Quote from Scawen : Then try to use a text entry dialog to type /eventlist=no so it does not try to load the list of events. If this seems to stop the problem then we can suppose it may be related to the list of events. I'd like to know if that is the case.

That did the trick. Thank you so much for your quick response and excellent troubleshooting, Scawen! Also, kudos to you and the team for the latest developments in LFS and the improving graphics updates.

Hello. I updated to the new version from multiplayer today, and now the sim crashes to desktop after a few seconds after launch. The events section to the left loads the first 1 or 2 event images. After which, the game crashes.

I tried to install over the existing location using the latest installer (LFS_S3_7D_setup). The problem persists. I haven't tried doing a clean install, though. Interestingly, if I launch the game through a spr, I can see the replay, and even test drive without a crash. When I click on multiplayer, sim crashes again in a few seconds. Some kind of connection related issue?

Pardon me if it's something already covered. I haven't been active on LFS for a while now.

Quote from lfsrm :- You will have the ping problem as the majority of the servers are hosted in Europe.
- Yes the multiplayer is still active.
- Your system spec should do ok, between low-mid settings you will get 50-60 fps.

Thanks for the advice and info, lfsrm. Ping looks like the main deciding factor for me, then.

Hello Friends,

I'm thinking about buying AC Ultimate Edition, which is available for sale on steam atm. Please advise if people are still very active on AC multiplayer, because I wouldn't want to find myself alone with no one to drive with. Will I be disadvantaged for only having the Ultimate Edition (which, I believe has DLC's up to the Ferrari Anniversary release, including the 2004 F1 Ferrari) and the Porsche dream pack?

I usually have some lag on LFS with a ping of about 180 ms, but it's stable at 5mbps. I wouldn't want to be kicked for lagging on AC or to not have fun because of too much lag. I won't be buying anything else beyond the Ultimate Edition. So, I'd like to know if it's worth getting the Ultimate Edition. It will cost me Rupees 2,500+, which isn't that much, but certainly not low enough to spare.

My system spec are as follows:
Lenovo Y510P
Core i7 4702 MQ @ 2.20Ghz - 3.2Ghz
nVidia GT755 SLI
8 GB Ram
Available HD space: 170 GB
Fibernet cable 5mbps with 80GB/month volume

I'll be driving with mouse and keyboard, by the way. If there were no multiplayer, I wouldn't buy it. So, go, or no go?

Assuming this can be done, use and setup of springs can mimic some sensation of steering and pedal sensitivities.

Hello mates.

I saw this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3r3e9NcaFc and had an idea. By the way, the video is about making a wheel by having the wheel column (cylinder) rotate around a fixed mouse's x axis. Mouse buttons are used for throttle and brake pedals.

The idea I had was to use 3 (or 4) mice. One for steering (x axis), one for throttle (Y+), one for brake (Y-) and one more, possibly, for shifting using the mouse wheel.

I can envision a setup where the mouse is pushed forward (from point A to B on a fixed surface) on depressing a home made throttle peddle contraption. But, the mouse would need to come back to its original position when lifting the throttle. This would engage the Y- axis, unless the particular mouse used for throttle could be operated by a script. It is impracticable to have the mouse move forward continuously every time the throttle is depressed and released, without making the mouse come back. The mouse assigned for throttle will have to travel to another country lol, given how much we'd have to depress, release the throttle pedal.

The same thing follows for the brake pedal. It would have to be pushed back on depressing the brake pedal, and come back to its original position when lifted. A mechanical setup can be envisaged for this also. But, again, the same issue of Y+ being engaged when the brake-mouse comes back to its original position would have to be dealt with. I don't anything about python, so I don't know if dead zones can be defined with actual coordinates of the mice being used.

Before the use of another mouse can be even thought of, I'd like to know if vJoy and GlovePie can be configured to register each mouse (and its axes and buttons) as inputs of a larger controller, instead of being read as mouse by the computer. If a driver needs to be written to have all mice understood as a single controller, it's game over (at least for me on Win 8.1).

So, ppl, can this be done with vJoy and GlovePie?

Yup, just tried it. You're right. Thanks for pointing that out, ColeusRattus.

I was interested about this after trying out a mod in F1 2013, which I found quite enthralling. Here's a video that shows a similar effect, though I think the actual effect isn't horizon tilting, but FOV related: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JIW8eDneYY

I suppose the default LFS FOV of 90 changed to something low would do the same thing. Will try it out. Thanks for your post.

nVidia update 355.60 was released yesterday; installed it and it looks like the problem is solved, though I haven't tested LFS thoroughly. I will report back when it is certain. nVidia users should update their drivers.

