Wisniewski 2010 Champion / Cattell wins eventful final of the season

Prior to the last round many positions were still undecided in the final standings, including both titles and also the third position of both championships. Traditionally the last race was held on the GP course of the Kyoto Ring, however the chicane where the drivers leave the oval has been changed to a narrow turn to add another overtaking possibility, which had been used by drivers multiple times.

Before the race started the qualifying sessions were held, where a reactivated OWRL veteran named Dave Southword took pole-position with a gap of more than six tenths of a second to Simon Cattell and 1.3 seconds to Michael Booth, the creator of the layout and like Cattell a driver for the team Meh Racing, that led to an early pit stop. The fourth starting position went to Isaac Price of the second Sonicrealms Racing team, newcomer Abdoulaye Diop and Sebastian Hutchinson, who joined the server prior to the race, started from the pits.

To the ones who are already missing some well-known names: With Wisniewski, Benoît, Wójcik and Raymond the top four of the Drivers’ Championship didn’t take part in this race, which results in the fact that Adam Wisniewski from Spdo Racing successfully defended his title. In the Teams’ Championship Redline Racing won the title in front of Spdo Racing. Although some speculations were made regarding the upcoming race, the spectators were watching an exciting race.

With the long way up to the first turn a good start was the key to improve his position. Cattell had a great start just like Price and both went past Southword respectively Booth until turn one. While Dominik Engel was too fast going into turn one and driving over the grass, Matt Maslen and Oscar Hardwick got into contact during the braking zone. This led to a spin of Maslen, who first hit Rafal Czarnecki and then spun his teammate Ian Maslen, but all drivers were able to continue their race. In the high-speed turn eight after the bridge Giovanni Coronin was sliding across the track and he already took Engel with him as he controlled his car again. Hardwick suffered from extreme understeering and was running straight into the wall, which led to his retirement a few moments later. Southword on second spun at the exit of the penultimate turn and fell down to ninth but he got back to eighth on the start-finish line after a battle with Czarnecki.

On this fast track the best concentration was required because every mistake has been punished. Next example was Michael Booth, who went on the grass after turn five and slid directly into the wall. Despite some damage he could continue, but he had to defend himself against Coronin and Czarnecki. Coronin squeezed past him but Czarnecki went into his slipstream, had therefore no downforce in turn eight and spun on the grass. Booth drove to the pits just like Isaac Price, who had to serve a Stop&Go penalty from a race earlier this season. But he didn’t serve the penalty correctly when he went to the pits the first time and therefore he had to stop a second time which put him closely to Booth at the end of the field.

Behind Cattell were Rob Logtenberg, Adrian Bakaj, Dominik Engel and Dave Southword, who was back on third after eight of forty-two laps, but already in lap ten he went to his first pit-stop. The regular pit stops started four laps later, and also, amongst others, the stops of Diop and Hutchinson, who were running on fifth and seventh at that time. Engel was also important as he was pitting two laps later than his direct opponents and when he rejoined the track he was in front of Logtenberg, Bakaj and Southword. Cattell was already leading by fifteen seconds at that time and the gap was getting bigger in the following laps.

At half-time Hutchinson and Diop came together again, who already had a battle when both started the race in the pit lane. This time Hutchinson was the winner and was on sixth position in front of Diop. Behind them Price overtook Lims Chebbi for eighth. Behind Cattell a trio consisting of Engel, Logtenberg and Southword formed himself. The latter passed Logtenberg just after half-time and was on his way to overtake Engel. However both made contact at the exit of turn four when it got too close between both of them and Southword was ending up in the barrier. He could continue his race, but Logtenberg was again in front of him. Two laps later Logtenberg overtook Engel on the oval, but Engel countered at the layout chicane and was back at the front. Logtenberg lost a bit of speed in that turn which gave Southword a chance to pass him and he did it. After his move Southword went straight to the pits again.

Logtenberg attacked Engel again a bit later and when he already was in front of him, Engel misjudged his braking point and drove straight into the back of Logtenberg what ended his race. Ian Maslen went into the gravel trap at turn four and had to retire as well when a safe recovery wasn’t possible. After clearing the track the second round of pit stops began. Engel again stayed out a few laps longer, but this time he couldn’t get rid of Southword and he rejoined just in front of him. Also Diop was back in front of Hutchinson, but now both were able to see Bakaj on fourth.

