lol I had practiced like hell this time and I just couldnt stop the passing parade that was happening to me and finally when I got time to breathe I was so panicking already that I just made a mistake in the chicane Stupid track with a long straight and a corner, a normal track would have several corners so I could drive away in the meanwhile, but this one just sucked

I guess it's just better if You dont practice so much, then it feels more relaxed during the race
Was a good race for me in pool 5 today.

I started 2nd and swapped positions with HorsePower a couple of times, who was in 3rd/2nd. On lap 25 I was finally able to pass t1ger and took the lead (I just couldn't catch his slipstream before, I guess he was usually a lot better coming out of the turns). So the second half of the race was not particularly exciting, but it was a looong and nerve-wrecking strech, nonetheless, because all I could concentrate on was not screwing up. Luckily I didn't screw up, though and was able to slowly pull away from t1ger with a maximum lead of 3.xx seconds. It got a little more exciting towards the end, though, as I had developed a flat spot on the left front tire (the neuralgic wheel all along). So I really had to take it easy for the last 5 laps. It worked out, though and I was able to secure a 1 second lead.

Great race overall, and I think we didn't have any major crashes in pool 5 .

Thx a lot to the team, who did a great job of pulling this event off despite the technical problems with the site beforehand. You guys are marvels!

P.S.: I started first in rounds 1 and 2 and second in round 3 (actually 3rd but lowgoods didn't show up). So, I do feel a little guilty, somehow, but I guess there's not much that can be done about it - it's just how the system works ...

P.P.S.: I already know that I won't be able to race in round 4, which is too bad, as I really like the small GTR's -- and it will be a veery loong pause due to the spring break. The good thing is, that I can potentially get a lot of practice in the FO8, though .

Pool 7 here, was a great race after all. The first 15 laps I had some great battles with Speel[HUN], we exchanged positions a couple of times.
After pitting in lap 25 and driving three more laps without anyone else pitting I was really afraid that noone would ever pit, but the did, luckily.
With some 15 or so laps to go I was third and closing the gap the Vipersweden slowly. Lucky for me, Chicogas, leading from start on had a puncture in lap 47, which lead to the situation of us three going side by side into the last turn lap 49. Chicogas and Vipersweden went wide, so I just had to finish last lap to get my first first
gra! Sensible driving of everyone involved.

Went from absolutely crackingly great to poop in 2 laps!

Had managed to be part of the passing parade on Trudi at the start and work my way into second pretty early, then after a while I was catching Prophet, a few laps later and the busniess was done and the gap was getting bigger, was at ease as all the hard stuff had been done. Then I stupidly lost concewntration when I saw Mr Russ telling Trudi to pull his weenie out.

So I got back out just behind 4th 5th and 6th and was catching them after just a lap, but stupidly went to fast with the hot rear after the spin into the chicane spinning again lol. So I rejoined in basicly last position and saw 2 guys coming, left them room but they hit each other then one of them veered into the side of me, rolling me the god damn over.

Was looking forward to getting the tyres cool and the fuel burnt to see how fast the set would be as I didn't have a chance to do the full race distance before it.

Anyway, pool 1 seemed reasonably clean and sensible, didn't hear of to many crashes except the ones i was in.
Pool 2
ohhhh, when i was in 8th place i lost my car, then the next laps i lost the car again, again and again!.....again!!! when i was in the last place I wanted to be in the .60 rytm without any success, so after the straight, in the chicane, i lost the car one more time and I remained in the gravel (sand) I didnt go to the spectator, "the reset car" bottom too. What i did was still getting out of the sand for 10-15 minutes with success!!!!

Pool 5 for me as well.

I started 1st because lowgoods did not show, and I absolutely hate starting so close to the front (there is less to gain and everything to lose!). I managed to stay in front in the opening laps and actually managed to ease out a gap. I changed my mind just before the race started that I would not pit - hoping that my tyres would last as I had not tested full race distance, and I was hoping so badly that linsen would have to stop. It was around lap 25 that I was concentrating so hard on those behind me, watching for everyone pulling into the pits that I slowed and started getting a big ragged on the two hairpins and this allowed linsen to get past. Well done linsen. Fortunately I managed to hold off Horsepower but just couldn't catch linsen again.

In the last few laps, I noticed you (linsen) was smoking at the hairpins and slowing, but not enough for me to catch you.

2nd is my best ever result in an OLFSL race, so I am delighted, but that one place lost from 1st to 2nd is the most annoying single place I have ever lost!!

Regarding my Pool 9 race..... Total mayhem is the polite way of putting it.

After having issues setting up the stream, I had no practice laps, so just put in 100% fuel and switched to R2 tyres. This just was so totally awful, I had no grip, oversteer and understeer and no speed either, 3-5 seconds off my usual times.

My start was ok (up to 2nd), apart from the poor guys behind to bumped and span after coming near my my oversteery rear end. Carried on for a while, sliding and going slow, in 3rd place suddenly Apple Quicktime decided in wants to do a security update, and LFS minimises (again), so while I quickly tell apple to feck off, my FOX is spinning onto the grass and getting damage.

So maximise LFS again, now down 8th. More slow driving and sliding.

About half way, have a bigger crash and suspension is wrecked, I enter pits to repair and switch to R1's. On my way out of the pit, James knocks me and pushes me above the speed limit, so I get a Drive through penalty (shite).

Anyway, after all that, I put in some quite good laps with R1 tyres and good grip once again.

