Xcite C. Winkler drives it home to win the MRT Cup 2012/13!

The OWRL MRT Cup 2012/13 has been taken by Xcite C. Winkler. With 6 podium finishes, C.Winkler took the cup using both consistency and speed in a season that remained close until the final round. The Xcite driver took the lead in the second event, after early leader SRT Flip retired from the main race at Aston South after an spectacular crash. Flip had taken an impressive win in the main race at South City Town, starting from 7th on the grid to take the victory with more than 7 seconds to spare after 24 laps in the nimble MRT5.

Going into the final round, contested at Fern Bay Classic, two drivers were on the tail of C.Winkler in the standings. Iron|J.Vähäkuopus was only 11 points behind after his main race victory at round two, whilst CG R.Costa followed closely in third place. The sprint race in FE Classic was used for redemption by SRT Flip. It did no do much for the standings. R.Costa however was not letting his chance for the overall victory go without a fight in the main race. He quickly set off to take the lead and kept a solid gap for the rest of the field. Was it enough to overtake C.Winkler in the standings? No, all the German had to do was to finish on the podium and he did exactly that.

Further joy for Xcite Racing as C.Winkler and K.Egloff grabbed the team championship. With that, the champions of this season are exactly the same as the edition 2 years ago. Congratulations to Xcite C. Winkler and the Xcite team for taking the Cup once more!

What starts right after Christmas and promises action packed events right into the new year? Open Wheel Racing League's MRT Cup of course! Beginning 27 december, the annual tradition in the Open Wheel Racing Leagues starts at South City Town using a layout adding a chicane in the final corner. From then one it is on to the open layouts. The second round 29 december takes the drivers to the the short Aston South track before the season finishes the first saturday in 2013 on Fern Bay Classic, incorporating the mini oval in the FE Green layout. The layouts used are available from our downloads sections.

The OWRL started in 2004 as a MRT only league. Since S2 it has expanded to use all formula cars available in LFS, but the end of year competition remains reserved for the MRT5. Last season the MRT Cup was won by RAPTOR Paddi.

1stBFA takes team championship by a huge margin at Blackwood GP

The dust has settled on the final championship standings. After the final FO8 round at Blackwood GP, already crowned champion GenR Feuerdrache finishes the season 96 points ahead of the second placed TEM/Y.Laprevotte, who managed to do just enough to stay ahead or rsg077 and1stBFA Wings. The three drivers finished ultra close in the standings, just 7 points separating fourth from second. Not so small margins in the team standings. 1stBFA took the team title by extending their lead to 346 points over GenR, with TEM wrapping up third place.

Wings took pole but drew the short end of the stick in the opening laps of the sprint race, eventually finishing just off the podium. rsg077 converted his second place into a first position and never looked back to take his second win of the season. He was joined on the podium by Y.Laprevotte and spdoFiredUp. Wings turned out to get better results from not starting on pole as his early pit stop strategy in the main race gave him plenty of clear track. Wings won the main race six seconds ahead of rsg077. With a third position Y.Laprevotte did what he needed to do to keep second place in the standings, despite dropping to back of the grid in a first corner incident.

With S2 Season 21 finished the OWRL admins have started planning the next MRT Cup. The first race will be on 27 December. More details will be announced soon.

Feuerdrache awarded both wins and title in Aston Grand North

GenR Feuerdrache claimed the OWRL S2 Season 21 title and he did so in style. Feurdrache scored his third perfect event this season after taking pole, winning the sprint race and also being awarded the main race victory, despite crossing the line behind rgs077. rgs077 was demoted to third by the marshals after he turned out to have not changed the tyres under his Formula V8 at the mandatory pit stop.

Even if Feuerdrache misses the last round, the points for his worst event makes sure he can not be overtaken. The battle in the drivers championship at Blackwood GP is for second. TEM Y.Laprevotte kept his position but rgs077 is climbing the standings fast and even after the penalty, he is only 12 points away. 1stBFA drivers Wings and Jati are also within striking distance. They will also keep an eye on their team result as in the team championship, GenR has a mathematical chance to overhaul 1stBFA in the final event of the season.