Cattell was leading with gap of half a lap and was heading towards the win, behind him Southword went past Engel, both had a big gap to Bakaj on fourth so they ended up on the podium as well. Behind them Hutchinson was the first to attack Bakaj. In lap thirty-four Bakaj went wide, so Hutchinson was trying to get past him on the inside. Both drove next to each other through the penultimate corner until they went out of space and spun. Diop said “Thanks” and was now on fourth. Hutchinson went past Bakaj a lap later and was then hunting Diop until five laps prior to the finish, when he went past Diop to take over fourth. That means that both drivers that started from the pits finished as fourth and fifth in front of Bakaj. Isaac Price saved the seventh spot after a kinky start of his race, Lims Chebbi, Rafal Czarnecki and Matt Maslen are on the remaining positions that will still see some points.

With the end of the season some anecdotes are suitable now: Lims Chebbi scored his first points since his debut inn last year, Adam Wisniewski is the only driver who scored two drivers’ championship until now and Dave Southword is the only driver in OWRL F1 history who stood on the podium in every year of OWRL F1 since 2007 at least once. Additionally three teams should be mentioned here: Maslen F1 Racing and Sonicrealms Racing were taking part unexceptional in every race of the last two season, also the 1stBFA Racing Team took part in all four years (48 races) 47 times. Great achievements that will hopefully improved in the upcoming years.

Even though the F1 season has finished, the OWRL doesn’t have a winter break. After the last regular season races with the FO8, the annual MRT Cup will start after Christmas. Both series are free for driver, a short sign-up at owrl.de and the event is all you need. More info: owrl.de

A big thank you goes out to all spectators and readers who followed the season and also thank you to all drivers and teams who took part this season!

See you on track.

Wisniewski after win in best position to defend his championship title

The eleventh and penultimate round of this years’ OWRL F1 season at the Westhill International circuit was at first a battle against the loss of concentration. Many fast corners can lead too many mistakes by the drivers, led by Adam Wisniewski and Quentin Benoît, who can’t just treat their car with care to score just a few points; the standings are too close for that in the final stages of the season.

The qualifying showed a few other drivers, who wanted to finish the race on the highest possible position. The best time of the day was held by Jarl Teien in the first qualifying, being the only driver with a time under 1:10.00. After both Ian and Matt Maslen have been eliminated after Q1, Teien was able to achieve his first pole-position of the year, followed by both Sonicrealms Racing drivers Michael Booth and Peter Hopkins. Then on positions four and five were Benoît and Wisniewski. In that order all drivers reached the first corner.

In turn two Benoît slid to the outside, Wisniewski immediately took the inside line and was now in fourth. Behind them Michael Raymond and Maciej Wójcik touched and ended up in the gravel, but both were able to recover as eleventh and twelfth. Between them and the top runners both Maslen F1 drivers were chasing both 1stBFA drivers Peter Corbalan, who improved his position from ninth to sixth at the start, and Erwin Caffé. Then in the second lap, Sonicrealms Racing noticed that this race wasn’t running in favour of them. First Peter Hopkins touched the grass while turning into turn two and ended up in the wall, a few kilometres later Michael Booth lost his car in the fast chicane and slid straight into the tyre stack. Booth suffered just light damage and was back in fourth a few laps later, Hopkins had to make a pit stop with a heavily damaged car and then retired.

When Booth overtook Caffé, the latter had a very frightening moment when his rear overtook him at 315km/h in turn one. He was also bouncing back from the tyres onto track, but luckily he didn’t take any other cars with him. Nonetheless his race was over but the end of this series of mistakes didn’t stop here. Next one was the current leader Jarl Teien, whose car was thrown out of balance after it has been hit by a tire stack which was thrown on the track by Ian Maslen, who also went straight on into the barrier. Teien fell back to third and was then heading to his first early pit stop, what explains his fastest time in Q2. At the same time Benoît was overtaking Wisniewski and therefore leading the race. In that order both were doing their first pit stop, overall both were, except for a few situations, only separated by less than two seconds the whole race.

After the first pit stops the order was changed behind the leaders. Behind Benoît and Wisniewski suddenly Raymond showed up on third, who pitted very late and also he did benefit of an error by Booth. Behind both was Matt Maslen on fifth, who started from eleventh and even served a drive-through penalty in the first lap for an incident at last race. Disappointing was the race for both Its All About Racing driver: Martin Wójcik had to retire after a driver error just like Adrian Bakaj, who got stuck in the gravel trap next to the chicane. That result didn’t improve the team’ chances for overall third in the Team Championship.

Benoît led the race until the middle of the race in front of Wisniewski, who didn’t want to wait until the next pit stops and overtook Benoît at turn one to be the new leader. Shortly before the second pit stops both were coming close to Booth, who let Wisniewski pass after a rather long period of time and then Benoît was coming closer. At least until the chicane because Benoît lost the control over his car for a short amount of time and was only able to prevent himself from spinning and ending up in the barrier with a hard braking maneuver. That cost him ten seconds on Wisniewski, who was now able to change his tyres at the pit stop. Wisniewski was running on R3 tyres in opposite to Benoît on R4 tyres. That way Benoît closed the gap after both stops to just a few seconds.

