All-Wheel-Drive Winter Series 2021 - information

The winter is coming,in northern part of Europe it means snow and slippery road conditions as a result of snowing. What's the best way to have fun in this cold season? Pack out your all-wheel-drive car and go to a lonesome icy road or frozen lake! This is how the idea of this league has born - take LFS's both all-wheel-drive cars, use modified road sign "Slippery road" as logo, plan a callendar to have a nice variety of racing experience and here we go - it's time for:

All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2021

The decade season will offer a 6 rounds season, using each car in 3 rounds. As always a wide variation of tracks is used including short rallycross track, street course in an urban environment, support roads track and high speed ovals, meaning driver have to master very different conditions to become a true AWD cars based series champion! 9 seasons have brought 9 different champions to the league, which shows that it's difficult to stay on top of this challenging championship. To spice things up a notch, small money prizes have been reintroduced to AWS as an award for the effort.

This will be partially a year of returns, including 2 rounds run every single of the previous 9 seasons. First of those is the race in South City's streets - again a season opener NewYear City Challenge will be run in darkest available lighting conditions, this year using FXR in the Town Course configuration. Round 2 is a return of a track used only in previous 2 years - back then it was a 100 laps race with FXR called SuperX 100,this year distance will be reduced to 80 laps and run with the more apropriate RB4 and will carry the name Jamaican Trophy. Each half of the season will finish in a high speed oval this year - 1st half will be a return of Rockingham 150,which was hosted in 2017,just like back then, also this year it will be run with RB4. Blackwood RXGP has been off the schedule just once,so it's still considered as the classic of AWS - the FXR run on Blackwood's Rallycross configuration, this year in normal direction. Final RB4 appearance in the season in 5th round will be Westhill Street Cup - as always it's a different layout for this round, this year the 9 kilometers long Westschleifenring will scare drivers with highspeed configuration where each mistake can destroy a race. Winter 200 is the only round used as season finale more than once,so it's very traditional way to finish an AWS season in the Kyoto oval running FXRs,so why not also in the decade season?

Kinda ironic that in the decade season AWS is returning to day it started - to monday! The season starts in very first monday of the new year - in 4th january and will be run with gap of 2 weeks between rounds until mid march. Also starting times have been slightly changed - event will start half an hour earlier in 18:30 UTC!

Series schedule:
04.01. Round 1 - NewYear City Challenge (FXR @ South Town Course, 44 laps / 107km)
18.01. Round 2 - Jamaican Trophy (RB4 @ Fern Bay RallyX Green, 80 laps / 60km)
01.02. Round 3 - Rockingham 150 (RB4 @ Rockingham Oval, 64 laps / 151km)
15.02. Round 4 - Blackwood RXGP (FXR @ Blackwood Rallycross, 41 laps / 75km)

After round 5,no new sign-ups will be accepted. In last round only drivers received at least one point in standings will be allowed to participate!

Timetable:
18:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET
- 20 minutes of qualifying
19:00 UTC / 20:00 CET / 21:00 EET - race start

Special notes on qualifying:
* In rounds 3 and 6 hotlap qualifying will be used, this means there will be no specific lenght of qualifying session, every driver will run alone and have outlap and 2 hotlaps. Qualifying order will be determined by points standings - the highest ranked driver will start his qualifying run last, lowest - first. Race start will be approx. 10 minutes after qualifying.
* If there is no max allowed grid (40 cars),Drivers Championship top 10 drivers will be allowed to start from end of the grid if came late and missed qualification - noone else will be allowed to start without qualifying. In round 1 this top 10 will be taken from last season's final standings.
- To qualify for the race drivers have to set a laptime during qualifying session within 112% of best laptime of the qualifying session. This does not affect championship's top 10 drivers as they may start the race without qualifying or with laptime outside 112% of best laptime.

Championships:
AWS Drivers Champion - awarded to a driver with the most points scored through all 6 rounds, including attendance bonus points
AWS FXR Master - awarded to a driver with the most points scored through 3 rounds run with FXO GTR (rounds 1; 4 and 6)
AWS RB4 Master - awarded to a driver with the most points scored through 3 rounds run with RB4 GT (rounds 2; 3 and 5)
AWS Cross Challenge Winner - awarded to a driver with the most points scored through 2 rounds run in rallycross tracks (rounds 2 and 4)
AWS Oval Trophy Winner - awarded to a driver with the most points scored through 2 rounds run in oval tracks (rounds 3 and 6)
AWS Rookie of the Year - awarded to a driver, who hasn't started a single AWS race before this season, with the most points scored through all 6 rounds, including attendance bonus points
AWS Teams Champion - awarded to a team with the most points scored through all 6 rounds (team will score finishing points from it's 2 highest finished drivers and all round bonus points)
AWS Nations Cup Winner - awarded to a nation with the most points scored through all 6 rounds (nation will score finishing points from it's 2 highest finished drivers and all round bonus points)

In all championships - in case of a tie, higher rated will be driver/team/nation with highest finishing position,if equal - it's amount,if equal - second highest position etc. If all finishing positions happen to be equal, higher rated will be selected using same system from qualifying results. If they also happen to be equal then as a tie-breaker will be used last round finishing position. In case a tied driver had a disqualification in one or more rounds,it counts as a primary rating lowering factor, when deciding tiebreak.

