AutoX Maze?

Whilst producing one of my recent layouts (AU1_A-Maze), I thought 'what would it be like if I made real maze?'.

All you need to do is make up grid pattern, put invisible, restricted area marshalls around a winding path, leave drivers to drive in one side, and see if they can drive out other side.

Once basic grid system made up, very easy to make up multiple layouts with different paths.

Last in my Scaletrix series of layouts....

Probably not enough curves, but 10R is probably best of these 3 for drifting.

Short AutoX single lap sprint with some long straights, few turns and chicanes.

And slightly altered layout.....

Haven't worked out if the perimeter or infield route is quickest.

Short AutoX layout with multiple ways to get round - or lost!

When I say short, I mean sub 24 second lap in BF1 with rolling start.

Didn't work all the permutations out, but there's at least 14 different routes.

At least with this layout, if you have a lot of cars on track, you might be able to find a way round without getting baulked by slower car on one of the sections.

Was running on my server, and I collected 140 timed car/driver lap times - see attached for who got top spot for each particular car.

added large chicane.

Added Reverse route too, in case you want to try large chicane going in opposite direction. Had to move start/finish line, distance markers, etc.

And yet another version....

This one a bit more old school. For those that want slightly more than just an oval but don't want a layout that's too fiddly. Maybe just something they can blast round in a BF1 for instance, trying to knock hundredths off their personal best.

Layout set for 2 laps (as it helps to work out where to put sector splits), but simple enough to edit and change into as many laps as you want.

You could ask how any of the other non-Merc engine team drivers stay motivated after having a year of being lucky to get onto the 3rd row of the grid at best, and fearing 2015 will be more of the same?

Likely he wants to compare himself to Captain Haddock. If Alonso is considered one of the best F1 racers ever, and Button can beat him, then Button is likely to retire (when it comes) on a high.

Don't think he'll do as bad as Kimi.

The thing about asking for advice, is, ultimately, you decide whether you take it or not. But if you are going to ask for advice, its not such a good idea to pee them off with your attitude.

Now if you'd come back and said something like "seems a bit daft upgrading the 9 version when I already have 11 installed, but it's unlikely to do any harm as LFS doesn't work anyway, and you never know, maybe you're right, and I gave it a go, and....".

Or not.

My new advice - and you can take it or leave it - re-install windows, install every single update, then decide if you want to have FC4 or LFS on your pc and install only the one, or....
...hope the new install has fixed everything and install both.

Or not.

Or try FC4 forum and see if anyone else has had the same issue with older dx running games and how did they fix it.

Or not.

Simple. Take the offered advice.

Or not.

Continue to pee people off.

Or not.

Alternatives to your original layout....

- Layout 2 is really just a change in the barriers and addition of route checkers and restriction areas compared to your original layout.

- Layout 3 has extra section after Sector 1 marker - in case you miss the braking point for the proper turn.

- Layout 4 as per layout 3 but I've put a start position in for single player hotlapping.

I'm currently using Layout 4 on my server (Sin'rs) for a 3 lap sprint. Track is quite short (I've managed sub 50 secs in a UF1), but I've already seen someone use the extra section I made after Sector 1, thinking that was the proper route, which I thought was quite funny. And the reason I put it there in the first place.

I did so with this message, and the final result was a mess.

Is this a competition for guessing the rest of the sentence correctly?

If so, what's the prize?

My guess would be "jiffy".

You've probably changed your settings when you entered the 'List of Hosts' screen.

Make sure you are looking at 'All' servers, and not something like 'Race'.

More layouts based on same basic design.....

Layouts 3 and 4 very similar - I just moved chicane a bit.

For those that are able to drift, the layouts should be ok.

I read what you had about dx11, but does dxdiag actually say you have dx11 installed, and on the 'Display' tab, does it show 'no problems found' in the Notes section at the bottom?

The other question would be; did LFS run ok before you installed FC4?

Maybe that's the failsafe for cutting the engine?

I've seen a few Grand Prix were the drivers were told off for using brake and throttle together, but that's probably just because the driver has had his foot sitting on the brake pedal not realising it's been pressed down slightly. And likely some drivers in some circumstances will drive with full throttle but still brake slightly in bends and corners to help with load transfer, etc.

Maybe deliberately pressing both fully together is the trigger for the cut-off.

Run dxdiag to see which version of dx you have.

Normally you get updated directx via windows updates, or its usually bundled with all the big games.

Another Blackwood layout, but much bigger than my previous one.

Given it similar name, although this one is for BL1Y.

Easy enough to copy and rename as BL1R and/or BL1X if you want these layout configurations.

Run this layout on my server as a 5 lap sprint, but very few people bothered to finish all 5 laps, so now set as 3 lap sprint.

Best times recorded shown in images ...

... 1 image shows the fastest time for each car ,and other image shows top 18 quickest laps overall.

If you're wondering why my times are shown in different background colour to other drivers, its because my insim ('lapper') shows the person viewing !top list in lighter colour - makes it easier to spot your own name.

For a bit of fun, made a small cruise layout for Blackwood Reverse.

Small - for those only used to doing short journeys or haven't got all day.

Includes roundabouts, crossings, pedestrian 'islands', areas marked out for Bank, Market, Post Office, FedEx office, etc.

Really nice layout, which I really like.

However, few things...

...if I was to use this on my server, a lot of drivers would just ignore the chicane near the end (before the hairpin), by crossing the checkpoint and immediately swerve right ignoring totally the first turn by heading for the second. They would also shortcut some other corners.

This is especially true where you use an InSim to record lap times. Most drivers will follow your route, but some will just want to show on top of score sheet, and so will try find where they can cut corners.

On open layouts like this, best to use invisible marshalls to stop drivers cutting corners too much, and to use route markers to make sure they actually follow the route you meant (see attached example).

Also, if using checkpoints on open layout, why make them so big? This allows drivers to take routes outwith track and still hit checkpoint. Use the W and E keys to make them just wide enough to cover width of track.

If running out of objects, where you have a long wall of long barriers, try swapping some of them for the longer armco barriers. You could try barrier - armco - barrier - armco - barrier, etc. If you used them at the spawn point leading to the your start, you could save about 4 objects (some of which [speed humps] I've used at the first chicane corner [in first image]).

Hope you didn't mind the comments I made!

Just watched the race someone uploaded onto Youtube - quite exciting, and way better than the 1st race in China.

Bit silly that the organisers picked the same weekend as the final F1 race.

Was hoping the women drivers would do better this race, but not to be.
