License from rookie all the way to A license. After asking 6 other people, they have had exactly the same.

Quote from JeffR :I got to check out iRacing at a friend's house and made the same discovery, it needs about 1/3rd to 1/2 throttle to be happy, depending on engine rpms.

It appears to be due to the differential, the coast side ramps are set too loose, and the power side ramps are set too tight. If this was GPL, it would be the equivalent of an 85/85/4 differential. The problem is that I could see no way to adjust the differential, and trying to compensate for this with suspension tweaks would end up making the car even tighter under power.

With it's screwball differential setup, the SRF's (scca Spec Racing Ford) only purpose would seem to be to teach left foot braking (while modulating the throttle with right foot) Otherwise it's a terrible setup, and worse yet, it's intended for the novice drivers. It would be the the car of choice for the "we're glad LFS is harder and more realistic now club ".

After testing all the cars you get with the free 1 month trial (promotional code is PR-RADICAL-ONE-MONTH), the Radical was the easiest of the group to drive. It's differential setup (not adjustable on any of the cars I tested) seemed reasonable, leaving the in game suspension setups to be enough to taylor the car for a particular driving style. However it would take months for a new player to be able to race with the Radical becase of the marketing scheme where class advancment is slow.

The Solstice was gutless with not much grip, not a fun car. The Legends was the opposite of the SRF, happy with lift throttle during corner entry, prone to oversteer under throttle.

Very true about the Radical. It would take a while to get to be able to compete with it. A minimum of 4 months to get to a license you can drive it.

Quote from arco :Do you loose safety rating points when you're promoted? I had a SR of 3.4 a few weeks ago, and was promoted to class D. Haven't been driving since then, but now when I logged in at the member site I see my SR is down to 2.4.

yeah, you lose a 1.0 when you go up a license. The idea being to then race cars a license above that you have to put work in to get your SR up there again

Quote from pearcy_2k7 :Yeah i got on it, really boring though, theres little or no competition. Really strange how it osrt of on train tracks, theres only 1 entry to a corner, you can't carry more speed or try a different line. Is 1.49.2 any good?

you can check your times by clicking the stats in the menu then World Records in the sub menu......

At Laguna in the Solstice, the record in Practice is 1.47.5.

1.49 is pretty good though mate

There's some really good competition in the Spec Racer

Quote from DaveWS :Thanks for that! In that case I think I'll subscribe for a year. The 25$ extra deal has swung me!

P.S. Sorry Scawen

I think giving the extra $25, making it $85 total is good. Would be great if you could work your butt off for the next 3 weeks and get in to the top 250 Dave. Remember, they are banking on the fact that all the people will want to be part of the Pro Series too. I'm sure some don't or don't have the time so this will allow those a little lower to still get in.

We need Moose on there to REPRASENT!!!!!!!!!!

Quote from DaveWS :Quite a long way off then I see. I'm pretty sure my SR rank is letting me down massively. I remember somewhere that entrants for the pro series are decided by the end of Q2 of this year, so that means that's happened already?

I might be wrong but I thought that the cut off was the end of this series.... in 3 weeks.

Read this mate....

Quote :July 07,2009 - Three Weeks and counting in iRacing Pro Series Qualifying
It’s three weeks and counting for those of you trying to qualify for the 2009 iRacing Pro Series (iPS). Qualify and you’ll have a chance tocompete in the inaugural edition of the world’s premier virtual racing series, the 2010 iRacing Drivers World Championship (iDWCfeaturing the top 50 oval and road racers in the iPS.

But first you have to qualify for the iPS. To do that you’ll need to earn one of the Pro Licenses awarded to the top 250 oval or road racers (based on a 70/30 weighted average of iRating and Safety Racing) in Class C and above during 2009 Season 2.

As they have throughout Season 2, NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and virtual racing icon Greger Huttu lead the oval and road racing rankings. In contrast, the battles for the runner-up spots are anything but settled. No sooner did John Prather commandeer second spot in the road racing ratings a week ago, than Peter Read and Russell Hodgson muscled him down to fourth ahead of Patrick Baldwin over the course of the past seven days. And while Thomas Hazard continues to occupy second in the oval rankings, Brad Davies has now moved past Steve Sheehan and Pat Dotson for the third spot.

If anything, the competition for the final spots in the twin 250s is even more spirited. Currently rated 245 through 250 on the ovals, Richard Wilson, Les Turner, Josh Skroupa, Dave Caskanette, Dave Long and Clint Monahan are secure . . . for now. But they know it won’t take much for Doug Heveron (251), Josh Smathers (252), Larry Stone (253), Terry McCuin (254) and Jimmie Helie (255) to overtake them in the ratings.

Likewise, a virtual United Nations of road racers, including Germany’s Heiko Dilk and Alexander Link, Robinson Shields of the USA, the United Kingdom’s Neil Hind, Finland’s Saku Jalkanen and Cyrille Bouchard of Canada, are looking over their shoulders as the likes of the UK’s Andy Marson, Diego Palacios of Spain, Australian George Fullerton and Americans Jimbo Pfeiffer and Timothy Villanueva seek to overhaul them in the battle for the final iPS qualifying spots.

Anything can happen between now and July 27 . . . and it almost certainly will. To keep track of all the developments in the scramble for the final qualifying spots for the 2009 iPS click here and here and, in the meantime, keep racing.

Hope that helps mate

Quote from DaveWS :Is it still possible to get into the pro series thingy coming up soon if I renewed pretty sharpish?

Position-----Rating------Driver-------------iRating Rank----SR Rank----Club--------Country
897---------1023.2-----David Williams------344------------2608-------England-----United Kingdom

you're currently position 897 for the road series. Quite a bit off the top 250 but position 344 on the irating list. I can't remember how its worked out but your position is 897, even though your iRating rank is 344...

Quote from gizmo2k5 :I have been on this forum a while and enjoyed playing LFS for quite some time. Of course i needed to take my own car out to a race track and see how it stacks up to LFS

My comparison is LFS prepared me well but nothing comes close to the real deal - as realistic as LFS is or any other sim for that matter, actually being there is like nothing else and i really really want to go again

I know it isn't an incredibly fast car - probably as fast as an XFG but it's a 1999 ford focus 1.8 16v with eibach lowering springs and a pipercross panel filter. had it dyno'd kinda recently and it is putting out 122bhp @5500rpm and 122ft/lb@4500rpm

I did a track day at Brands a couple of times. Totally agree with you... nothing like the real thing Try Donnington or Cadwell... they are both great too

If I'm not mistaken, what you need is a crossover cable rather than a standard cat5. The ends are configured differently.