On third position Raymond was having a quiet race and got under pressure just a short time by Booth, but the latter had to pit another time and also made a driver error that cost him additional seconds. That way Matt Maslen was able to threaten him, but he had his thoughts elsewhere for a second as well, so the order Booth in front of Maslen remained for the next laps. While coming to the finish Benoît could close the gap to Wisniewski, but he was also suffering from his heavy braking in the chicane where his suspension got some damage. That is why in the final lap his suspension collapsed at the rear and he was forced to limp over the finish line, giving Wisniewski an easy final lap to win in front of his biggest contender, followed by Michael Raymond and Michael Booth on third and fourth. Position five went to Jarl Teien, who hunted Matt Maslen until the very end and broke his defense shortly before the chequered flag. The final points went to Peter Corbalan on seventh and Ian Maslen on eighth, who got stuck in a gravel trap and rescued himself within a few laps but went out of fuel on the last mile. Thanks to other drivers he was able to roll over the finish line.

In the final race neither Championship is decided. Wisniewski is leading the drivers’ championship with twelve points and also has clearly more wins than Benoît, who’ll need more than just a tie in points. The third position is also yet to be decided, because Wójcik scored zero points and is now just nine points in front of Raymond. At the Teams’ Championship nothing is decided as well, although Redline Racing is leading by twenty-six points in front of Spdo Racing. Forty-three points are the maximum per event, so Spdo Racing has to expect something to happen. Behind them Sonicrealms Racing is on third position with eighteen points in front of Its All About Speed.

The last race traditionally will take place in the land of the rising sun on the GP course of the Kyoto Ring. Fast and slow corners together with short and long straights are something that will touch the heart of every race driver. Additionally the fast chicane where the cars leave the oval will be replaced with a slower corner to erase a random factor of the track.

Against the originally schedule the final race will be held on Saturday, 13 November at 18:30 UTC – 19:30 CET, to give everyone the best possible preparation for the race. If a driver wants to take part at this race, please contact the team members to fill a seat for them at this race. The race will be broadcasted by MultiBC at 18:30 UTC.

Wisniewski retakes the lead again after win at South City
germanpio

Race number ten was held in sunset conditions at South City Reversed and yet again, just like last year Adam Wisniewski proved to be the one to beat at this circuit. After the eventful race two weeks ago this time he wanted to have a quiet race, which he got, at least in the last third of the race as Simon Cattell chased him down to the second pit stop, but then Wisniewski was all alone.

The qualifying showed two separate grids on the circuit as the top six with Wisniewski on pole next to Matias Pikkarainen were within one second and the other drivers in Q2 were already two seconds behind. But before the race even started, Pikkarainen suffered an electrical failure and had to retire from the race, so Quentin Benoît, who took part as current leader of the championship, started from second in front of Simon Cattell.

In these cars this not-so-dangerous turn one was a really dangerous spot at the start in last year as several drivers kissed the wall after suffering from the loss of downforce effect, this time however everything went fine through the first turns. 1stBFA driver Matthias Felix lost his fourth place to Michael Raymond and also Maciej Wójcik found a way past him, but he and Felix switched places soon after that. Wójcik was then in bigger problems as he fell down to tenth and after that he got involved in a heavy crash on the start-finish line. Dominik Engel, reserve driver for Sonicrealms Racing, got under pressure of Adrian Bakaj on the straight, but Bakaj moved too late out of the slip stream and hit the rear of Engel. Both spun and Rafal Czarnecki in his debut race for 1stBFA and Matt Maslen drove straight into both cars. Surprisingly only Engel, who flew high over the circuit, had to retire, the others went to an early pit stop, but seeing that the regular pit stops were already in reach, it didn’t affect their strategies that much.

The usual strategy of being out a few laps longer to get in front of someone else worked again this time. Wisniewski kept his lead, but now Cattell was behind him after staying out three laps longer than Benoît. Also Felix moved ahead of Raymond which was the start of a great battle between these two that went on or more than ten laps until Felix made a little mistake that gave Raymond the chance to get into fourth position. But it didn’t last long when Raymond suddenly went straight in turn nine and was lucky enough that the run-off area was directly in front of him, but Felix was away at that point and after their pit stop, Raymond’s times dropped significantly.