Rules:
We will not make a mile long rule book that noone will read completely anyway,so we will rely on common sence of competitors to behave and follow the basic Rules of Clean Racing. There will not be an admin in server who will specifically observe drivers' behaviour during the race. If any incidents reported/protested,we will take individual approach to each of them to decide best resolution or punishment if needed.

Basic guidelines as a reminder:
> Blue flag - you may not deny/block a passing manouvre of laping car and try a repass right after it. In qualification it means - stay off racing line and don't disturb drivers on hotlap.
> Shortcuts - 2 wheels on track at all times. Track is mostly marked by white lines, rumble strips or at least defined by paved surface, while also curbs count towards track. Overtaking outside track (for example in Kyoto oval on apron) counts as illegal and will be penalized in case of protest.
> Pit exit - allthough there will be no mandatory pitstop in this league, pit exit lines will have to be respected! Everyone caught crossing pit exit lines with more than 2 wheels will receive 10 seconds penalty added to finish result. In round 3,which is held in oval track also pit entry must be respected - driver have to enter pits on apron before final turn.
> Chatting - it's not completely outruled, but still drivers are expected to concentrate on racing. In case of too much chatting while ignoring messages asking to cease chatting,a penalty may be given. In case of any abusive/offensive language a penalty will be given! Non competing observers may not use chat at all!
> Lags - if there are any connection issues, driver will be asked to improve (close internet using programs). If driver will be considered as dangerous due to unstable connection,he will not be allowed to participate.
> Button clutch - is forbidden! Manual clutch is allowed only in combination with H-Shifter. Everyone caught using it will be penalized for unsportsmanlike behaviour with increased penalty for every next offence.
> Hacks/cheats - if used, you will not race with us. Ever. As simple as that.

Possible penalties:
> WARNING - any minor infraction that needs to be noted without penalty. Warned driver might receive bigger penalty for other infractions.
> 10s added to finish time - minor infractions, like illegal passing, pit exit line violation, chat misconduct.
> 30s added to finish time (1 lap penalty in rounds 2; 3 and 6) - medium infractions like causing avoidable incident[s] without serious consequences or unsportsmanlike behaviour, illegal passing.
> 60s added to finish time (1 lap penalty in rounds 1 and 4 / 2 laps penalty in rounds 2; 3 and 6) - medium infractions like causing avoidable incident[s] with consequences to other drivers (like affecting damage, multiple position loss) or unsportsmanlike behaviour.
> Disqualification for 1 or more rounds - heavy infractions, multiple incidents, unsportsmanlike behaviour. After serving disqualification, driver will automatically carry a "warning" for the rest of season.
> Series exclusion (including ban for any other events run under Race Green Events control) - serious infractions like intentional/revenge wrecking, event sabotage and any other malicious act.

Championship spreadsheets

The decade season of Race Green Events' winter league All-wheel-drive Winter Series has been finished already few weeks ago and now it's time to sum it up. As always some stats will be provided first and alltogether this season was a success as both attendance and competition was high despite difficult and challenging combos AWS usually offers. Something did not change - there is still no repeated champion of the series and 10th season brought us 10th different drivers champion. A total of 49 drivers signed up (15 more than in previous season and 1 more than all time highest of inaugural series season in 2012),39 of them actually took part in at least one round (increase of 7 compared to last season, increase of 2 compared to all time highest of inaugural season). 9 of the 39 competitors did not score a single point - 30 points scorers through out the season is repeated series record from 2015. 11 drivers attended every of season's 6 rounds,2 missed just one round. Attendance ranged from 26 in first two rounds to 16 in round 4 - all 3 rounds of first half of the season were better attended than previous single round attendance record of 1st round of season 2015 (20 drivers). Average attendance through out the season was 21.1,which is marginally better than 16.7 of season 2015. Unfortunatelly with more drivers comes more mess and 4 drivers managed to earn a disqualification, which is twice as more as in 2012,let's hope this particular statistic will improve in future.

