LFS Bay Area gathering

I think we should have some kind of LFS gathering for all the Bay Area or northern California players. If someone could organize some sort of meeting it would be great! Please reply if you live in the Bay Area (or could drive there in reasonable time) and want to have a gathering. Thanks!

EDIT: Mods, please move this to off topic. Thanks!

Ever wonder what other LFS players do away from the game? Use this post to tell a little more about yourself. Please copy and paste mine, but delete the answers and use your own. The only contact you should be making is that of the accidental nature. Conscientiously making contact with another player is quite barbaric and should not be done.
Me being an LFS legend

The word on the street is that I'm some kind of LFS legend in the forums. Is this true?

Edit: Not legend, per se; I just meant by legend that you would remember my good posts

Bye bye traction control?

Does the removal of traction control from F1 2008 mean the removal of traction control in the BF1? That would suck.
Macro grouping
BlackSheep720
S2 licensed
Has this ever happened to you? You're racing in a dedicated race server - you are trying to pass a lapped racer ahead of you - you press the macro for a blue flag announcement, and instead, "PULL OVER - THIS IS THE POLICE!!!" comes up - you realize that you forgot to change your macros from the last time you visited the City Driving servers. Well with my suggested feature, you could group sets of macros together and select a group each time you change from, say, a City Driving server to a Redline Racing server. Whaddya think?
A kind of "smart chat"
BlackSheep720
S2 licensed
Ok, here's my idea. A "smart chat" feature, that if enabled, can put a user's name before the message depending on certain detection features. For instance, if you want to send a blue flag message, the smart chat would automatically place the name of the user closest ahead of you who is a lap behind you.

For example
WITHOUT smart chat - BLUE FLAG! BLUE FLAG! GET OUT OF THE WAY!
WITH smart chat - [username] - BLUE FLAG! BLUE FLAG! GET OUT OF THE WAY!

This can also be used for some other chat messages. For instance, if someone wrecks you and you type "wtf???" there could be numerous players on the track who thought it was them. With smart chat, the name of the player you made contact with would be automatically added to the message to clarify who the "wtf???" is directed at.

For example
WITHOUT smart chat - wtf???
WITH smart chat - [username] - wtf???

Hopefully you get my drift. I think this would be a pretty cool feature and would remove the need for tediously moving the mouse around while you continue to race.

How noobs can avoid angering seasoned players
BlackSheep720
S2 licensed
Hello Noobs! (That's not meant in a bad way)

In my days as a noob, I admit that I angered some people. Now as more of a seasoned player than a noob, it's the noobs that are angering me; now, with the popularity of LFS rising, swarms of noobs are infecting the servers, and the tension between seasoned and new S2 users is increasing exponentially. Although I may not be the best racer, I've picked up on a few key things that really seem to set off the seasoned players (they set me off, too). Noobs, pay close attention; it could mean the difference between being accepted and being rejected. I will continue to add to the list should a new item come up. Note that the items are in no particular order; they are not organized according to severity.

1. Constantly asking for a setup during a race -- This is severely annoying. Just don't do it. And if you do ask for a setup, do it politely (and after the race).

2. Asking for extraneous add-ons in the forum (i.e dedicated drift tracks, body kits)
-- All the seasoned veterans are tired of this. LFS is for pure racing, and we don't wanna change that.

3. Not saying sorry after wrecking the field at T1; rather, you shift-s and continue like nothing happened -- It surprises me what little class some racers have. If you wreck the field, how about lay out for the rest of the race to show you're sorry?

4. Deciding to go "off roading" if you get a blue flag -- This is a minor annoyance in most cases; however, I may berate you if you end up sliding, out of control, back on to the track and wreck the person who was trying to pass you.

5. At the demo users - Treating the demo like it's a full game, makin' teams (clans too lol), demanding features, etc. -- You got the game for free, OK? Be thankful that the devs decided to increase your server limits. Feel free to try out the game but don't expect to get S2 treatment.

Well, that's all I can think of for now. Oh yeah, one last thing: Don't turn this into a flame war. Please keep it calm.

Manual override while in automatic transmission
BlackSheep720
S2 licensed
OK, I admit: I use automatic transmission for racing. But sometimes at sharp corners or other places, the auto transmission has trouble calculating the proper gear to take (I'm taking hairpins in 3rd gear ). Is there some kind of manual override to switch from auto to manual transmission? I'm not talking about the one where you shift gears, and it shifts back if revs are too high or low, I'm taking about switching to full manual. Any help?

As has been stated in the numerous threads, it'll run alright in boot camp. Obviously, it can't run on Apple 10.4 itself.
Blue flags - are we too easy-going?
BlackSheep720
S2 licensed
I noticed that in F1 racing a lapped racer has to actually pull over to let the lapping racer by. But in LFS, people just keep trundling along, making it hard to pass if you're going just the slightest bit faster (common in open wheel racing). I've taken up the act of pulling over for those who are lapping me; I feel good when I do this, and the action often garners a ":-)" "thanks," or likewise. Any thoughts on making pulling over the rule?

It is easily possible with a video editing software. If you're just looking to analyze your performance though, I'd recommend downloading one of the many replay analyzers available.

What, precisely, is the difference between 16 and 32 bit color? I can't tell the difference between the two!