Before the second round of pit stops Wisniewski was just three seconds in front of Cattell, who drove the fastest lap at that time, but he was the one who pitted first, Wisniewski could stay out four laps longer. But before Wisniewski got to the pits, Cattell turned off the traction control at the exit of turn two too early and spun, losing ten seconds and possibly a chance to attack Wisniewski for the win this time. But even with his mistake he kept his second position against Benoît who couldn’t keep up with the speed of these two in the middle stint. Wisniewski could now cruise to the finish line, followed by Cattell and Benoît by twenty-five seconds, Felix and Raymond followed behind them. Wójcik worked his way back up to sixth and Matt Maslen finished seventh after overtaking Bakaj when six laps were left in the race. The latter went over the line as eighth after being the only driver with three pit stops in the race. And the final points go to Rafal Czarnecki and Ian Maslen.

After the race the marshals penalized Cattell with a time penalty for crossing the yellow pit exit line completely, therefore Benoît moved up to second and Cattell down to third. This gives Wisniewski in the championship standings a five-point edge over Benoît and with two races to go and six to two race wins, Benoît has to get past him because a tie in points wouldn’t be enough for him. Maciej Wójcik on third is out the title race, but he should keep an eye on Michael Raymond who is just waiting for a big push in the final races.

The Team Standings show Redline Racing still in front of Spdo Racing with now eighteen points, also the fight for position three between Sonicrealms Racing and Its All About Speed, who are just separated by six points, prove that there is no more room for mistakes. It is a bit ironic that the next track on 16th October is Westhill International, THE High-speed circuit in the live for speed universe. Just a little inattention and your race might be over, so a lot of excitement still awaits us in the final races.

Rudy van Buren wins at Aston National Rev
germanpio

Rudy van Buren, who drove for White Tiger Express Motorsports, came from seventh on the grid and was already in second after a turbulent first laps where both championship rivals Adam Wisniewski and Quentin Benoît had accidents. Benoît lost his car in the last turn of the circuit while Wisniewski lost his leading position at the start against Sebastian Hutchinson and after getting his position back, he got a hard hit by the latter which put him back into ninth. His teammate at Spdo Racing, Matias Pikkarainen, was the leader until the first pit stops were made and with a very late stop van Buren took over the lead and lost it only during his second pit stop. Pikkarainen fell back to third when Raymond overtook him prior to the first stop, but also fell back because he was one of the few drivers who changed tyres in the whole race. That gave Pikkarainen his second position back behind winner van Buren. Raymond dropped back behind his team mate Benoît in the final laps with some mistakes, that gave Hutchinson third place in front of Benoît and Raymond, who kept his place in front of Wójcik. Wisniewski finished seventh to keep the gap to Benoît as small as possible, but the latter is back again in the championship lead. Adrian Bakaj, Rob Logtenberg und Yann Laprevotte collect the final points.

After the race a few penalties have been addedand that changed the final result. Hutchinson lost his third position after his accident with Wisniewski, also Raymond got penalised after some minor infringements. Benoît moves up to third and Wisniewski up to fifth, who is just two points behind Benoît before we head to the final three races. In the Team Championship Redline Racing is losing a few points against Spdo Racing who are now just fifteen points seperated. Behind them Sonicrealms Racing and Its All About Speed will be in the running for the third place. The next race will take place at South City Long Reversed this weekend on the 2nd October at 19:30 CEST.

Adam Wisniewski unbeatable at Blackwood GP

After the summer break the league headed to Blackwood where the BF1 made his first public appearance to prepare for the seventh round of the OWRL F1. After his disqualification in the last race at Aston North Adam Wisniewski had to do something to keep the current championship leader Quentin Benoît in his sight, but his prior results in Blackwood weren’t as successful as they needed to be this time.

It was close in the first qualifying regarding who will move on to the next segment. This time Matt Maslen made it in the last second with the elimination of his teammate Ian into the top ten of Q1, but in Q2 the usual drivers were fighting for the pole position. With Ruben Blasco, a new driver from the CoRe Racing Team showed his speed but he got stuck in the gravel and therefore had to start from tenth position. Wisniewski could celebrate another pole position in front of both Redline Racing drivers Mika Raymond and Quentin Benoît with a gap of two tenth of a second. The second row was completed once again by Rob Logtenberg, who was just behind both of them.

At the start Wisniewski was able to stay in front of Benoît and Raymond, behind them Logtenberg missed his braking point in turn one and rejoined next to Pasi Juvani and Maciej Wójcik, but here wasn’t enough space for three cars, that’s why Wójcik spun out into the gravel before he continued with his race. At the front Benoît was hit by his teammate in the rear. Both spun and Raymond was hit by the car of Blasco, who got a little push by András Szabó. On the following straight Logtenberg used the slipstream of Christian Felder and Pasi Juvani to get past them over the grass, but released the throttle to avoid a collision. That left Felder and Juvani behind the leader Wisniewski who was already leading by a few seconds. At the end of the straight Ian Maslen touched the reserve driver of It’s all about speed, Steve Dent, slightly, who was hit heavily after that by Blasco. Dent spun and had to retire shortly after that.