J.Peace and Feuerdrache share the spoils at Kyoto North

v\J.Peace earned the pole position in the sprint race and used it to full advantage, keeping the horde away at the start and then building a comfortable gap. GenR.Feuerdrache at first looked like losing a couple of position in the first lap before carving his way past other cars, including an outside pass on rgs077, to get to second position. The only further change for a podium position was the overtake by v\Matiass on rgs077 for third. In the main race an incident in the first corner involved the top two, dropping both J.Peace and Feuerdrache down the field. Up front spdoFiredUp took the lead ahead of TEM|Y.Laprevotte. Fortunes reversed however in the second half of the race. First Y,Laprevotte started losing positions with suspension damage, then FiredUp had to concede the lead. To who? The charging Feuerdrache of course! The German needed 27 laps to get from 11th back to the front. Once he got there, LLM TCLF was the only one able to stay close and finished directly behind the now 5-times race winner this season. Third went to 1stBFA Jati.

In the standings, including the worst result dropped rule, Feuerdrache has a 69 point advantage over Y.Laprevotte, who is closely followed by Steelbeen, Jati, Wings, bLb and rgs077. Any of these followers are still within a chance of the championship if they can gain significant ground on Feuerdrache starting at the next round, Aston Grand North.

Feuerdrache extends championship lead with double victory

GenR Feuerdrache has marked himself as the clear favorite to win the S2 Season 21 title by scoring his third and fourth win of the season at Westhill International rev. In the Formula XR, the German driver took pole and only really had to overcome resistance in the main race.

In the sprint race, the main battles happened to be around [SR] bLb. After qualifying in second, bLb kept his position but loss of momentum halfway through the lap eventually allowed both M™ Steelbeen and 1stBFA Jati to pass him. After that, the Sonicrealms driver found himself in a long battle with OWRL F1 champion rgs077, eventually getting ahead after a small mistake by rgs077. No chance to get back on the podium though, as this was filled by Feuerdrache, Steelbeen and Jati.

Finishing off the podium, rgs077 and [SR] bLb took advantage of the top 8 reversed grid start to quickly get to the front in the 28 lap main race. Their battle from the sprint race then continued. GenR Feuerdrache was helped by this after he needed a couple more laps to get through the field, doing so in great racing. Feuerdrache may have need some time to get to the leaders, once he was there on lap 8, he disposed of both drivers in two laps time and never looked back to take another perfect score. Close racing continued for the other podium positions in the final 5 laps of the race. Steelbeen and Jati both were able to slipstream past bLb giving us the same podium in the sprint and main race.

The next round is the next open layout event of this season, this time bringing Formula XR to Kyoto North. You can sign up for the event by registering on www.owrl.de and then say you take part for the upcoming event. Don't forget to set a time on our training server for this event.

v\Maddee, rgs077 share race wins at Fern Bay Gold

With S2 Season 21 getting to the second round, FE Gold hosted the final Formula BMW race before the season moves on to other cars. In qualifying, v\J.Peace positioned himself as favorite for the event by taking pole position as the only driver dropping below the 1:19 mark. J.Peace would wind up on the podium with two second places, but that he did not win had all to do with two significant events in the sprint race.

The first one was the start. Whilst J.Peace defended the inside line, his teammate v\Maddee could take more speed on the outside line in turn 1 helping Maddee to get the lead by the time they reached the chicane. The top 3, with GenR Feuerdrache in third, never changed order despite finishing within a half second after 11 laps. The second significant event happened on lap 2 and eventually decided the main race. rgs077 spun after slight contact with Y.Laprevotte, also involving the unlucky Steelbeen. rgs077dropped to the back of the field. He was out of contention for a podium in the sprint race, but he fought back and got up to eight place by overtaking Blacky on the final lap. This meant pole for the main race. Without conceding the lead at any moment, the Russian drove to victory in the main race. The same drivers filled the spots for second and third as in the sprint race, with J.Peace getting a double second place and Feuerdrache, who retains the championship lead, leaving Fern Bay with another third place trophy.

Round 1 - GenR Feuerdrache takes maximum points from Aston Classic

The opening round of S2 Season 21 saw a familiar name occupying victory lane. GenR Feuerdrache qualified on pole by being the only driver beating the 1:33 mark and followed up on that by leading the sprint race from start to finish. In the main race, the German driver had to tackle the top 8 reversed grid. Quickly, Feuerdrache moved through the field and then drove away to stamp his mark on the first event of the new season. In both races he was accompanied by TEM/Y.Laprevotte on the podium, who took second in both races. 1stBFA Wings drove an amazing race in the sprint race to finish on the final spot of the podium from his 10th qualifying spot. In the main race, Steelbeen and SRT Tobi swapped third position on multiple occasions, with the SRT-driver fiinally taking the spot.

Wisniewski wins race, Sabrekov wins championship in South City

Anton Sabrekov has been crowned champion of the OWRL F1 Series 2012 at the penultimate round. Sabrekov got a clear lead after winning two races during the season and with his fourth podium finish of the season at round 7, the Russian driver did more than enough to secure the title.

