I might be able to find some period data on the road cars and _some_ variations of the Group 4 versions. No promises though!
Sad news - Fordman

Some of the longer-time LFS users will remember Shaun Clarke, aka Fordman.
Sadly, last week he passed away due to cancer.

As well as founding Triple7Racing he ran various championships, but more recently was known for some well recieved mods for Assetto Corsa.

I met him a few times at LFS meets, and more recently he popped over to my work to offer networking advice during an upgrade.

Rest in peace Shaun.

Plus they know everything that the others have done from photos, sound analysis, what the team have seen etc etc which is a billion times more data than the manufacturers had 12 months ago. They have a target. Easier to design to a target than it is to design what you think is best and hope that it is better than everyone elses...

So yes, Honda have as good a chance as anyone as being at or above the Mercedes engine.

And I reckon they'll be aerodynamically more on the ball next year too. Could be a good time to be with McLaren.

I guess it's one of the things they added for keyboard players. A shitty unrealistic control method is hardly going to be a realistic and unfettered experience. If they truly allowed digital inputs for steering, throttle, brake and clutch then it would be pretty rubbish.

At first I didn't realise this was a complaint by someone using an inappropriate controller, but now I have, I care even less about his opinion.

Wheel speed, when derived mechanically, is often on the undriven wheels. So burnouts show zero speed.

Turning off assists in the menu turns off the extra assists. But a car with ABS and TC still has ABS and TC unless you turn them off on the car itself. Just like if you don't like ABS in real life, but you a drive a car with ABS you still have ABS.

Remember that the Miura is actually a terrible car in reality. More like a truck or a tractor than a sports car. So it should drive badly. But look stunning.

I didn't say that Susie used sex/marriage to get the F1 drive in a precalcukated fashion. But the benefit of the marriage and sex was the chance to drive in F1, and it had absolutely nothing to do with talent or sponsors. Purely because of who she was married to. It wasn't a masterclass to begin with. I agree that that would be wrong to suggest and would be a form of sexism.

Powell hasn't married the right person AND doesn't have the talent or money to achieve that dream either. She's unlikely to get the talent or the money, so I suggested she should try dating an F1 shareholder. It's been proven to work.

No male, that I'm aware of, has achieved an F1 drive via marriage. Talent, yes. Money, yes. Sometimes both.

Dustin - I don't believe I am. At the absolutely most I'd say equally qualified, but she did have a GP3 drive bought for her (I haven't had that) and she did score a point via a couple of disqualifications. And she did out score me over the 2013 season of amateur club racing, even if I was quicker, had more poles, wins and fastest laps overall. I do not consider myself anywhere near good enough for the proper F3/GP3 championships, let alone GP2, let alone F1. You won't find a single single human being that disagrees with me.

I think Alice bought a WSR3.5 car (well, her granddad did, but I don't have a problem with family funding, as most drivers have had it at some point), and tested it quite a lot, but I don't know how far off the pace she was other than "several seconds".

Alice hasn't. But she could try. It worked for Susie Wolff. No wins. No talent. No massive funding that I'm aware of. Married to shareholder of Williams (at the time). It does seem to suggest that marriage and sex played a rather bigger part than talent... Unfortunately that isn't misogynstic - it's a view of one person based on the available evidence

I'm off to read the Daily Mail comments section!!! Sounds brilliant.

Ha ha, someone (I know who!) mentioned me in the comments. If I - a 33 year old who smokes, doesn't train, doesn't eat healthily, fixes and sets up my own car, doesn't test and has a total budget less than her tyre budget - can beat her some/most of the time, then she clearly isn't good enough to be a professional. Ever. Some might claim it's jealousy, but I think it's the only logical result from looking at the evidence.

Agreed. It would be an insult to every struggling driver wanting to reach F1 if such a talentless person is even granted a superlicence. Maybe she's taking the Susie Wolff approach and using sex to replace talent. I don't any men in F1 circles are THAT desperate though.

Agreed low priority; thanks for clarifying.

Nice! But are you going to do some work on the shadows for the fences? They do look a bit weird just floating there?

At least LFS doesn't have the silly grass/fern stuff. That looks very out of place.

Making my F3 car with the help of several guys overseas. Lots of measurements, lots of data, and next weekend I've got to try and record some vaguely decent audio (which is tricky as I don't have decent audio recording devices).

Need to work on the tyres a bit more, but the laptimes from the released circuits (and a few that won't be released due to legal reasons) are very close at the moment. The refining is what will take the time though, but I think it's already going to help validate my setup for my next race, and has encouraged a few tweaks to the gearing that I probably wouldn't have tried in real life (as I don't do testing).

Just had a bit of a play with this.

Is it possible to invert the force feedback? I'm not 100% sure if that's what I need, but the FFB is definitely very very poor or wrong, and I'd like to try inverting it to see if it helps.

I tried a few cars, and the physics/handling model is decidedly poor. Cars just don't drive like that, either slowly or quickly (in fact at lower speeds [<50mph] the physics are quite frankly embarassing).

I can see why I only play this game for half an hour at a time. It's way more NFS than LFS/AC.

The sounds aren't great. The visuals are nice if you've got the power, but to get an acceptable frame rate I have to turn more off than in AC - it looks a lot worse then.

The weather was nice (it's an impressive model I think), but I didn't do anything other than dry/sunny today (at Spa!).

Maybe they'll improve it next time, but it's a thumbs down still from me. Sorry.

Yup, we've got sounds in our mod too (just been doing some laps to compare data with reality).

Have you ever driven a 458? Why do you think it would be difficult?

I would happily say awesome physics. Not perfect by any means, but damn awesome. Small gripe with latest patch is with rear axle performance on extreme trail braking with standard cars, but I'm sure they'll be resolved soon - probably just a bug or a typo somewhere in the code.

Maybe that explains it - I'm not known for doing much drifting (on purpose).

I like the netcode. I've not had any issues with cars jumping or fake collisions, and yesterdays update seems to have improved it even more - absolute wheel to wheel action confident that I won't get a 'fake' collision. Is it quite as good as LFS's? No, probably not, but it's still very good in my experience.

Haven't edited an AC ini file in about 6 months.

Didn't play for long yesterday.

The mod I'm working on now has no sound, so got to redo that. For the best I guess.
Surprised how quick the The Ferrari is considering how little grip it's actually got, and I enjoyed driving it but struggled to get used to the ship like braking distances it requires.

Spa is a very good recreation. Makes the amateur attempt of Project Cars look terrible (but then Project Cars is pretty damn awful).

The graphics are great, and very well optimised - I can have more details on than 0.22 but a higher, more consistent frame rate.

I haven't tried rFactor 2 yet, but other than that AC is king of the sims by a country mile at the moment. Yes, the multiplayer isn't as accessible as LFS, but the netcode is fairly solid these days. The only 'hits' I had yesterday were actual collisions and not hitting empty space were a car used to be. Sadly the collisions were also all my fault!

There are some things that need to be improved, fixed or added before I'd consider it a true release candidate, but it's not far off now.

Quote from ACCAkut :Interesting touch including the Cobra, if only they had the same helpful attitude towards the rest of the Modding forum, maybe that will come once the 1.0 is out.
All those tools are nice, but proper documentation is missing, or scattered about the forum.

I think they haven't released proper modding documentation because is Alpha/Beta it's subject to change, so they left it with an example car and answering some questions. Aris has been very helpful to a lot of people, and I think better documentation will come with (or shortly after) 1.0.