After their accident Benoît and Raymond could work their way up again. Benoît was back on second place within ten laps, Raymond reached third position just before his first pit stop in front of Christian Felder. Logtenberg however had to give away his fourth position due to a very early first pit stop in lap thirteen. Juvani fell back from third to sixth as well. At the first set of pit stops Felder could get past Mika Raymond with a late pit stop and a few leading laps and was then directly behind Benoît, but wasn’t able to get past him in their second stint. Behind them Raymond got himself into trouble after a mistake because that offered Ruben Blasco a chance to attack him, but both awaited the second pit stops.

Wisniewski kept his lead after his second pit stop with a gap of more than thirty seconds, Blasco had a very long pit stop, that’s why Raymond was alone again on fourth position. Pasi Juvani took advantage of the situation and got between them on fifth position, but a small mistake by him gave Blasco his position back. The fight for position two was getting strange: Felder didn’t get past Benoît with a late pit stop again but was then invited by him to move in front. A short time later he threw away his position during the hunt of Benoit and after overlapping Erwin Caffé he got hit by the latter, who was still in his slipstream, and went in the gravel. He managed to keep his third position, but Raymond was just two seconds behind him.

Both were overlapped by the winner Adam Wisniewski, only Quentin Benoît on second position was the only one who was with him in the lead lap. The other points went to Matt Maslen on eighth position, followed by Logtenberg on ninth and Ian Maslen on tenth, giving Maslen F1 Racing the first time points for both cars in a race.

With the win Wisniewski could reduce the gap to current Championship leader Quentin Benoît to sixteen points. Maciej Wójcik on third position didn’t finish the race for the first time this season and is now fifty-five points behind Wisniewski. In the Team Championship Redline Racing is still leading in front of SPDO Racing and Sonicrealms Racing in third place, who got past It’s all about speed and Raptor-Gaming.

The next race is at 4th September on the Kyoto National course. The qualifying begins at 17:30 GMT, everything as always LIVE on MultiBC + XciteTV.

OWRL F1 2010: Quentin Benoît with a racewin back on top at mid-season

Before the drivers will start their summer break, they had to drive sixty laps at the Aston North circuit for the sixth round of this years’ OWRL F1 season. Adam Wisniewski led Quentin Benoît by two points which gave both a good chance to rest two months as the leader of the championship.

With Conquest Racing a new team has found its way into the league and with Mateusz Daszkiewicz, one of their drivers made it straightaway into the second qualifying segment. With Peter Hopkins on tenth position a retired driver made an appearance and made it into the second part just barely. Like in Q1, Adam Wisniewski set the fastest time to get pole-position in front of Quentin Benoît and Rob Logtenberg, who achieved the best starting position for Force Hungary so far.

When the red lights went out, Wisniewski already went a few feet forward which meant only one thing: Drive-through penalty! Benoît had to defend himself against Mika Raymond who came from fourth position, both touched each other but didn’t get any damage from it. Daszkiewicz used this to slip past Raymond on the inside line and was now in third position. Two hairpins later he attacked Benoît and was now behind Wisniewski in second position. Maciej Wójcik went on the grass while braking for the third hairpin and dropped five positions to tenth. The start went fine until the fast right-hander before the downhill chicane when Adrian Bakaj and Christian Rauch were side-by-side going into the turn. Both touched and slid onto the grass into a wall. Rauch bumped back on track against the car of Erwin Caffé, who didn’t have any chance to avid him. Both had to retire, Bakaj was barely able to make it back to the pits, but after another pit stop a lap later already ruined his race.

Next to Wójcik other drivers had to lose positions as well: Jarl Teien dropped within a few laps from seventh to sixteen, Sebastian Hutchinson had to suffer the same. While both stayed at the back for most of their race, Pasi Juvani was able to get back to fifth after a dropping a few positions as well. The same applied to Wójcik after his braking error in lap one, who was now just behind Juvani. Logtenberg had to say goodbye to his spot in the top five. Thanks to his loss of positions Peter Hopkins inherited the fifth position. Marcin Makalowski, the other driver of the new Conquest Racing Team, was able to improve from his starting position fifteen to the eighth place just before the first set of pit stops.

Wisniewski was clearly in front, but he failed to serve his penalty within three laps as the rules stated and that ended his race early with a disqualification. This led to a battle for the lead between Daszkiewicz, Benoît and Raymond. Benoît attacked Daszkiewicz in the fast part of the second sector, but with the loss of downforce he had to back off the throttle. Raymond took advantage of it and went past him and in turn ten Raymond started a surprise attack on Daszkiewicz. It looked like it was going to work, but he started moving to the outside and took Daszkiewicz with him, giving Benoît the inside line where he was able to overtake both for the lead.