I wouldn't take Racer X NZ's post (above) lightly.

I'll be waiting till the "upgrade within a year offer" time period to decide whether I want it.

By the way, if you haven't downloaded win 10 installer yet, keep the windows update settings to "let me chose whether to download and install updates" option and leave it at that. The upgrade application (of Win 10) on the notification tab pops up asking you if you want to upgrade every restart, every re-login. Just cancel.

This is what's going to happen if you try to do a normal win 7/8.1 windows update - the update window will say downloading win 10 setup. Don't worry. Just click on the win 7/8.1 updates you want from the important and/or recommended options and update them. But, don't do this if your internet connection can fetch 3 GB of data within a few minutes. This trick works for slower connections. As said earlier, pick the updates, update, win 10 won't have the time to download fully. By that time, your updates will be downloaded and installed pending restart or confirmation of updates installed message.

Win 10 could eventually download all of its files when you do the steps mentioned above, say, 60 times on slower connections. To be sure, go to C:/windows/sofwaredistribution/download and empty that folder. Do it at your own risk.

Can someone clear these up:

Is it required to use a Microsoft account to login to Win 10?
What is Win 10's main selling point apart from being a really bad essay (Win 8) that was asked by the teacher to, "Do it Again!"?
Is Winn 10 of any use to people who don't use cloud services like onedrive, live tiles, Facebook, Twitter, and are not constantly on the grid, etc.?
Is Win 10 any good for people who do their searches with Google and have always uninstalled anything remotely named something like Internet Explorer or its new excuse, Edge?
Will Win 10 support stop after 2 years for home users and 4 years for Pro users?
Will it be subscription based, thereafter?
Any links to very objective, in-depth review of all Win 10's features?
Is Win 10 any good for CAD?
Will Win 10 allow me to change the location of pictures, documents, etc to where I want them to be (instead of being shortcuts or references)?
If not, can I chose where I put them?
I don't use these locations, anyway, because they're located on the system drive. I put nothing on the system drive.

Thanks.
Horizon tilt with head tilt on corners

Hi,

LFS already has 1G head tilt slider with a maximum setting of 2, but the cockpit view doesn't change to reflect this. The horizon should tilt whether it is caused by g or while looking at the apex.

LFS also has lateral, vertical and forward movement animations, which are great. The look to apex option is also available in LFS with axis, steer, msx and msy settings, which are all great at simulating the movements of the head while driving.

All is great, so if you could animate the horizon tilting, it would be great Thumbs up

I can confirm the same thing. I have nVidia GeForce GT 755M. It usually gives me FPS 300+- smoothly, but I've limited FPS to 100 (why push the card if 100 gets the job done). Everything's set at max and it worked well. The FPS used to stay between 90 and 100 and was smooth as Platonic Silk.

After the update, the FPS stays flat at 100, but there is noticable micro to minor stuttering. Sleep every frame turned to off doesn't remedy the problem. There's still stuttering. What does the "Maximum Buffer Frame" function do? Use 1, 2 or 0? Please suggest what options to turn off for computers that can handle LFS as it was just fine.

Power plans aren't causing this problem in my case. Maybe, someone can suggest what changes to put in the nVidia Control Center profile for LFS. Since I'm not using SLI with LFS, it's set to single GPU. Other than that, everything is at its default or set to use LFS' settings.

Specs:

i7 4702MQ Quad-Core
GT 755M
GT 755M
SLI is not used with LFS
Ram 8 GB
SSHD 1 TB with 8 GB SSD Cache
512 kbps internet.

If LFS stutters on this machine, then something is amiss. rFactor runs fine, since it's also a dx9 game, so does GTR2.

Quote from Keling :Which "feeder"? If you mean the demo program you should turn it off. You can only control each vJoy controller with one program at a time. Using multiple would mess up the input.

If you have no error after running the script it should work.

Hey, thanks again. I got it figured out. I'm using a simple script from the internet for mouse steering (below). It's working better than PPJoy on rFactor (I'm very happy . Can you please tell me what to add to get the mouse right and middle button also assigned?

from System import Int16

if starting:
x = 0
sensibilidadX = 50

x += mouse.deltaX * sensibilidadX

if (x > Int16.MaxValue):
x = Int16.MaxValue
elif (x < -Int16.MaxValue):
x = -Int16.MaxValue

vJoy[1].x = x

Hey, thanks for replying Kelling. I'm having difficulty understanding how both tools work, actually. I installed vJoy (204_10_80714) and FreePie (1.5.475.0).

