Its almost that time of year. At least in the past the devs would throw us a bone around Christmas and everyone would be happy. Nothing but coals in everyone's socks again this year. Time to move on.

I decided to check the LFS web page for an update and there was nothing new so I came to the forums and found this post. When I used to actively post in this forum a while back, the devs made a habit of at least releasing something at Christmas and then take a year off and the following Christmas would show something new if we were lucky. Looks like everyone is getting coal this year :-)

I'm sorry to say this but these have to be the laziest developers ever. I have this feeling that they're frustrated about not making a whole lot of money so they've given up on the community or at least taking their sweet time. Maybe they like that model but the community suffers if they expect any more than that. Its their right to be lazy and do what they want but you would think that they would throw everyone a bone once in a while - especially around the holidays. This is just my opinion. They dont seem to care about this community and I think its best if people just enjoy LFS for what it is and go on with their lives. Check the forums every Christmas like I do and if there's nothing new then try again in another year.

See you all next year.

Quote from tristancliffe :Not this again. Do we have to have an ignorant moaner start a thread every day?

The patch is on its way. It will arrive when it is finished. The website will then be updated.

On the contrary... I'm not moaning. I just think its unprofessional to leave the main site like that. I've moved on from LFS until the new patch is ready but instead of having to come to the forums to see what's going on, I would rather check the main page on occasion which is apparently not getting any love.
Just dropping by...I see nothing's new

How come the main LFS site appears to not have been updated for a long time? Lots of people don't visit this forum so you would think that the main LFS page would have something other than, "We are sorry to have to announce that the VW Scirocco will not be released this week as planned. Unfortunately we are unable to continue working into the following week, and it has turned out impossible to reach the required standard in the time available." Unless the devs are planning on releasing it each week but dont :-)
Devs still on X-mas break?

LFS website doesn't appear to have been updated since December. I've checked it a few times since x-mas and its still the same. And I see no new VW for everyone to drive, huh?

Merry Christmas :-)

Quote from Shotglass :are you sure you dont use a driver global setting and or lfs driver profile that forces vsync off?

No, I checked at it was set to application. If I force it to on, the FPS is a lot lower but still not locked to anything. If I limit FPS within the game itself, the image tears.

Not sure if this is a new bug or not because I recall having this issue before. No matter what I do, I cannot get the vsync to turn on. I'm running nvidia at 2560x1600. Is there a fix for this?

I wish more tracks were bumpy. One thing that I wish LFS has that most other sims have are more feel from the road. The feel I get from the car thru force-feedback is probably the best I've ever felt but I really like the way the Forumula car feels in Race07 believe it or not. I think that car in Race has the best FF/physics in an ISI game.

Is it me or does the first post not explain what LFS relax does? What's this program for and what does it do?

Quote from Bob Smith :I'm trying to fix this bug atm but I can't seem to reproduce it (although I can using the method I described). Could you (or someone else who can reproduce this) explain the exact steps on how to do it?

For now I've added the filename about to be overwritten in the message box that pops up. Perhaps that on its own will be enough to people over-writing the wrong setup?

Actually, I never use the "save" option, always save-as. Anyway, these are the steps:

Load up a vehicle - in my case UF1. Open an existing setup from LFS setup dir. Make some changes to setup. Click on save-as and when the explorer window pops up, the filename will already be there. If you just click ok, the file will not be over-written nor will it prompt you to ok the over-write. If I follow these steps and load that setup in LFS the setup would be the same as it was before and no new setup changes would have been applied.

Seems like the devs only release updates to LFS once a year around xmas time. Gonna be a while. They take the rest of the year off I guess. AI was on the list last year but they didn't get around to it. It would have been nice for them to at least attempt some AI improvements in the off season but I guess we'll have to wait til Christmas again for something new.

I think i found a bug. Whenever you attempt to overwrite an existing setup via the save-as dialog, you have to double-click the file you want to overwrite or select it and hit ok. Sounds simple enough but if you are playing with the same file, the GUI remembers the setup that you have loaded and it will present its filename already in the "filename" dropdown in the explorer window. Simply clicking OK will not save the file. This was causing me some grief until I figured out what was happening.

Quote from Benja1972 :Resolved the problem. I put OutSim Port 10001 in LFS cfg.txt same as in camlevel_cfg.txt

I'm having the same problem. My cfg file already has 10001 as Outsim Port. Not sure what the real fix is supposed to be. Only happens during multiplayer.

Out of curiousity, what do you guys set the ingame g-force settings to? Mine are pretty low so I bumped them up a bit so I could notice the effect. It's still hard for me to notice. I think its running but who knows.