Benoît stayed on track for the longest time before heading off to his first pit stop, therefore he could defend his lead against Daszkiewicz, who overtook Raymond on a pitstop that was just one lap later than the one of the latter. Between both Patrick Kreutz showed up for a short time, who started after a disappointing fourteenth starting position with a full fuel tank was shortly on third before making his late first pit stop. He continued on sixth behind Wójcik and Juvani. After two more retirements by Andras Szabó and Jarl Teien, Benoît could increase his lead to ten seconds while Daszkiewicz, Raymond and Wójcik were separated by three seconds each. Logtenberg could overtake Hopkins and Makalowski and was on seventh before everyone was preparing for the second and final pit stopps.

Wójcik was the first in the pits and just like Raymong he made a very long stop that separated them from Daszkiewicz and sent them into a battle with Juvani, who didn’t change his tyres and was now in front of Wójcik. Benoît and Daszkiewicz went to the pitsin the same lap and left without a change of the gap between them. After that the latter wasn’t able to keep up with the lap times of Benoît anymore, who then was on a lonely run to his second win of the season. Juvani didn’t change his tyres, as well as Kreutz, that saved them some time for the moment. At the back Hopkins had to retire from the race and Ian Maslen had to be satisfied with the last place after two pit stops in a row.

Juvani and Kreutz didn’t change tyres despite the fast turns. Both were penalized six laps before the chequered flag when at both cars the front left tyre blew up, Kreutz went also into the wall after that, which needed extra time to repair the car. Logtenberg was close enough and won two positions, that left him in fifth behind Wójcik, giving himself and his team a big boost in both championships. Juvani saved himself from Newcomer Makalowski as sixth into the finish. Las Ole Storhaug finished eighth, who drove an unconspicuous race and scored four points after winning two additional positions when Kreutz and Hutchinson had to stop again. The latter made his fourth pit stop but was able to overtake Kreutz before the end of the race.

Benoît won invulnerably in front of Mateusz Daszkiewicz, who finished second in his first race, and Mika Raymond, who is also starting in his second race so far. With the results Benoît leads the field into the summer break which lasts two months. The gap for Wisniewski to Benoît is 23 points big, but with the new points system such handicap could easily be erased very fast. In the Teams’ Championship Redline Racing took over the lead from SPDO Racing as well.

The summer break ends on 21 August when the second part of the season starts in Blackwood. This race will be broadcasted like the other races live on MultiBC.

The sixth and last race before a longer break takes place at the Aston North circuit, a difficult track where bravery is rewarded more than on other tracks with the fast downhill chicane or the complete second and thrid sector. Christian Felder will try to win another race to close the gap to the current leader of the championship Adam Wisniewski and his chaser Quentin Benoît, woh are just seperated by two points. After that the drivers will get two months of rest.
At 17:30 GMT - 19:30 CEST Stefan 'germanpio' Piotrowski commentates the event on MultiBC.

The fifth round of this years’ OWRL F1 season was held at the Westhill International course which was used in the reversed configuration under sunset conditions. After the lead change in the world championship last race where SPDO Racing’s Adam Wisniewski took the lead from Quentin Benoît of Redline Racing, the latter had to react this time. In addition to that many new faces were seen on this high-speed track.

Benoît got support from Mika Raymond and Christian Felder of Sonicrealms Racing got with Sebastian Hutchinson another team mate as well. But the best debut had Lukas Vieten, who was driving for SPDO Racing and showed everyone how fast he was right in the first qualifying segment by beating the current champion Adam Wisniewski. With seven drivers within one second everybody awaited a tight battle throughout the race. In the second part of qualifying it was Adam Wisniewski for the third time in a row that got the pole-position in front of Christian Rauch of Raptor-Gaming, Felder and Vieten formed the second row. But the way to the first turn was long, that meant that this order didn’t had to be the order the first couple of miles.

When the red lights went out, Vieten went past Felder right away and then attacked Rauch on the outside, but he safely remained in third position. Behind him Carsten Hörenbaum overtook Hutchinson, who was also passed by Benoît and therefore lost two places to find himself back in seventh position. In the middle of the grid Lucas Araújo got tangled up with Maciej Wójcik which left the latter struggling in the grass and losing a few positions. Before the fast chicane Felder could retake the position of Vieten, who had to slow down which robbed Hörenbaum of his downforce at the exit of the chicane and sent him off the track, dropping to position eight. Struggling with the loss of downforce were Rauch and Benoît as well. While Benoît could keep his car on track, Rauch was sliding into the wall and was barely able to get his car back into the pits. Hutchinson got off the track in the penultimate corner and had to pit as well after the first lap.