Just wish I had R1's from the start, I think a top 3 place would've been possible.
Contrary to most people, I liked that combo. It was small and fast, ideal for some real close racing. The only "problem" was that it required experienced racers in order to avoid big crashes. Racers capable of judging where they could and where they could not fire a passing move.

There were two places were an overtaking manouvre could be fired, with big chances to be succesfull:

1) In the first corner, where if you had succesfully slipstreamed your opponent (in the straight) then u could stay in his inside (right side) and outbreak him in the turn in point of the right-hand half of the corner. Then you should keep a tight line for the upcoming left-hand half of the corner, thus diminishing any of his hopes to re-pass you at the exit of the turn.

2) In the last corner, where things were much more simpler, because all you had to do was to take his inside (left side). No need to outbreak him here. You just bardge him just a little bit to the outside, so you can point your apex from a realative open line, so you can go early on the accelarator and pass from the apex fast and tight. You have already ruined both his breaking and accelarating, so he can't re-pass you at the exit (depending on the line you keep and your acceleration start point it's possible for him to slipstream you to the straight following the corner, but if you do it right -and you are bit lucky- he doesn't even have the chance to try that).

In my point of view, any other attempt to pass someone elswhere in the track was way too risky (especially at the chicane) and most probabaly that's the major factor for the chaos I read about in some pools (haven't checked them myself).

Although the pass in K1 is a rather trivial technique in both real and sim racing, it requires some racing experience not only from the attacker but from the defender too. The latter should have the experience to judge when to lift his foot off the gas during the outbreaking procedure, and realize that there's nothing more he can do to save his position. If he pushes it, then 99% the result will be a crash, because the attacker has already blocked the line for the second half of the turn.

If I understand correctly you started your heat, which means DNSH is not applicable here?

POOL 2 results are already done. You got 48 points for DNF (although I have no idea how final these resuts are, so don't quote me).

If you DNF the points are calculated by the percentage of the race that you completed against the pool your were in or something.

Think I get 56 or something for half distance, from about 6 points up to 60 points down.
Sorry pool 5 for not showing up. Unfortunately I had a hardware failure in my real car and in consequence could not make it home in time. A pity indeed...

No worries - It was just a tiny bump, just pushed me 1mph over lol.
Anyway, my bad braking with those awful tyres made you get knocked, I saw that i my replay, so we're even!

I don't mean to be harsh on anyone in particular, but fair is fair, so I have a question/comlaint about pool-1, race03.

We all saw Piiriste getting disconnected in lap 1. But contrary to the rules, quoted above (especially the bold part), he was allowed not only to rejoin the server (the race, actually) but to run many laps under blue flag too. I must make clear that I was not competing in pool-1, but I have suffered disconnections in the past and I was not allowed to rejoin the server.

So, are we all equal under the rules or some of us are "more" equal than others?
If that happened the way you say it, I think you should e-mail Solar Hydro (Appeals Arbiter) about it. If you leave your complaint here in the forum, you cannot expect that there we´ll be a decision about that situation...

I don't want to make an appeal..I don't care who gets the most points..

I just want everyone to be equal against the rules.Fair play is the most important i think.

If they(dev team) want to be fair...they won't need an appeal....

I was waiting for this to come up, heheh.

Yup I was hosting pool one, and did allow Piiriste to rejoin. The reason being I suspected it was a moments lag on my computers part which may have trigged his lagout, a big churn on my harddrive did happen at that point (which may be viewable on the stream if someone recorded it), and so as host, I made an instant decision to allow him back.

There are a number of other factors to take into account.

1) The official stance is to change the server password just after the race starts, to stop latecomers joining the race. Not all hosts do this; I usually do, but forgot on this occasion.

2) As host it is my responsibility to keep the race flowing, if, as I suspected, the lag was at my fault at that moment, it is not the fault of any racers on track, so for someone to be penalised is unfair. If the lag is caused by racers, the effect is shared by everyone, in my belief.

3) I kept a VERY close eye on Piiriste throughout the race, and did advise him on regaining positions, it was shown he was under blue flags, but was considerably faster than all he was driving around, if I felt he was hindering people, I would have acted. Trying to regain positions safely is allowed under our rules.

4) This also happened very early on in lap one, there would never be any chance for restarts of any kind, after lap one.

5) Basically, I made the decision on the spur of the moment, we do have rules, and yes, by the book, Piiriste should not have rejoined, but as hosts we do have room to manoeuvre for 'the good of the sport', if everything was done without any leeway, I think a lot of you would be complaining about that. As I recall, the majority of OLFSL members voted to keep assistance from the pool manager, if you were unable to race in a set pool, being able to race in a later pool would be possible. Many people have been spared DNSH's if they have a fair excuse, again, a lot might argue, until it happens to them that this is against the rules, but as soon as you ever have a problem, you would wish for flexibility and compassion every now and then.

We can either be 100% militarian, or have leeway, you can't have both.

No one is more equal than others, I don't recall ever speaking or racing with Piiriste (I’m one of the slow guys remember!) so I have no personal kinship with him/her. It could have been any pool or any racer, someone in 1st place or last place.

I can't say any more than that, I made the decision, it is not a fault with anyone else at OLFSL HQ - if you are not happy with my on the spur decision, then please feel free to write to Solar Hydro, he as appeals arbiter has power to overturn my decision and take any points Piiriste earned away, if he too thinks I was wrong at this point.

I emailed all fellow staff about this, straight after the event, so it has not been a secret. I'm sure, if another host believed they caused a lagout, or say, accidentally kicked the wrong driver, they would try to reconcile they error, or maybe not, I don't know, let's see what Solar thinks :-)
