Quote from Fuse5 :Just nabbed myself a copy of Ableton Live 8 Lite supplied free by the cross-promotion campaign with Soundcloud (Buying Ableton will get you a free pro account on SC for like 5 months or so)

so yeah basically, free Ableton Live 8 Lite (worth 145€/190$) until may 31st - http://www.ableton.com/free-soundcloud

Time to see if producing a studio mix in this will be a reasonable task from zero knowledge with the DAW T_T
Probable ragequit in 1-2 hours of usage

Suggest Reaper for 25% of the price with a generous trial
25% of free? :P

yeah ive heard good things about Reaper but from a select few, but I have no intention of picking up yet another DAW. I just wanna dabble in Ableton to see if its any easier to compile tracks into a produced mix with
And I suggest you getting ableton 8.2.7... I can give you a nice link about it by PM
@jibber pretty nice chill song you've got there
EDIT: I actually reuploaded one of the songs I posted earlier because the Pod Farm plugin didn't load on one of the channels, now it's all good!

That's the thing, I've tried to get into the Live 8 demo several times now, but I can't make my head around it
Whereas with Reaper it just feels right, and usually everything is under the right mouse button click. It's stuffed to the brim with goodies. I think it sounds better too..
I agree with everything up to 'it sounds better', thats just perception

a DAW is a DAW is a DAW. theyre pretty comparable tbh. Use whatever lets you get your ideas down the best/fastest/most efficiently without the software hindering your creativity. All about the comfort zone imo

There is maths and bit rate involved in summing lots of digital data together and everyone does it differently
TBH I agree with Fuse, the most important thing to me is that the interface is not obtrusive and I don't waste time fiddling with software when I should be making music.

That said, any DAW with a good set of default session templates can be good in those situations where you just want to quickly fire it up and demo a new idea.
Anyone remember the Grand Cathedral theme from the final map in Serious Sam: The Second Encounter?
Well, I though I needed to try make something with Reason (my music program). Problem is that I have not used it much due to military service, but since that now is over I am trying to learn some stuff.

Either way, for the laughs and all that is unholy in this world, I made a cover, which mainly tries to be true to the original.

There are so many wrongs with my cover that I am not going to botter list them all, the guitar is a mess (by some strange reasons it's really A LOT of interference from the laptop and it makes the sound not good), the thing is not in very good sync (since I having problems learning to do good drum things, the keyboard sounds I was looking for I could not find - so therfor something that sounded similar but not close enough to the original >.<

Either way, I need some inputs please
Are there ways to get more... erhm sounds into the program? Feels a bit limited!
Here it is:

Btw, here is the original:

Edit: New version with less disturbance / fuzz in it and tweaked sound ballance.

What sort of scale lengths do they use on 8-string guitars? I've tried a few short-scale basses where the E string doesn't really work very well because it's only a 30" scale, I would imagine a typical guitar scale around 25" would lead to quite a floppy and impractical low F#?

I suppose 30" would make sense. You'd want at least that.

I've got a 41.5" scale bass coming in the post tomorrow. Will post pictures.
Quote from brandons48 :Yeah the 8 strings i've been looking at are 30" scale.

My 7 string is a 25" scale and i've dropped it to G# for a Periphery-esque tone and it's nice and tight with a .056 gauge string on there. So the strings have a part to play in that too, the 8's i'm looking at have a .072 for the lowest string!

This is what i'm looking at; http://www.rondomusic.com/interceptorpro830ebwhite.htm

Oh @TVE, I can't seem to watch that video, says it's taken down? Get a soundcloud account dude!

Goo sound Did you add the drumsection with a program, if so - what?

Yeah I tok it down, felt ashamed when I listened to you other people lol

Quote from brandons48 :I used EZ Drummer with the Drumkit From Hell expansion :P You could try Superior Drummer but that's nearly 20GB compared to the 4GB of easy drummer o_O

Got about 45 seconds of a song now T_T

The drumkit expansion, what program is that for?
Is it an extension of Reason or other musical tools?
There is Metal Machine on the other hand... It's a EZ plugin that is newer than DKFH
You first have to buy EZ Drummer and THEN you can buy Drum Kit From hell or Metal machine as plugin.
See here: http://www.toontrack.com/products.asp#EZLine
I even bought it because it's not really espansive (115€)
The advantage of Superior Drummer is that that you can do whatever you want with your drum sound but if you buy it, it's very espensive ^^
I'll post a Video here so I can show you Metal machine while promoting my own project hehe

I admire the way you manage to get such good drums, I really killing myself here trying to add just the simplest drum rhytms in Reason ;/

Hehe thanks!
But is it possible to create / save the drum beats / recordings in .wav format? If so it would help me a lot since I mainly using the program called Reason - which can import .wav files.
Thx! The only thing I played and recorded is the Guitar. There still lacks Bass (and vocals hehe but that's for later)
I used Ableton Live 8.2.7.
As for VST's I used Metal Machine (EZ Drummer) for drums and mainly Nexus 2.0 for any electronic/ambiant sounds
Here is another one with this time a fake bass (I know it doesn't sound really good it's just here to give an overall idea before I record the real deal).

Quote from KiRmelius :doesn't make any sound on my pc

A friend of mine had the same problem, the other 5 guys who could see that link said it was working fine for them... Dunno what's the problem... Flash or Java maybe?
In some browsers it degrades to a Flash app, but in modern browsers (certainly recent webkit browsers) it's HTML5. And frankly bloody amazing.

If you're using Internet Explorer maybe this is the time to switch...