Let's say that I'll be using Slagen's code above. What do I do first? With PPJoy it was simple, configure PPJoy, calibrate joystick with PPJoyMouse open, and I'd see the mouse x input on the calibration.

I've got vJoy feeder open, game controller open, vJoy monitor open and the FreePie script program open (with slagen's code pasted and run). The calibration window doesn't seem to read and calibration input.

rFactor's also running; doesn't detect mouse movements or buttons.

Hello,

Can someone please write a code (to be used with vJoy and FreePie) for just mouse steering. I'll be using it for rFactor. I recently got a new laptop which came with Win 8.1 - no PPJoy. I just need X- and X+. I'll map the rest with keyboard.

Please help!

P.S. Axis HID_USAGE_Z not enabled, enabled it from VJoy config - I'm getting this error also using the codes pasted above.

You've been quite helpful Racer X nz. I appreciate it. As I mentioned before, desktop isn't an option for me. We have power cuts here that go for 4 -5 hours during the monsoon, and as far as 12 hours of power cuts per day in the dry season. Fortunately, I have an inverter that keeps me plugged in most of the time. Laptop battery always comes in handy. If I get a desktop and a laptop, it'll be too expensive for my budget.

As far as my work is concerned, an i7 dual processor with a decent GPU (GT 740M) with 1 TB HD and 8 GB of ram will be enough, I'm sure, because my sibling's Dell - which is older, (i5 2nd Gen 2430m, half Ram and HDD - does the job for me. It can handle 500,000 on polygons on Max with PS CC running in the background and crisscross fine.

The problem is, it's not mine, so I can't use it all the time. LFS, rFactor, GTR2 and FSX run excellently fine on it, and so do DirectX 11 games like Battlefield 4 and Codemaster's F1 2012-13 (above 30 fps). I manage computers well both on the software and hardware side. I open the box and clean it up from time to time and do house cleaning on the OS and application side.

Interestingly, my laptop is an Acer 4715z, dual core T2 2370, 1.7GHz with 1.5 GB Ram, 128 GB HDD. It runs LFS with a minimum of 10 fps and max of 40 fps on Intel GMA 965 lol. So, anything slightly better than my bro's laptop is fine.

I did some more hunting today, and found one Inspiron 5437 with i7 4500u (but stuck at 1.8 GHz - couldn't see any hint of boost on it), with 1 TB HDD, 8 GB Ram and nVidia GeForce GT 750M with 2GB DDR5. Should I get it?

Is it possible to not have turbo boost on an i7. All specs of the 4500u says that it's possible to boost upto 3.00 GHz. But, the model I saw didn't show it on the bios or the device manager. Looks like someone trying to sell a dummy again lol. Dealer is charging 88 k. I can manage that if it's genuine.

Thanks again for your help so far. I really appreciate it.

I can wholly go for a desktop, but I would need a UPS with at least 5-6 hours of backup. I still need to do some research about desktops. We don't get the same models

Hello,

As the title of this post says, I need advice on buying the best budgeted laptop available out there (not just to play LFS), but also for graphic design work. I'd like to run 3DS Max 09-12 with Adobe PS on and a browser (say Chrome or Opera) for googling as I work. My budget is around USD 900-950).

The reason I'm asking here is because I made the mistake of getting an Inspiron 5537 with 4th Gen core i7 dual core (4500U) 1.7 GHz to 3.00 GHz, 8 GB ram, 1TB HDD Sata, but with the stupi* AMD Radeon HD 8760M with 2GB. This idio* didn't have the express option of enabling me to run LFS and rFactor on AMD exclusively. Win 8 64 was installed. I read issues people were having, here at LFS, with Win 8 not having as much support as Win 7 64 for DirectX 9 applications. It kept on picking Intel HD 4400. Installed Win 7 64, got its AMD driver, but no change even after assigning it to High Performance. So, I returned the junk. I got the dough back fully, so no prob at the end. Interestingly, that junk ran LFS at 32 FPS on the highest settings.

My sibling's Dell Inspiron N4410 with 3rd Gen Intel core i5 2.40 GHz with no turbo, 500 GB HDD, 4 GB ram with AMD HD 6630M ran LFS at 100+ FPS minimum on the highest settings. On this great machine, I could chose AMD from AMD's CCC driver exclusively. No need to play around with the Bios or get 3rd party CCC driver. The Inspiron 5537 junk didn't have any options on its BIOS to play around with Switchable graphics.

