Quote from tristancliffe :But you have to cater for people without surround sound.

Not sure what u mean by that. do mean make sure the game supports stereo sound aswell.
Personally i don't have a problem with going side by side not knowing where the person is, i just restrict my self a little. what i have a problem is with mofo sneaking up on me

on the surround sound topic there alot of sub 100USD 5.1 7.1 surround sound sets. i would imagine people getting upset if it was added

Wonder why certain people feel the need to threaten to leave if a feature is added. seems silly
and why do people do -111111000 its kinda insulting don't you think. a simple -1 would convey the same thing.

I see were the thread started comes from though. Its annoying not being able to see the person in your blind spot. somepeople say use the look bottons but sometimes you can't, if your side by side going into a corner using using the look bottons might be worse.

i think a propper solution to this problem would be some decent surround sound. a person would beable to somewhat guage where someone else is based oppon sound. better than without it.

Quote from rc10racer :BF2 can take the p**s out of any pc when it wants to it's just unbelieveable how much pc resources it takes to run bf2 even me crap pc can handle can it has the lowest quality of cpu's and gfx cards there is (pc specs below near bottom of page)

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=85&page=11

Your PC is kinda out dated though, i would not even attempt to run BF2 with those specs. mainly the (9250). that card is from two generations ago and is the low end model.

Quote from tristancliffe :
I know that the STi we worked on in 1997 (I think it was) that we got to 700hp for Pikes Peak (we didn't do all the work as we're not modern car or Subaru specialists, although we do specialise in the engine that Subaru copied) didn't have any of this computer nonsense.

How old are you if u don't mind me asking, i got the impresion you were 20-22. but it seems as though your older because of the quote from above.

Funny how people say tire physics off. too me LFS uses a value for each Surface(tarmac,Sand,Grass). this Value is used to computate maximum grip. So in my eyes Grass is the same as tarmac but with a lower level of grip.

ive driven on grass many times and thinking back, LFS isnt dead on but its close enough.
Maybe it seems too slippery because of the high contrast

Me personnally if i had 20-25K to spend on a car, i would Get A Ek cvic and overhaul it aftermarket suspension bla bla bla. as for the engine i would get a k24 or k20. And that would eat any SRT

The Rewrite of the drivers is one of the reasons why compatibility is broken M$. It really has nothing to do with DRM is the case of directX.

Blame the Studios not M$ they were the ones that preasured them. No need to worry because am sure couple months after release someone would of cracked it and we will all be watchinig it in VideoLan.

Quote from Jakg :i hate vista and M$ right now, im looking at a new gfx card, and because DX10 is coming out i have to wait because if i buy a card now, even though its fast enough it wont play many more new games, DX9 still has plenty of life in it, there just trying to force people to upgraade to Vista

thats not the reason FOr the DX10 Vista problems of compatibility. They completly Reworked the whole API not because the want to force people to switch but becasue the way Vista handles device Drivers. Remember the Drivers sit between the Hardware and The APi(Direct X). The changes they made Broke compatibility but the advantages far outweight it in my opinion.

GFX Wise i never looked at LFS as pretty game, and theres only a hand full of things you would really need DirectX10 for that directX9 could not do.

i think LFS is a directX9 game. its just it seems the developers don't use any pretty Shaders.

Sidenote does nyone know how the damage modem is implemented, Vertex Shaders?

why does it matter if it "Moves" the Aero parts. i could understand if they had control of the aero part movements but i don't think they do. To me there just trying to hype of the Championship

I think what jak is trying to say is, create a security system that stops you from having the crack, by having LFS check if its cracked when u try to play online(Demo Servers). either way what will happen is people will use two different LFS installations if thats the case. 10 to 1 the next hack that comes out will disable any such feature.

Combating piracy is too hard to spend too much time on it, it would be far easier to convince someone through constant updates, and improving the game. If alot of demo people have a crack and have expericed the game the only thing LFS can truly advertise is its online gameplay.

o wait just realized you were talking about cheating and not cracking the same thing will happen though the next cheat will prob disable the call home feature

i knew the difference i just was throwing terms out cause he didn't seem too know what detonation i was talking about. Are you gerneralizing all tuners from the ones you know in england?
Edit i don't use Pinging sounds retarded to me, i use knocking or detonation.

um no its the fact that i have never hurd anyone say pinking, everyone i know over here in america calls i pinging thats if they don't call knocking or detonation. I searched and see that in europe its more common too say pinking. i accept it. But he goes on saying hes right and everyone else is wrong calling it garage, mag terms. It seems from my perspective, he thinks he superior to everyone and no one knows anything because he works with"race Engines"

Quote from tristancliffe :Holland isn't known for it's car manufacturers

Local garage terminology, or magazine vocabulary might be somewhat different, usually because they don't really know what it is, and misheard the person that told them.

you seem arrogant you know

Are you pronouncing it (pinking) like the color. Sounds so weird to me
lalathegreat

why do you assume i learned what i know from a mag? pinging wasnt a spelling mistake.

"At high rpm it could progress to a sharp ping or tink sound that leads to the other common names of "ping" in the U.S. and "Pink" or "Pinking" in the UK and Europe." We were both right in regard to the name.

mmm so interesting seeing difference in culture, in america Detonation is common in describing knocking. likewise pinking is new to me, don't know the logic of saying pinking instead of pinging

Quote from tristancliffe :Close. Pre-ignition is when the mixture ignites without the help of the spark plug. Detonation is when the mixture ahead of the flame front (perhaps supersonic) meets compression ignition combustion, and the result is massive shock waves, that can literally pluck metal from valves and piston crowns, and lead ultimately to hotspots in the engine.

Pre-ignition is when hotspots in the engine (which may or may not be caused by detonation (or pinking or knocking, however you want to call it) ignites the fuel before the spark plug. This is generally considered back, as not only does it mimic ignition advance (which exaggerates hotspots/detonation etc), it also causes valves to burn out, things to melt, oil to carbonise, and the engine to "run on". This is when even turning off the engine (in a carburetted car) will not stop the engine, and you have to some how let the engine cool before it will stop. Usually reducing the throttle will eventually do this, but not always. It then feels like a stuck wide open throttle, which I can assure you isn't a nice feeling.

You trying to 1up me with your text book definition lol(sarcasm). Regardless i wasnt trying to school him on the topic or i would went more specific. between the differences. i was trying to get him back on the same page because it seemed he didn't know what "Detonation" we were talking..

"Detonate where? The gear box? Rear axle? Up stroke? Down stroke?"

detonation as pinging as in when the mixtures ignites without the help of the spark plug so to speak.

yea your right with race cars overheating, You would have to be a idiot to watch your water temperature get too such high temperatures before you did anything.
I only joined in because someone said when you car overheats nothing comes out the exhaust which isnt entirely true.

Quote :Lala, I thought you said you knew about engines, yet now you claim a) never to have seen a head gasket failure, and b) that burning oil produces black smoke? I think you'll find head gasket failures are surprisingly common - work with cars for a month and you'll see one. Also, oil burning produces blue smoke.

Detonation isn't damage to the piston rings due to overheating either.

I have seen head gasket failures, not one where a mass amount of collant got into the cylinder at one time.
I don't think i said burning oil produces black smoke.
let me elaborate on what i mean by detonation. I meant that if a car was overheating it could start to detonate which could cause piston ring failure. which in turn could cause oil to burn which could then cause blue smoke
