Some of those 0-countersteer 4-wheel drifts looked strange, can't recall them happening with that same car in RF1, atleast to that level.

September 2015 maybe. It was pretty clear already by the announcement that they wouldn't meet that 2014 September deadline. Especially considering that they haven't even finished Spa yet - which they've worked on for a far longer time and it's a much smaller project than the ring.

Liikesumeus alone wouldn't work, unless you translate it as something like "Vähennetty liikesumeus" because toggling low persistence ON reduces the blurring.

Are these lines directly from the Rift, or can they be translated aswell?

Quote from Krane :I would say that's Scawen's problem...

Though, The " - Paina mitä tahansa nappia" -bit is redundant if there is an OK button visible. Is it needed or not?

Well, I think it would be good to have something there to inform the users that they can also press any key to continue. "Ymmärrän - paina mitä tahansa nappia" is slightly too long aswell, as I just tried it out. This is why I hate translating software!

Quote from Krane :Well I had no idea whatever that was the begin with.... From http://www.tomshardware.com/news/oculus-rift-cry..... I tried to decipher what it is. Pysyvyys I would think is wrong.

Yes, tried to think what would be an accurate and short translation for it that would fit in the menu, but couldn't come up with anything better. Anyway, this is how tech sites have solved this translation "issue" and maybe it gives you further ideas how to translate it:

"Viiveen pienentämisen ohella yhtiö on onnistunut vähentämään merkittävästi pään kääntymisestä johtuvaa liikesumeutta ”low persistence” -tekniikalla."

Now it's updated, but I don't feel comfortable just translating the strings of text. Matrixi or somebody that actually has a 3D headset should check whether they match the context.

Tried it out, all the Rift translations look accurate and correct. The initial health & safety OK button went over this bit of text though.

*Edit: Going through them again, "Alhainen virkistystaajuus" in the view/Rift menu might be better to be translated something else, because now it pretty much says low refresh rate which isn't entirely true. Not sure what I'd translate "low persistence" to in finnish... "alhainen/matala pysyvyys"? Or simply leave it untranslated, which seems like what most finnish tech sites have done regarding low persistence.

Yeah, I'm aware there are standalone watches which is why I said there aren't many rather than any... but my point is that using a smartwatch as a single standalone device is a horrible idea! They work the best as an extension, for now atleast.

Just look at that Gear S for example, typing on such a tiny screen seems like a wonderful user experience.

Anyway, post more watches people! While I'm a fan of the upcoming smartwatch technology, I still find the mechanical beauty of ordinary watches to be great to behold.

I don't think there even are many standalone smartwatches that function without a phone. They act more like an extension for your phone by hooking up to it via bluetooth.

Android wear is exclusive (for now) to android phones, Apple watch will be exclusive to IOS devices, and Pebble is mostly universal, but it's also pretty limited feature wise and quite bulky in its design.

It's a pity that Motorola went with an ancient energy hungry SOC on the moto 360, but I'm willing to put up with one day long battery life simply because it looks so much better than anything else out there.

Yeah, screw smartphones too. Everyone should just get a REAL phone that only does phonecalls and SMS. It's easy to knock on something you haven't even used or tried.

In 5 years time, I suspect smartwatches will be getting as popular as smartphones are now. A few generations of SOC development to improve the battery life will do wonders, until then they are enthusiast devices for us "gadget freaks".

As I don't sleep with a watch on my wrist, I don't mind dropping it in to the wireless charger once a day. Do smartwatches need a lot of further development for average joes? That's obvious - we're still barely in the first generation of wearable devices.

The concept behind them is still wonderful. Not having to dig up your phone just to read an email/SMS or set a quick reminder sounds brilliant to me. There's also the geeky stuff like using it for unlocking/starting your car, adjusting home lighting and heating or simply using it as a remote control for a DSLR.

There will be a ton of different applications that people haven't even thought of yet for smartwatches. Looking at photos and videos on a tiny screen isn't one of them, unlike what Apple wants to believe.

At least you could assign /shift F to a wheel button?

