Idk what the legal minimum for insurance policies in the UK are, but in the US, all you need legally is liability. As in: you only pay for damage to other people's properties.
I have been through a bunch of cars even though I am currently 18. I would recommend you go out and get a real clunker for a first car to learn manual and learn to drive without many luxury items, driving aids, or performance.
Then, when you step into a modern car, you will be a much better driver, as you were used to a car with much shittier handling (I used a 1989 Mercury Tracer 5 speed wagon, I think that's a Mazda 323 or Ford Lazer wagon in Europe).
I just sold a lot of my stuff (including my Miata and 740 turbo wagon) and working hard to pay off this brand spanking new Jetta TDI wagon! (my daddy helped me a bit with the down payment too)
It's pretty much the only diesel car sold in America with a manual transmission. And I love wagons, so yeah.
Just wondering, why the frick is the 335d wagon sold in America?! and why is the 335d sedan only available in auto?
A) I would get the Mugen four door Civic Si (don't worry, I wouldn't spend 30k [20k English pounds] on an FF) over this Astra. But it still looks nice, white is by far my favorite color for a car, all white is awesome. Just would be a PITA to clean.
B) Best sounding four banger is a Subi WReX boxer. Best when mated to a straight pipe and rice cannon tip (preferably a Blitz nur spec..). A beefy weed whacker on steroids is pure awesomeness.
Fast and the furious 4, can't find it anywhere online, but since it came out just yesterday, I downloaded a DVD torrent (probably from the dark reaches of Asian or Central Euro internet).

I believe in grip, and when my tail comes out, I tend to just do an exaggerated countersteer to bring the nose into the tail's line.
When I do wipe out, I do a "reverse" countersteer where I steer into the direction where I came from and try to get the front wheels to grip and "whip" the car back on track.
But after seeing the video, I do see how it can help me recover faster then a "reverse" countersteer if I do wipe out. I will be trying that out the next time I am online.
But that would be only for emergencies when I am facing the way I came ect. As for scrubbing off speed.. I don't use the tire's lateral traction to slow down, too wasteful.
This is all correction stuff, and never meant to be intentional. I don't like how people try to justify it and say that they use it to scrub off speed, reminds me of people who try to justify drifting as a competitive driving style. How they try to use offroad rallying as an example as an example where drifting would get you a faster time. Though.. No, not really, not at all.
When I hang the tail out, I do it because it is cool, and it is fun to do, it is rowdy. I don't try to justify it, I just say I am having fun.

Mmmm... I never said that my Miata is a monster Miata... I never modified the engine... the engine is still the same old 1.6 pumping out about 80 horses... I only upgraded the brake pads to ceramic.
Well, since the last time I posted, there has been several snow storms here in Washington recently, blame global warming.. It has been impossible to drive...
I got my Dad's Lexus ES stuck at the bottom of my neighborhood... and yesterday I got my Mom's Volvo stuck in a ditch... but I got it out by digging. I ended up going to a dinner party last night with my friend, I got to drive my friend's 1993 Jetta TDi. I thought VW diesels were supposed to be very torquey, It seriously lacked power.

I actually don't smoke that much because I am a swimmer, and I don't really want to throw away my brain cells...
Marijuana feels really good while you smoke it, I feel like I am a in a jacuzzi with jets all around me and inside me, and I get all happy, it feels good... But it's just the after effect that makes me not use it regularly. I become really stupid and dopey and slow for about 3 days at a time.
Same deal with alcohol for me. I view weed and booze the same way.
But the one drug I do abuse constantly is Caffeine.
Well, the Miata shares the weight specs Displacement vs Weight of many econo cars... (I hypermile to offset my environmental guilt about racing...) So I am just a dangerous driver all the time...