In the race, no one was a match for Adam Wisniewski. Towards the end of the second lap, Wisniewski got a better drive than pole sitter Gianluca Rotello, moved to the outside and took the lead well before the next corner. A free track was all the Polish driver needed to drive away from the rest of the field, never looking in danger of giving away the lead. Gianluca Rotello remained his nearest rival until shortly after his pitstop, after an unlucky connection issue meant the end of the race for the Playerzone driver.

Behind Wisniewski the fight for second place unfolded in a decisive battle for the championship. Right after the first series of pit stops, points leader Anton Sabrekov came out alongside Stuart Newnham. Minor contact at the exit of the first corner gave Quentin Benoît the chance to overtake them both. Benoît was in the position he wanted to be to take the race for the championship towards the final round. Sabrekov had other plans though and during the second stint he waited for his chance to get him back. He tried his move on lap 41 but a determined Benoît came back. Max Norris, who had closed in to make it a four way battle, got the worst of it and was send into the wall, costing him a lot of time with repairs.

Sabrekov did not had to wait long for his second chance to get by Benoît, using the slipstream to take him on lap 42. Once more this didn't happen without contact and Benoît ended up in a half spin. During the final pitstop, the race went from bad to worse for the Frenchman, getting two stop & go's in a row entering the pits before finally giving in . With that, all Anton Sabrekov had to do was finish the race. It did not matter that Stuart Newnham got by for second place. Sabrekov kept his cool and wrapped up the championship with another solid podium finish.

With the driver championship already sure to go to Russia, the final round at Kyoto Ring GP Long will be the decider for the team championship. Redline Racing has the upper hand over Playerzone A and will look to defend their lead during the final 305 KM of the season.

To take part in the final round, drivers will need to register on www.owrl.de and can then register for the event under 'upcoming events'.

F1 June races on Saturday, others on Sunday

If you marked your calendar for the upcoming OWRL F1 races you might need to change some of the dates. Due to some clashes in the upcoming events with LFSCART, race day has been moved to Sunday. The first two races will remain on Saturday evening. The calendar in the opening post has been adjusted. All events start at 19:30 CEST (17:30 UTC).

Don't forget to submit your team for OWRL F1 before Wednesday 13 June, 19:00 CEST to be included in the first startnumber list. It is not mandatory to be in a team for this years series. All drivers will need to register for the events they take part in under "upcoming events".

OWRL F1 2012 set to get going this month

The Open Wheel Racing League continues its annual F1 series with an eight round championship starting this month! From 16 June onwards drivers and teams will vie for the title won last year by Pete Hopkins and Sonicrealms Racing Team B. The calendar has seen some shuffles after the Jamaican authorities failed to make the necessary upgrades to the Fern Bay circuit. Instead, a second street race has been added with the South City Chicane Route for a full 100 laps.

Several changes have been made to the rules, adopting an approach which OWRL competitors will know from the popular S2 Series. OWRL F1 will no longer be limited to 26 drivers. As many servers will be available as needed with drivers being assigned to the servers depending on their personal best or hotlap time. Drivers, who will need to use their real name, no longer need to be with an team to take part. The team championship still is only for teams that applied and remains limited to two drivers per race.

Saturday returns as race day with race events starting at 19:30 CEST. The two qualifying sessions remain in place, with the second only for the top 10 drivers with parc fermé rules. Each event has a single race of Grand Prix length. The series no longer contains a summer break but added to the rule book is the 'worst result dropped'-rule so drivers who are forced to miss an event still can score maximum points.

Applications
Drivers that want to take part need to signup for each individual race under upcoming events. For the team championship application is needed. Teams consisting of at least two drivers can apply via our forum or mail to owrl.league@gmail.com with the exact team name, driver names and LFS world names. Applications that are received before an event starts will be accounted for, from that event onwards. Teams can change drivers between each race, but for one team only two drivers can race per event. Before round one there is a pre-registration for the teams that ends on Wednesday 13 June, 19:00 CEST on which the lower starting numbers will be handed out.

Round 2: CoRe S.Anttonen takes championship lead in South City

A great day for the CoRe team in South City. As the dust settled from the races on South City Long rev, CoRe T.Lähteenmäki had won the main race and CoRe S.Anttonen took the lead in the drivers championship and furthermore the team gathered enough points to take the lead in the team standings. It did not took that rosy after just the sprint race. GenR.Klaidas first took an important pole in the qualifying session and then kept the lead despite pressure from S.Anttonen and teammate Joonas at the start. Even with S.Anttonen staying within a second almost the whole race, Klaidas kept the lead unchallenged and took victory the his first chance he got this season.

