S09-10: Rules

Drivers and Teams,

Attached are the rules for Season 2009-2010. As you may expect, the rules have been strengthened and tightened for this season, addressing many of the complaints made during the last season. All drivers would do well to read over the entire rule set as there are some changes compared to last season.

Rules updated Sept. 29, 2009:

Section 3:
"The GT1 class consists of the GTR class, with the FZR restricted by 35kg to achieve proper balance with the XRR.

The GT2 class consists of the GTR class, with the following intake restrictions: FZR 20%, FXR 23%, XRR 25%."

Section 5:
Changed formatting of the example names to show actual color.

Section 6, first line:
"Teams must produce a distinct car skin for each round of the season. If a team has a car in each class, these cars should be distinct in appearance from one another."

Section 6, next to last line:
"The Masters of Endurance series logo and the appropriate race logo must also be included, each large enough to be visible from track cameras. Skins must be posted in the appropriate round’s skin thread 24 hours prior to the first qualifying session of a given race weekend. Skins should be posted at 2048x2048 pixel resolution."

Section 7.1, moved 4th line to be a part of the second line, like so:
"Each car may run an unlimited amount of laps during these sessions, but may only have one driver on the track at all times. Multiple drivers may be used per car per session, and the fastest lap from the entire team over both sessions will count toward their starting position (barring any penalties)."

Section 7.2.1, second line:
"Races will begin with a rolling start including one formation lap behind a safety car, except in the case of South City Long, where the polesitting GT1 car will act as the safety car."

Section 7.2.3, last line:
"After finishing, drivers should continue around the track on a cool-down lap before returning to the pit lane and parking in a garage stall. The podium finishers in each class should report to the start/finish line for a podium photo."

Section 8, new third line:
"A car must finish the race in order to be awarded points."

Section 9.1, last line:
"Incidents involving gross negligence or misbehavior between car classes may result in more severe punishments, including loss of points, loss of laps, or disqualification, at the admins’ discretion."

Section 9.3, last line:
"Use of an inappropriate skin (wrong round logo, missing logos, wrong number, etc) or lack of a skin will result in a loss of fastest session lap in qualifying, or a DT penalty in the race."

Section 9.4, last line:
"Protests must include a replay of the incident, preferably cut to show the lead-up to and aftermath of the incident."

Section 9.5.2, added line at the end:
"• Use of inappropriate skin in race"
Rules updated Oct.29, 2009:

Section 6:
The license plate is regarded as part of your skin and must contain your team's
tag

If you have a car in both classes you MUST include the class on your plate as
well.

Example: MoE GT1

Section 7.2.1, second line:
Each team's starting driver must be present in the server within 10 minutes of the scheduled start time. Drivers who fail to meet this deadline will start from the rear of their class's grid.
Update to the skin situation:

To clarify the skin posting deadlines, etc, we have instituted a new policy:

1. Teams must post a high-res (2048^2) "qualifying skin" which will be similar in effect to the "media day" skins employed in the leadup to round 1. This skin must include the MoE series logo, the appropriate number plates/sun visor, and the GT2 bumper bar in the case of GT2 cars. It should NOT include the race logo or the driver roster.

2. Teams must post their qualifying skin in the appropriate thread and use it in each qualifying round this season.

3. Raceday skins will be due at the driver confirmation deadline for each given race.

A couple more rules changes are forthcoming for Round 2 and beyond.
Rules changes for Round 2 and beyond:

Section 6: Skins
Substantially reworked to reflect the new qualifying/race skin rules.

Section 7.2.2: Warmup Lap
Added new rule instructing GT2 class leader to keep a large gap to the last GT1 car in order to prevent an inter-class accident at the race start. The admins will direct the GT2 leader, either via the driver's meeting thread or on-server, as to how large of a gap to leave, depending on the track being driven.

Section 9.1: Penalties-General
Added a new rule stating that penalties may be increased in severity for repeated offenses in a given race.

Section 9.3: Penalties-Skins

Edited the rule pertaining to penalties assigned for missing skin deadlines to reflect the new quali/race skin rules.

Section 9.4: Penalties-Protests
Edited the rule pertaining to what must be included with a protest to say that admins MAY request a replay if necessary.

Section 9.5.2: Penalties-Summary of Penalties-DT
Added "Failure to fall to the rear after spinning on the warmup lap" and "Cutting the course to gain an advantage" to the list of offenses that will result in a DT penalty.

Section 9.5.6: Penalties-Summary of Penalties-Loss of Laps (race)
Added "Use of shift-p or shift-s during a race session (-1L per instance)" to the list of offenses that will result in a loss of laps.

Section 11: Miscellaneous
  • Added a rule defining what constitutes cutting the course, and how potential cases of course-cutting will be handled.
  • Expanded upon the rule suggesting the creation of a unique driver profile for MoE.
  • Added a rule stating that suspicious disconnections will be investigated.
  • Added a series of rules defining what ought to be common-sense guidelines for series participation (reporting loopholes, rulings are final, ensure your drivers have read the rules, rules are subject to change).
Drivers and teams,

In light of the results of the first two rounds, we have decided to alter the restriction settings in both classes for the remainder of the season. In order to bring the FZR and XRR into closer competition in both classes, we are putting in place the following new restrictions:

GT1: FZR + 27kg, XRR unrestricted, FXR unrestricted
GT2: FZR 20%, FXR 23%, XRR 24% + 10kg

We feel that these figures will bring the two top cars closer in terms of competitiveness over the remaining races.

NOTE: Teams will have until their first qualifying session for Round 3 to choose a new car if they so desire. As always, teams may skip Q1 if they need more time to decide/prepare. If a team changes car model, rulebook-correct qualifying skins are desired but not required for this round. However, the rulebook-correct race skin will still be required by the usual deadline (driver confirmation).

Thanks for your input and help with this issue.

THIS POST HAS BEEN EDITED WITH SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES SINCE IT WAS ORIGINALLY POSTED:

Drivers and teams,

Due to the possibility of going outside the game to gain an advantage (by using a wheel's profiler software, etc), after review we have decided to ban the use of button clutch with immediate effect. Button clutch may not be used in qualifying or race sessions.

Use of button clutch will result in the loss of all laps by the offending driver, and may result in further penalties if it is found that the driver did not act alone (i.e., if the driver was encouraged to use it by his team).

Drivers will still be allowed to use manual clutch, but must select "Axis" in the Options->Controls menu.

As a shorthand way of looking at it: EITHER "Clutch" must be set to "Axis" in the Options->Controls menu, OR "Auto clutch" must be set to "On" in the Options->Driver menu. In the LFS Stats flags field, this will mean that by your name Flag will say either Clutch (for autoclutch) or AxisClutch (for manual pedal clutch). If the Flag field is empty, we will know that you are using button clutch.

The full rules document will be updated shortly to reflect this change.

Thanks and good luck!
Note: We've made a substantial revision to the rule change directly above this post since it was originally posted. Please re-read.