I'm at the point now where I don't want to add more features for version G. I can only fix any serious issues. There is plenty more to be done for the Rift but in a later version. Now the aim is to get a DK2 version online so people don't need to install a test patch. Then I can carry on with some things that are needed for the Westhill update.

I have done that on my simrig/steering wheel as a quick fix, but a toggle in the settings would be a more sophisticated solution for new users. It's also a bit inconvenient when doing testing on my desktop setup with a PS4 gamepad that has all of its few buttons assigned.

It's not a showstopping issue, but something to perhaps implement later on when getting back on the VR support, along with direct mode once the SDK matures for that. I totally understand that getting the official DK2 patch out is a priority at the moment, I'm sure you didn't expect it to take this long to begin with.

I'm surprised to see that overdrive requires direct mode! Minecrift seemed to have overdrive in its settings menu, but it also requires using the Rift as a primary display for the mod to even work, so maybe that explains it.

Is the new .DLL using display overdrive for reduced black smearing or any other changes with it? Atleast it seemed a bit better.

The new 3D toggle menu is much more clear now. Though I think the "A Rift has been identified on another device"-line might still be confusing for some people. Perhaps "A Rift has been found on your system" would be even more clearer?

Automatically restarting LFS after switching to the Rift would also be a nice little user friendliness gesture, or offering a checkbox for that in the 3D toggle menu.

Also it would be really nice to have that persistent "Disable GUI" setting for maximum VR immersion. Having to peek through the nose gap on the Rift to find my shift+f keys every time I hop in to LFS is no fun!

It's not DK3, as no such device is currently in the pipeline.

CV1 prototype would be more accurate.

PSA: If anyone else is having problems with custom high-res textures not working anymore, they're propably saved using a wrong size.

This was happening with the RB4 textures I had downloaded, tried different .dds settings and enabling/disabling alpha layers but nothing worked, then I noticed the texture was actually 2000x2000 instead of 2048x2048. Re-sized, re-saved and it works again.

Patch itself seems to be working great, no anomalies yet atleast. I still recommend using a 2560x1440 custom resolution for supersampling, with this new update it makes alpha layer textures look even better on the Rift!

Quote from tristancliffe :Or just not listen to it.

That doesn't exactly work with "Shuffle all music". Atleast I don't appreciate having shit that I didn't ask for added to my account.

Quote from Töki (HUN) :Why did they even force it to be installed on every single device? That's lame.

One of many poor decisions from Apple.

Replaced the stock 10mm thick fan with a 25mm thick Noctua today, pretty straightforward job.

It's a good idea to ask TM support for a replacement fan first, as you can use that to make a custom adapter for the Noctua and use the included support plate with dual sided tape for easier and more secure installation.

Made a custom adapter, in case the Noctua ever needs replacing. Unlikely.

Fan installed in a more efficient location.

Tight, but it fits!

also another thing came to my mind just now. i think it would be an awesome feature to be able to sit on the passenger seat in replays. i just discoevered the option to sit a passenger next to you. would be kind of cool to show other people your racereplays as a passenger.

You can already do that by changing the viewpoint of the custom camera manually, but it would be nice if it was in the custom camera position presets.

Was time to retire my 5-year old Buffalo router with something more capable, especially since this baby was discounted.

I seem to have answered no to the poll before, but today I would totally vote yes. Sure there would be more newbies, but atleast it would also bring much needed life to the community.

Steam doesn't have to be the only place to buy the game either, DCS sell their flight sim modules on their website that you can download from there, redeem them to Steam, or simply buy them directly from Steam.

Quote from Scawen :Am I missing something, because I can only see an arrow "go to last post" and that is not the same as going to the first unread post. I still prefer Matrixi's suggestion, as it did work well on the old forum.

EDIT: OK, I see the small "new" text goes to the first unread post. Maybe it's one of those things to get used to...

Yeah, looks like the arrow only takes you to the last post... so my suggestion still stands.

On the old forum I could go right to the last post from the main page, now I have to open a sub-forum and click on the "new" link from there, just an unnecessary extra step.

Edit: Using the forum on mobile devices is a bit more painful now too. If I pinch zoom to see text in posts better, the user menu/log out links go out of reach, and they're too tiny to use without zooming.
