odd, thought speed trap is pretty standard racing lingo. Yeah, its just a line on the track where everyone's speed is measured..usually at the fastest part of the track..

I'll check out Vcom.

Thanks!
Suggestion: Allow Admins to Set Speed Traps

For fun it would be cool to allow server admins to setup speedtraps. It would make a nice addition to race reports.

Its not really a question of whether we believe LFS is worth it, we are already commited to LFS. I'm sure we'd all pay 60 for it. But to grow the LFS community $60 may price the game out of many gamer's consideration. 2 sold at 45 is more $$ than 1 sold at 60. I'm sure Scawen and company will choose their price with the big picture in mind. If thats $60 so be it. I'm in either way

What they should do is get rid of the requirement to have S1 to get S3. Otherwise they run the risk of not getting US sales since the game will be 36 pounds which is approching $60 which is too much for many causual racers. Keeping it around 45 US should be the target, if not less. Note this is just a US perspecitive...

Heh, I'm really digging this larger wheel and the increased rotation..I'm at 720 right now (for closed wheel cars).

Yup, I have a TrackIR2 so no need for buttons. Here's a pic of my deluxe wheel adapter installed:

Dont let the Act Labs box confuse you, I need to have that so my shifter works.

Time to lift my monitor with my deluxe monitor stand, aka a dictionary.

Heh. I just mounted my Sparco Monza (its a big 350mm) with some electrical tape. It works great. Who needs buttons anyway?

Quote from Blowtus :all of that would be fine, if the dfp wheel was as suited to huge swinging arm steering wheel movements as a 'normal' steering wheel. I can go lock to lock on my rx7, and correct from this state, far easier than on my dfp... maybe my hands are too big or something, but I just get lost with where the wheel is at.

So I got my DFP, the rotation is nice although I do agree with Blowtus here that the wheel feels small. Soooo..my next project will be to mount my spare Sparco wheel somehow. I'm slightly conscerned about the weight on the FF motor...

Anyone have any info on projects where a normal wheel was mounted on a gaming wheel?

Hehe, yeah I have the RS model of the shifter which means I need to have my wheel connected to use the shifter. As long as a game accepts 3 different controllers then I can use my AL performance pedals, shifter (connected through the Force RS cable) and a DFP together.

For me, the increased rotation would really add to the realism of my sims.

Time to order from Amazon.com . PS..Hush Hush..dont tell my wife!
Is the increased steering rotation of DPF or Momo worth a new wheel?

Hi guys,

I have an Act Labs Force RS setup with the performance pedals (with clutch) and the RS shifter. One thing that I always felt the wheel lacked was a realistic rotation but back in 2000 when I bought it such wheels did not exist.

Now I see the DFP and Momo wheels are very popular and I'm thinking maybe its time to jump ship. The thing is my Act Labs setup works great and I really like the feel of it, IMO Act Labs made an awesome, hefty, wheel with the Force RS.

So in your opinion is the enhanced rotation worth it? :lovies3d: I should add that Im a huge rally fan game and the 270 rotation of the Act Labs doesnt simulate the low level FWD cars that I like to drive very well.

Quote from B2B@300 :Do a search for DIY projectors, there is details of how to make very good quality projector out of an overhead projector and LCD panel. Think there is even a topic on our forums here or RSC.

Heh, those DYI projectors are "very good"? From what I've seen its usually an internet scam. =)

I have an Infocus 4805 projector that I use for TV/Movies/PS2. I've also connected my computer to it as well, but the 4805 has a max resolution of 1024x768 and LFS doesn't look so hot on it. One thing about this Matrox device is the fact that it the horizontal resolution is so high thus allowing you to really get that peripheral vision.

Heh. I bought this game 2 months ago knowing full well this is an alpha. I don't know what these peeps are complaining about. This is the best online racing game I have ever played..and its only an alpha.

Just to add, I started playing LFS after quiting the Star Wars Galaxies MMO and its funny how I left one community with whiners and joined another. I guess its the nature of the beast.

Quote from Scawen :According to Kid's post here : http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=81213#post81213

3072x768@75Hz looks like the one to use.

The other modes seem to say they are at 60 Hz! But 60 Hz is like a terrible flicker you don't want for anything! [EDIT : Shotglass corrected me below - 60 Hz is the correct refresh rate for LCD screens] Hopefully 75 Hz will be ok [EDIT : For CRT monitors] and from my experience, 768 is enough for LFS in the vertical resolution.

I must have terrible eyes because I cant seem to have a problem with 60hz. On games that I want to cap the framerate at 60 fps, I cap the refresh rate at 60hz. It must be me illepall

sounds cool but then I'd need a graphics card that can do 60fps at 3840x1024 (and 1024 is kinda low)

Regarding full course yellow's, they are unneccessary as debris and such is instantly removed (as opposed to IRL). Other than for the immersion factor I'm opposed to any full course flags.

The yellow flags Im talking about would be sector flags. When the yellow flag goes up in a sector there is no passing until you enter the next sector with a green flag (or the same sector with the yellow flag being changed from yellow to green). I like the GPL approach with flags where you actually see the marshall and the flags. Again, I understand that is a low development priority though.

Lastly, I am aganst any form of "taking control of the car" to enforce flag rules. You can enforce the yellow flag rule by requiring the violating driver to give up the spot with the reprocussion of not doing so within a certain amount of time (or track distance) a stop and go penalty. There would have to be some code to make sure that the driver who was passed hasn't crashed (or stopped on the track) which would make it impossible for the driver who made the yellow flag pass to be overtaken. In any case, it does seem like a coding job .

Oh, and blue flags go off wayyyy to soon. Often the lead lap driver is barely visibile in my mirror (with decent LODs) and the flag is up. Well, I'm not lapped that often =P
No passing under yellow flags?

I'm sure this is something thats way under the radar but given the number of yellow flags you will see during an (online) race, it would be nice to prohibit passing under a yellow flag.

Enforcement would be tricky, intuitively it could be enforced by requiring the offending driver to give up the position in a certain amount of time or track distance. Not sure though but it would be nice.

Hi guys,

I'd like to get involved with the NAL and registered for the forum however, I have yet to get approved for access. Is there anything else I should do to get access?

Thanks!

heh, I'm still using my Act Labs Force RS with first gen shifter and performance pedals. The Act Labs wheel is 6 years old and still going strong.

Pushing and shoving is something I take major exception to. Its a good way to put someone into the wall and it does happen IRL.

In LFS it just means you are going to spin someone out. A little tap becomes a huge tap when lag enters the picture.

Very cool read. I especially liked the section on corner rights. This is something that most new racers should read twice .