I don't know what's more important to me... despising those iRacing bastards or the love of sim racing. I have a feeling that if the product is good then I'm going to have to subscribe. If it tops everything else out there then I have no choice but to play the best sim on the market. I feel that I would be doing myself a disservice if I didn't. I mean I'm not going to sit around playing LFS if iRacing is 10 times better. Physics are going to be the main driver for me. We can already see that the graphics are no better than rFactor. This doesn't mean that I would feel good about giving them my money. After all, I would be getting something in return so its not like it's a donation or something. It better be good or else they can go screw themselves.

If you ask me there are too many "kids" not taking this sim seriously and taking the physics that it has for granted. I vote for a stricter damage model. Would be nice to have the option to disable it for those that totally despise it at the server level.

There is no way that LFS got deleted when you removed steam. Did you uninstall it or just go deleting folders? I've seen some weird things where you have too many setup.exe
s in your temp folder that your unzip or unrar program uses and sometimes the wrong setup or uninstall.exe can launch.

LAG will do that too. I was racing a different game earlier and the server was in Argentina. We were doing a rolling start around the track. We were going no more than 40 MPH and half the field didn't make it around the track to even start the race, including me since I kept getting rear-ended.

Quote from Burnzoire :I'd wager it's not a video setting causing the problem. If you're getting 60FPS but it's not fluid, it sounds very much like another process is causing issues. For example, Nero Scout will cause all kinds of problems for games like LFS. I don't know why LFS is so vulnerable to this, but it certainly is and I have had a lot of trouble in the past from invasive processes such as this. So I reccommend that you have a good look at what processes you have running and google them all.

It's not that. I have a quad core processor and the game is stable. No stuttering at all. It's just when compared to other simulations like GTR2 or rFactor, their 60FPS look a lot more fluid than LFS for some reason. Hard to explain. Not really a technical issue. Plus, if other processes were doing something on my PC, that would affect the frame rate. My FPS is at 59-60 FPS solid when I have vsync on.

Also, I tried turning vsycn off and Full Screen Vertical Sync does nothing in game. Shouldn't that force my FPS to a certain number? If I have that on and limit FPS to off, what would be the expectation from turning on FSVS?

Quote from wien :Unless you have a CRT monitor capable of 100Hz refresh rates, that won't do anything. Your screen will probably redraw at 60Hz anyway, negating any benefit from upping the framerate (It may get a little bit smoother, but the fundamental problem is still here).

Also, the cars vibrating wouldn't have any impact on the smoothness of the TV-camera which you said also was jerky.

Duh, you're right. Not sure what I was thinking. Anyway, I tried locking the frames to 100 and they never really lock at 100. Always something like 92FPS. I know my machine can do 100 no problem becuase with VSYNC off its in the 200's.

What do these options do in the game:

Full Screen Vertical Sync ?
Minimum sleep?

When I flip on Full Screen VS, it does't really do anything. If I have vsync off in control panel and turn this on in game, the FPS stay the same. Is this supposed to be vsync in the game?

What about minimum sleep? Does this setting have anything to do with the display?

Quote from DragonCommando :Things can seem jerky because of the way the car acts. If you have the 1g forces up to around .050m it can seem as if you are getting a jerky motion from the FPS, but it's actually the car vibrating.

I think you're on to something here. I thought about this being a possibility before. Lots of things fool my eyes into thinking that the animations aren't as smooth like lack of AA and AF and now that you mention it the forces in the cockpit. Still, I think it might be something bigger than this. Thanks to the folks that suggested the 100Mhz thing. I'll try locking my frames at 100 FPS and try to ignore the tearing to see if thats it.

In LFS, check the garage for the different cars that you can drive. It tells you how much lock they have. Set the profilers to that much and you're done.

Of course, different cars have different lock. Most are either 720 or 540 I believe. What I did was copy the LFS exe and call it 720.exe and have logitech profiler point to that when I want to use cars that have 720 degrees of lock. I set the amount of rotation in each profile to match. I also created a profile for use with cars that use 540 degrees of lock and call it something like LFS_540.exe to run cars with less lock. I think LFS has an easier way of coping with different levels of rotation in game but I prefer to do it this way.

Are you running Vista? If so, make sure you have the very latest profiler version. I dont run Vista anymore cuz it sucks but when I did, it totally disregarded what I had set in the logitech profiler and only used the settings from the control panel. I have my profiler set up differently for different games. Not sure why people say not to use it.

Is there a way to make all the default skins hi res and and not download any skins while you're online and see other racers use the high res skins you have locally on your HD?