Generally the race was over for a few drivers before the first set of pit stops. Araújo retired desperately after two pit stops within four laps, later Lukas Vieten and also Jarl Teien of the NordicUK Racing Team, who was more fighting with his car than with his opponents, retired as well. Hutchinson, who visited the pits early after his first stop in lap one, let another two stops follow, but refused to abort his first OWRL F1 race. Hörenbaum and Raymond were missing after four laps in the leading group, too and had to be satisfied with a position outside the points. After the retirement of Vieten the leaders were a trio consisting of the current leader Wisniewski, followed by Felder and Benoît. Maciej Wójcik followed on fourth position after falling back to sixteenth during the first lap and recovering nicely. Nonetheless the gap to the drivers in front of him was already at twenty seconds, which continued to grow in the following laps.

Following Wójcik was Erwin Caffé, even though he had a kinky start, who was in front of his teammate at the 1stFBA Racing Team, Lars Ole Storhaug, and Mika Raymond, who was back in seventh after his accident and pit stop in lap one. The third trio was behind him and consisted of Christian Rauch, Yann Laprevotte and András Szabó. Both Laprevotte and Szabó were racing with a one-stop strategy which is rather unusual for a high-speed circuit. Adrian Bakaj was joining them during the race, who was the only driver in the middle of the grid who was on the regular two-stop strategy. Completing the grid were both drivers of the Maslen F1 Racing Teams. While Matt retired at half-time, Ian was struggling with his pace after moving up to seventh place and dropped down to last position as the race went on.

In the leading group everyone was waiting for the first pit stops. Wisniewski went to the pits two laps earlier than his opponents, that gave Felder the chance to take over the lead after his stop and when he rejoined the track, he was in first position. Benoît stayed behind Wisniewski within his reach and that led to a duel between the two current top drivers of the championship. In lap 21 Wisniewski went onto the grass on the exit of turn five and lost his speed for the following straight. Benoît tried to get past him on the outside just on the entry of the fast chicane, what resulted in a collision between them. Benoît saved his car in the chicane at high speed and recovered without any major time loss, Wisniewski however had to drive again over the grass and lost eight seconds. Felder could open the gap to Benoît to three seconds.

Before the second pit stops the order in the middle of the grid was mixed up after many spins, which gave Bakaj surprisingly the fifth position in front of Storhaug and Raymond. Caffé made a mistake after his second pit stop in one of the numerous fast turns and had to retire from his race outside the points. Even Christian Rauch had to stop again due to a spin and found himself behind Szabó and Laprevotte, who were on a good way to score their first points of this season, on tenth place. But Rauch was much faster than these two and therefore he could move up two positions before the chequered flag. Szabó and Laprevotte finished the race as ninth and tenth, with Laprevotte scoring the first points for his team Tiger Express Motorsports Racing. Carsten Hörenbaum on eleventh left empty-handed, but drove the fastest lap of the race. In front of them Storhaug had to stop for a third time, therefore Bakaj finishing on fifth place in front of Raymond and Storhaug.

Felder was leading the race and went to the pits as last of the front-runners, Benoît was pitting three laps earlier than Wisniewski, but was able to keep his second position clearly. Wisniewski however had to pit again for an unscheduled third stop after his left front tyre blew up, but Wójcik was far away that made it easy for him to secure third place. At the front Christian Felder of Sonicrealms Racing was celebrating his first ever OWRL F1 win in his third race.

With his second place Quentin Benoît reduced the gap to Adam Wisniewski to just two points in the World Championship, Maciej Wójcik on third is next to Benoît the only driver who scored points in every race so far. Felder worked his way up to fourth with his win. In the Teams’ Championship SPDO Racing still has a lead of four points to Redline Racing, followed by three teams who are fighting for the third place.

The sixth and last race before the summer break takes place on 19 June at 17:30 GMT at the Aston North track, which will be broadcasted LIVE by MultiBC.

We head to the fast circuit of Westhill for the fifth round of the OWRL F1 series in 2010, where both Adam Wisniewski and Quentin Benoît are continuing their fight for the lead in the world championship. Although the track is much faster than the two previous races, the room for failures is again small so there will be no time to rest for the drivers.

The LIVE broadcast starts at 17:30 GMT - 19:30 CEST on MultiBC with Stefan 'germanpio' Piotrowski and Christian 'Hansi' Kistner guiding you through the event.

