Quote from E.Reiljans :Fun fact: most of Metro haters haven't even used it (for more than couple minutes).

I just think most people are apprehensive of change. Personally, I love the metro interface; makes me feel like it's the next step in human pc interaction, of course morons will debate this as well...........

Quote from CheerioDM :Sweet. What is that keyboard? It looks like it would feel good for gaming. Reminds me of my Alienware keyboard I have on another system.

Nice ducky you got there. Wanted a shine myself but hate the disco lights; bought a Razer Blackwidow and going to order a Das kayboard with MX browns before college starts. Cherry MX blues are loud as hell at night. Wanted to get a Dell U2711 I got at work but was tight on budget so bought a korean one with same panel. Surprisingly with minor calibration from a friends spyder it looks good if not better than the Dell at work and has no anti-glare coating which makes the text a lot sharper and contrast better.

A slight update. Ditched the 5870 in favor of 2 560ti's in SLI and added another fan for pull and noise levels haven't changed much. Now runs 32 idle 55 load. Was concerned of over-loading my silverstone psu but borrowed a killawatt meter and measured system power usage to about 600 watts. So a 650W is borderline minimum for sli setups. FYI both cards are oced to 900/1800/1050 and temps are about 38 idle 60~ish on load.

Note: load tested with furmark and no crashes so all good and dandy .

EDIT: He is right about the minimum psu. 650 or above recommended

I think we'll get something next year since both AMD and intel are bundling asetek's newer cooling tech on their Enthusiast platforms as optional equipment. The market wants to adopt the hybrid setups. It's still shit though because you still will end up running a 2 fan or 4 fan push-pull setup to get good cooling performance. I will have to invest into a regular water cooling solution for sandybridge-e next year.

cooling performance depends on a lot of factors than what type of cooler you choose. Things from ambient temps. from both case and room, cpu overclock in terms of how much volts and bclk you push through. I can get lower temps. by getting better, quiter fans and by setting up the h60 for push-pull but cooling all depends on what target temps. you want to be happy with. Core i7's aren't the type of chips to be kept at reasonably temps you really have to experiment with cooling solutions to get the right target temps' fwiw I don't need to keep idle my cpu chilly, I just wanted the load temps to not exceed above 66 at close to 4.0 (which i am thinking of pushing to). At the moment my chip likes higher volts to stay stable hence the somewhat high idle temps. (1.31 vcore and ridiculously high vtt of 1.29). To add to the noise though; the noisiest thing in my case is my 9800gt and 5870 in that order.

EDIT: it's quite careless to tell people X type of cooling is better than Y when people need a specific type of solution not a comparison. Also I still think the mass market water-cooling-in-a-box can mature more and fill in the gap between high end air and full blown water cooling setups.

EDIT2: My room temp. is also hot btw. due to another desktop I use to crunch polys for 3ds max (dual xeon workstation)

Seeing that it's for light work, I'll still go for a descent card like AMD radeon 5750,5770 or if it's from NVIDIA then 550ti is in that price point(no clue as to how much green ones cost in your place). Those should be good enough for anything heck even heavy gaming. You can look for lower ones too like 5450 or gtx 4XX series ones; there are a lot of options to choose from so look wisely.

iTunes is the worst optimized piece of garbage I have ever used. I did a comparison of userspace it takes up to keep itself running. I loaded foobar 2000 with 38 gb (all of my music including FLAC versions) and itunes with 26gb music. load tested them by making a simple script and shuffled songs constantly for 5 mins. Foobar 2000 maintained btw. 100-105mb (my own sets of plugins) and itunes kept bloating to 900mb and stopping there and kept using cpu resources btw. 1-10% on audio buffer flushes and album art loading and software audio sampling. Foobar falls into the ASIO output which used 0-1%cpu on song changes.
So who has pre-ordered Homefront

I am just in a dilemma of whether to get homefront or not. Crysis 2 is pretty tempting but I am scared that it's going to be a console port by the looks of the previews and crytek cocked up. I have hopes for homefront but some of my co-workers and friends think it's just a generic FPS with UAV's. Please share some opinions about this before I splurge on these games.

it's pure for win7. Look it up from deviantart. Foobar 2k is the most resource friendly app I ever used. should be getting about 40-60mb with the silent night skin and other plugins to your liking.

EDIT: attached mem usage, and notice no cpu usage when playing song if you use wasapi or ASIO to get exclusive control of sound card (i have an auzentech X-Plosion 7.1 cinema optical out to receiver with own speakers)
EDIT2: I do use other resource hog plugins so yours will be different

Oh, even that is possible. It can rename, move and copy to different folder, edit id3/2 tags etc. etc. with additional plugins. Look up silent night skin on Deviant art and you'll see exactly what it can add.

EDIT: got my lazy ass in and found the link for ya http://browse.deviantart.com/c ... q=silent%20night#/d2k323j

yeah you can define whatever parameter you want to sort into. I chose by album and folder name, you can choose artist, year, genre, even folder names. If there is a parameter you want to sort into, it can do it

Hmm... I've had the same issue. It's a two part thing
1.) Had bought a pioneer aftermarket stereo that was built for ipod and my VW jetta had a voltage issue which caused finicky charging on my 32gb iphone 4. And since the unit was built before iphones, the voltages were insufficient but I asked my friend who worked at a local car repair shop to add a few caps to raise the volts to 5v and added a regulator of some sort(not really good with electrics).
2.)The Amp output was also low btw. Iphone 4 requires 1A to charge properly(you can see the amps in the wall charger itself). So I went back to my bud to get that fixed too.

bottom line: Low volts+low amps+shoddy car volt spikes= unhappy Iphone.

BTW mine did the same thing OP's Iphone had done.

edit-Forgot to add one more thing. After the spikes the iphone's battery drained unusually. Since I bought it from Canada, thought they would not honor the warranty but they did. Got a new replacement but still unlocked :3. Check if your battery lasts the daily life-cycle you normally put it through.

edit-2 mine has applecare extended warranty fyi.

I recommend eac3to for audio conversion(free) or DbPoweramp (paid) but the latter is much more refined and you can pretty much have full control on both software's. Also if you want to remux on other formats TsMuxer is a good one click bet. You should also check out MultiavcHD from deanbg down in doom9 forum I believe, that thing is a swiss army knife for hd content authoring, converting etc.

EDIT: forgot to mention eac3to standalone is a cmd batch one but there is a gui version on the same post in doom9 forums