AWS 2021 Drivers Champion: S1DUS*R.Kardol
After 9 years of Baltic sea region reign in this league, this was the 1st season with champion from other part of Europe - Netherlands. R.Kardol scored his 1st AWS win in 2nd round of the season and took lead in standings, which he never gave up,underlining his bid for title with 3 straight wins in 2nd half of the season - he did not score just 1 point of maximum possible in last 3 rounds. 4 wins,2 different other podium finishes,3 pole positions and 3 race fastest laps - achievements needed to claim series title with convincing 20 points gap. This was R.Kardol's first full AWS season - he attended 3 rounds in the inaugural season, representing MTDZX back then.
The all time winningest driver of this league and 2017 Rookie of the Year Dzidoris finished 2nd in final standings for the 2nd time in row,3rd time in total, while it's his 4th season total podium in 5 seasons. This season the lithuanian collected his 8th league racewin to become sole most winningest driver, scored another 2 different podium finishes and finished 4th in other 3 rounds, setting fastest lap in the round he won. The 2019 AWS champion Sobis finished 3rd in final standings, which is his 3rd overall podium, his season was winless and he scored just one podium finish, but he had consistant high place finishes (2 times 5th and 3 times 6th) to score plenty of points for good final position - the lithuanian scored his 1st AWS pole position this season. The defending series champion Botsi attended just 3 rounds, won 1st of them and finished 6th in final standings.

AWS 2021 Rookie of the Year: GRT climbs
Competition for this title was not very high ranked this season as the best newcomer clinched just 11th position in overall standings, but he deffinitelly had to work for it - the austrian raced hard in the new series for him and broke into top10 twice in most competitive season of this league.

AWS 2021 FXR Master: S1DUS*R.Kardol
The main champion's performance was high in all variating competitions,so besides main title,he collected all other possible awards - in rounds with FXR he won twice and finished 2nd in season opener, his advantage over 2nd position and defending award winner Dzidoris was 15 points.

AWS 2021 RB4 Master: S1DUS*R.Kardol
In rounds with RB4 R.Kardol also scored 2 wins and additionally a 3rd place finish, but had just 5 points advantage over 2017 RB4 Master Dzidoris, who scored the remaining win in this minor competition. Defending award winner Botsi joined in just 1 round, where he finished 4th despite starting from pole position and took 10th place in standings.

AWS 2021 Cross Challenge winner: S1DUS*R.Kardol
Winning both rounds automatically scores the award - so did R.Kardol,as he did not score just 1 from 34 possible points. Despite winning both rounds,R.Kardol's advantage was just 7 points over Unite, who finished 2nd in both rounds. Defending award winner Trespasser did not sign up for this season.

AWS 2021 Oval Trophy winner: S1DUS*R.Kardol
This was the closest finish of all R.Kardol's awards - he won 2nd of 2 rounds to take the lead in standings for this award,Dzidoris is 2nd just a single point behind. Also this award was won by Trespasser last season, who did not join this season.

AWS 2021 Teams Champions: Team S1DUS
The main champion's team was on top of the this championship for whole season until 5th round, where defending champions tied the points with season finale ahead - both new and old drivers champions worked together hard to tip over the gold to their side at the end. Team S1DUS scored 5 wins,8 podium finishes,5 pole positions and 4 fastest laps of the race. Defending champions were in positions needed to reclaim the title during final round, but few misfortunes crossed over the plans and Race Green Autosports finished just 2nd in standings, one win,5 podium finishes and 2 fastest laps of the race in account of the hosting team. Master Race car repeated the performance of 2019 and finished 3rd in teams standings with 1 podium finish and total of 7 top10 finishes.

AWS 2021 Nations Cup winners: Lithuania
This is the only successful title defence this season - Lithuania scores the 5th title in row, matching Latvia's performance in first 5 seasons of this league. Just like last year they started the season from behind and chased to take the lead in latter half of the season, winning the title with 13 points gap - 8 more than last year. Lithuanians scored 1 win,5 podium finishes,a pole position and a fastest lap of the race. Finland started their bid for title with a bang, but lost performance in 2nd half of the season - 2nd place in standings for 4th season in row,6th in total. Finns scored a win,2 pole positions,1 fastest lap of the race and a total 4 podium finishes. Sole performance of R.Kardol was enough to put Netherlands on nations podium - best previous result for the country was 6th in final standings last year.

Race Green Events thanks all participants and wishes much success in all other leagues and events they are taking part. We hope you enjoyed racing in AWS and you all get much fun and valuable experience from the races.
Feel free to use this thread and share your experience through out the series!

The prize winners will receive PM during this week!

This is the part of sum up about future plans of Race Green Events - of course the semiweekly RTFR and monthly RTFR XL are going strong thanks to SimBroadcast's promotion, having filled grids latelly in many races,so no changes in this field. Next other event in the making is the 400km of Westhill - a 400 kilometers long endurance race on the public roads around the Westhill's raceway, event is already entered in calendar of this site and few things have to be finalized for event to be announced officially. Due personal time shortage currently the fate of STARL is under question - it was planned to run the series with shortened distances using more traditional tracks, but not everything works out as planned,so let's see what future brings us. The 7th season of VERL is much more likely to happen, but that's stuff for late summer/autumn to be sorted out,so stay tuned for any infos!