While nosing around before buying, I looked at MSi CX61 2PC. It had Intel Core i7 4th Gen Quad Core (4702 MQ) clocked at 2.20 GHz, 8 GB Ram, nVidia GeForce 820M with 2GB Ram, 1TB HDD Sata 5400rpm (same as the junk above). I tested LFS on it. Ran on intel first, but I could chose nVidia. LFS ran at 100+ minimum on the highest settings. I wanted to get it, but went with Dell at the end.

I did some research before I got the Dell about MSi. Mostly good reviews for that model, but from international sites. The one I saw had a different chasis to the one I researched, the sticker mentioned nVidia GeForce GT 820M (This doesn't come as a GT apparently), and the seller sounded like he was about to sell a dummy. I went with Dell (brand wise) and because I had used Dell before as mentioned. The problem we have here is that there are no authorized dealers (some claim; can't trust 'em), and they assemble laptops and try to rip people off with 20-30,000 profit.

Desktop isn't an option, because of load shedding - the art of producing not enough electricity in the country, and the awesome surprise of an instant blank screen, which can happen at any given time. UPS prices make desktops even pricier than laptops. Laptops are good for work too.

I've also seen an Inspiron 5437 with everything same as the junk above, but with nVidia GT 740M 2 GB DDR5, but it's out of stock.

Should I get the MSi CX61 2PC or the GT 740M version of Inspiron 5437? Highest resolution for all 3 cards is 1366 X 768. Same with my sibling's version. All other brands are much pricier on just i5 with no GPU. Sorry about the rant.

I'll appreciate a few words of genuine help. Please don't troll.

Hello,

I'm reporting a problem after installing patch 6F. Alt+Tab usually sent me to desktop. I'm getting a blank, black window now, requiring a hard reboot. Happened twice already. Any solution? System specs are pasted below:

Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
Motherboard: Dell System Inspiron N4110
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, build 7601)
Central Processing Unit(CPU): Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz
Physical Memory X 2

Hard Disk: WDC WD5000BPKT-75PK4T0 (465.76GB)
Video Card X 2
Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
AMD Radeon HD 7650M
Monitor X 2
Default Monitor
Generic PnP Monitor
Audio Device X 3
Intel(R) Display Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio
Network Adapter
Local Area Connection - Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller (Connected)
Wireless Network Connection - Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 1030 (Media disconnected)
Keyboard: Standard PS/2 Keyboard

Note: GPU is set to use AMD, rather than let system decide to use either power saving (Intel) or High Performance GPU (AMD). Had run LFS using this setting without problems. The only reason I don't use let the system decide, because the system would use Intel anyway (no anti-aliasing).

New idea for a skin based on aviation. Lots of directions are still possible. Maybe add few design elements; remove some, do a civil aviation and military version, etc. Will polish and add textures later. Your critiques and suggestions are most welcome. I'm also doing a FBM version. Using the same concept in GTI cars will be tough; they're boxes mostly. But it would be more challenging. Let's see where it'll go.

It's different for everyone. I used to drive with the virtual steering on, but without the driver for some time. I got used to it. Then, I put the driver on and had to get used to the driver's hand animation when I turned, because the default cockpit view on cars like FBM don't look quite right. The driver appears to be sitting too far back and almost stretching to reach the steering wheel.

I zoomed in a bit and it was better, but still not ideal, because the mirrors go beyond the screen if you zoom in to the point where you think you're sitting in the right place. I also raced without the virtual wheel and driver, and got used to that too. It all depends on what reference one uses. The early hiccups with, without the driver and virtual wheel, I think, have to do with counter intuitiveness about where you're sitting, driver animation, virtual wheel movements, etc. Ultimately, we all use the road and our relative position with the road as reference.

One big disadvantage with keyboard input for throttle, brakes is that you've got to mimic lifting and braking by intermittent dabs on the throttle and brakes, which will unsettle cars sometimes. It slows you down also. Light and steady input on pedals would, in theory, make cars more stable and fast. Keyboard input also has an advantage in that you don't get any penalty for depressing the pedals too quickly, too much. No such thing.

Mouse steering is better than keyboard, and again there are advantages and disadvantages to this compared to wheels. It's very tough to recover from a spin on faster cars, because you're using one hand and shaking it sideways on a table. On the bright side, mouse steering doesn't tire you physically. A good, wheel, however, makes life fun. I have a wheel, which has input lag from the 50s, 180 degrees total rotation, and the brake and throttle pedals are just big depressible buttons. Once you touch it, it's either full throttle or full brakes. Waste of springs lol. The only car I've been able to drive and enjoy life as a result is the mini cooper from GT Legends.

Peace be upon those who don't have the G27!

But, at the end, if anyone can get past the difficulties with any given input device, life is going to be fun, no doubt!