Adam Wisniewski makes it three in a row

After the tight circuit of South City we headed to the circuit of Jamaica, where the fourth race of the season were held on the Fern Bay Black track. Both Adam Wisniewski and Quentin Benoît wanted to be in the top position of the world championship after this race and their teams SPDO Racing and Redline Racing were also fighting for the lead in the Team Championship.

On the 4.1 mi long circuit Jarl Teien of NordicUK Racing set the fastest lap in the first qualifying, when the fuel tanks of the cars were empty and everything was focused on getting into the top ten and therefore taking part in the second part of qualifying. This time Erwin Caffé and Lims Chebbi as ninth and tenth were able to secure a spot in Q2 by a margin of just two and three hundredth of a second against Oscar Hardwick who started from the eleventh position. In Q2 everyone had to drive under Parc Fermé conditions, that’s why the lap times increased by two seconds. Wisniewski was able to achieve pole position just like two weeks ago in South City, followed by both Sonicrealms Racing drivers Sascha Riegler and Christian Felder. Riegler just missed pole position by +0.01 seconds.

At the start a conservative strategy proved to be the right one in the past year and this time was no exception, leading the field into turn one without an incident. Wisniewski lead in front of Riegler, behind them Felder went wide which gave Patrick Kreutz a chance to move into third position. In the following chicane Felder lost downforce behind Kreutz and slid into the tyre barrier. Benoît could avoid Felder, but Hörenbaum and Teien hit Felder, leaving him and Hörenbaum spinning off the track, but both were able to continue their race. Yann Laprevotte followed them over the grass. Oscar Hardwick made the same mistake two turns later, almost took Chebbi with him, but he was able to continue as well. Hardwick was also the first victim of the famous Fern bay chicane midway through the first lap, lost due to the damage his control over the car in the next left turn and spun after another hit by Matt Maslen off the track.

Wisniewski lead in front of Riegler, Kreutz and Benoît, who could move up to second after mistakes by both German drivers. There were no other possibilities to overtake someone in front except waiting for a mistake, which is why overtaking manoeuvres were scarce articles. That also led to Lims Chebbi keeping a group of other drivers behind him for the first laps just like in South City, but after three laps Teien, Wójcik, Storhaug and Felder a few minutes later found a way past him. Chebbi then lost his car in turn five shortly before the bridge and had to bring his car slowly back to the pits. A few laps later he had to retire like his teammate Laprevotte, even Felder and Teien shared the same destiny. Between the top four and the midfield Pasi Juvani and Erwin Caffé drove on positions five and six unchallenged, but they also had to end their races after a few incidents lately at midrace. These and further retirements led to a failure rate of more than fifty percent, which is even higher than at the South City races.

The first pit stops didn’t change the order at the front, but Riegler had the fastest pace after that and soon was overtaking Benoît and Wisniewski and after that he set a few fastest laps to extend his lead against the duo. Because Wisniewski and Benoît were driving close to each other, Kreutz could catch up to them. He and Riegler went to the pits for the second time at the middle of the race and were facing misfortune from that point on. Kreutz had to stop again six laps later for the third time to repair his car and Riegler spun at turn fifteen off the track, avoided the impact but nonetheless retired from the race, leaving the race win to either Wisniewski or Benoît. Wisniewski was still leading, but his suspension was close to collapsing and there was still a third of the race to go.

Behind the top three Maciej Wójcik and Lars Ole Storhaug were in a battle for fourth position, which was lost by Storhaug after a mistake at the exit of turn seventeen shortly after his second pit stop when he lost the car after getting on the grass with the outer rear tyre. Behind them sixth placed Adrian Bakaj got under pressure by Carsten Hörenbaum, who was driving at the end of the field after his accident at the start and a drive-through penalty. But he had no problems taking over the sixth position from Bakaj, who lost control of his car at turn five after that and had to get back to the pits with a damaged car. Ian Maslen benefitted from this and gave eighth and last position to Bakaj.

Leader Wisniewski had to prevent his suspension from damage that caused Benoît to push in the final ten laps of the race, but when he reduced the gap from ten to seven seconds, he made the same mistake like Storhaug and Bakaj between turns four and five. The way back to the pits cost him about two minutes where he got a drive through penalty as well, that didn’t affect his position at the end. Kreutz won a position thanks to the mistake of Benoît and finished second behind Wisniewski, who was now able to save his car in the final laps to win the race.

Adam Wisniewski now took over the lead from Quentin Benoît in the World Championship with an advantage of five points, followed by Patrick Kreutz and Maciej Wójcik who have both 36 points. In the Team Championship SPDO Racing is leading Redline Racing and Raptor Gaming.

The next race is already on this Saturday on 5 June 2010 at the Westhill International Reversed circuit and will be broadcasted live on MultiBC at 17:30 GMT.