After a decent podium finish in the sprint race for one CoRe driver, the day turned from good to great during the main race. T.Lähteenmäki immediately took the lead from P2 at the start of the main race and never looked back. S.Anttonen got spun out on lap 1 but then drove an excellent recovery to fifth, unsurprisingly setting the fastest lap of the race and taking the championship lead in the process. Meanwhile on the second server, the sprint race was decided with another interteam battle by SRT drivers Tobi and Flip, with this time Tobi taking the win. It was an exciting finish to the race after AA™|Frozeni lead up to lap 8 before losing it as he struggle with hot tyres, then just finishing ahead of pod.Germanpio for the final podium position. The main race was decided much earlier in the race as Bandes took P1 after only a couple of laps and took a massive victory in FOX terms: over 10 seconds.

Round 1: J.Lehikoinen takes maximum points from Kyoto National

The opening round of S2 Season 20 saw a familiar name occupying victory lane. 3id J. Lehikoinen started the defense of his title strong. After qualifying on pole J. Lehikoinen continued to lead the full sprint race. [SR] Joku managed to follow him for the first half of the race before the gap grew in the second part. Winning the sprint race means a 8th place starting position for the main race. When the Finnish driver is in form, he quickly moves through the field to the front and at Kyoto, J. Lehikoinen was in form. By the end of lap 1 he was in 4th and early in lap 3 the reigning champion had the lead, winning the race well ahead of CoRe S.Anttonen and SR bLb.

The only hope J. Lehikoinen gave his opponents was when he showed that he is human after all, after he spun out on the curbs of the first chicane. Even with that moment, the gap to P2 was much bigger on server 1 than on server 2. [SR] eiwer let his opponents come within one second in the final laps of the sprint race but the held on to take his debut OWRL victory. In the main race, the SRT in-team battle between Flip and Tobi went in favor of Flip.

Open Wheel Racing League ignites S2 Season 20

Get in your Formula XR and Formula V8, because the Open Wheel Racing League is set to bring you more open wheel action with its next series, S2 Season 20! Starting on 3 March, drivers will compete in six rounds with the first three using the FOX, and the final three the FO8. The overall title goes to the driver who is best in both parts - but includes a worst race dropped rule so drivers who miss an event are not directly out of the race. Teams can compete for points over the full six events. This season starts and ends at well knowns tracks, but the half way point of the season is marked by two open layouts.

Race weekends
All races are on saturday evenings in a bi-weekly schedule. The events start with a 15 minute qualifying session at 20:00 CET. This is followed by a sprint and main race. For the main race the starting grid is the result of the sprint race with the top 8 reversed. All FO8 events have a mandatory pitstop.

Paddi and 6th take championship lead

RAPTOR | Paddi missed out on pole in qualifying, but that was the only miss in an almost flawless event for the German. In both races the RAPTOR driver quickly took the lead and despite not getting a big margin, he took victory in both races unchallenged. With his performance it is no surprise that he changes his one points deficit to Xcite C.Winkler into a 19 point championship lead. C. Winkler limited the damage with a second place in the main race and will look for a way to get the lead back in the final round at Kyoto North. SRT Flip and just.papax also still are in contention in 3rd and 4th in the standings.

For the battle in the team championship, 6th send in an armada of cars that helped them score points with the two best finishers in both races. PLZ failed to do so in the sprint race, costing them the lead in the team standings. However, with only one point between 6th and PLZ, and PLZ consistently showing a better speed, 6th will need to do more than just send as many cars as possible to get the team trophy in the final round of the season.

Past MRT Cup winners dominate at Aston

RAPTOR | Paddi and Xcite C. Winkler have both emerged as winners from the opening round of the MRT Cup 2011/12. At Aston Cup, an open layout that combines much of Club with Cadet, Paddi qualified on pole and took the checkered flag unchallenged in the sprint race. C. Winkler was the clear winner of the main race after a lap 1 incident dropped back some of the favorites, including Paddi and Feuerdrache. Paddi did fought back to second place. After one race in the championship C. Winkler leads the way just one point ahead of Paddi. Both have won the Cup before, C. Winkler being the reigning champion and Paddi taking the title in the 2008/09 edition, and it looks like they will be fighting for who gets his second cup victory first.

Anyone who wants to challenge those for their victory will need to step up at Fern Bay Cadet. You can register for the next round at the upcoming event until 17:00 CET on race day. Don't forget to also set a time on our training server.
