Quote from Blade3562 :That simple sentence there shows YOU know nothing about cars. The Volkswagen Jetta in the first fast and furious movie actuallt was a 2.slo aba with a nitrous oxide system and several other parts, several bolt on. But it was faster than the s2k.

There is more technical work and specs done to these movie cars than you wikl ever understand. I bet you didn't even know the chargers used in Fast Five have a specially modified trans/shift points to allow for drifting because the cars wanted to upshift mid drift. I bet you also didn't know the 1970 Chargers in the first move were the only Iines with Mopar motors, but only the hero car had a real blower. However the blowere was hollowed out and was just a fancy air intake. The Chargers used in Fast and Furious and Fast Five were originally planned to have 592 Hemis, but due to parts delays the cara were fitted with 350 Chevrolet Small Blocks so filming could commence. (The garage scene in Fast and Furious was a 592).

The "F Bomb" in Fast and Furious is a real camaro they built clones of. It is a track(circuit machine)

The Road Runner Vin is seen in at the end of Tokyo Drift is called the Hammer. It is a 592 Hemi powered car that develops so much power words cannot explain.

Paul Walker actually was a Skyline fan before any of the movies. I believe only 1 or 2 from 2 Fast 2 Furious was actually a GTR all the others were RWD models built to look like GTRs to save cost.

The 2 Fast 2 Furious Evo 7s were the only LHD ones ever built.

Tokyo Drift used real Veilside display cars and actually payed over 100k for the Hero RX7. They also flew the Holley NOS bike over to Japan for static display in Hans garage.

Watch the movies and then you'll understand. There is actually a lot of car knowledge and effort poured into them. Plus almost all the stunts are real. Not many other modern movies do that!

Thanks for summing up what I hate! Silly nitrous oxide and special transmissions. I don't know what an s2k is. If they wanted to choose shift points, they should have bought a manual car. And then left it alone and learnt how to drive it.

You are the type of person I never talk to about cars because I can't cope with pretending you know what you're talking about.

Nah. They go against everything I like about cars. The modding scene is solely for morons who don't actually know about cars (other than engine code names), and read magazines written by people that don't know about cars.

So no, I won't be watching it. I don't want to encourage stupidity.

All sorts of things! Sometimes you want to be very progressive off the brakes to keep the front end tucked in, other times you need to come of the brakes quite quickly to help rotate the car (induced oversteer, basically).

By coming off the brakes and allowing the front to work (less lateral load transfer, and less tyre saturation), then the back can't always 'keep up', which results in a pointy car (or a loose rear end).

Need to try this update though, especially since the throttle map change. Haven't had a decent chance to sit down and go through the new cars/tracks. Damn it!

The cost cap, if workable, is very important, and should have been done years ago.

Speaking for myself:

Slow road cars are boring for hotlapping.
Computer assisted road cars (MP4-12C, any Skyline) are boring full stop, in reality or simulated.
Cars that are difficult to drive are most fun for hotlapping.

With multiplayer (which, for me, is AI, as I don't have much interest in racing random people of dubious intent) then the whole thing changes, and it's less about "the car" and more about "the race". So the slowest cars in the world often provide FAR better racing than anything quick or difficult. UF1000 racing can be tremendous fun on the right circuit.

Hopefully when multiplayer is added, there will be sufficient interest and sufficient options to enable me to play against people I know with a similar mindset - I don't want to play against people that aren't as serious as me, or are too willing to utilise any unrealistic advantage (e.g. LFS's old ride height aero glitch), because that's not fun for me. The best online racing, since LFS S1 and the early S2 days, was in nKP when it came out, because only the nerds were playing it.

The real thing - because the physics are not anywhere near yet in terms of what the drivers actually have to cope with (track surface nuaces and changes, forces), how little testing you can do in real life (even with unlimited budgets), how long it takes to make changes to the cars, and of course the safety aspect - without ANY danger then motorsport is actually very boring to watch. Of course we don't want to see injuries, but it's the RISK of injuries that adds a certain element of excitement.

Sims are too safe, too easy (you can do a billion miles of testing a day if you don't go into work), and too simple (they can't record the influence of every blade of grass or dust on the track).

As much as I don't like Formula E (there are more interesting ways of creating that amount of pollution and environmental harm), it'd thrash the excitement of any sim series.

Quote from Funnybear :I actually own an e30. Absolutly love it. I've been reading about this game on steam. Is it worth a punt?

I don't want no ISI false sim. I want something that I can take as a spiritual succesor to LFS.

Is this that one?

I am sorely tempted.

Yes.

IRacing, rfactor, gtr, netkar , LFS - all a little bit poo in comparison. Harsh, but true ( although netkar and LFS remain the closest rivals to it).

There are some fairly gruesome images on the net of very burnt people. I doubt he died on impact (they rarely do), but hopefully he was unconscious at the time - ear witnesses do report screaming and shouting, but witnesses are usually the worst at recalling things.

Never watched a F&F film though. They're banned in my house (by me).

Regardless, condolences to his family and friends, plus those of the driver.

Back to Porsches - they made an acceptable but massively flawed car 50 years ago, with the main achievement being relative affordability for x performance. And in the stereotypical German manner, they have diligently worked hard at improving the car, or at least reducing the fact that it's a shit way to build a car in the first place.

Normally, the Germans do manage to engineer character and 'fun' out of cars pretty well, but the Porsche was such a flawed concept they've merely been able to make it "nearly as good as most other cars", and so it retains a certain amount of character which (I admit) most modern cars lack.

That doesn't mean the layout was a moment of inspiration or genius. It doesn't mean it's the best car ever. Popularity doesn't equal brilliance.

I'm for a good simulation of an Porsche, but there are so many better cars that would be more fun in a simulator first.

Oh, I forgot - they also won Lemons a lot because the rules were massively in their favour.

Nice counter-argument though.

On the basis that all Audi have been pretty dull really. Even the Quattro, but I'll accept that it was the best Audi of all time. Yes, they've won Lemons a lot recently, but mostly through a) huge budgets b) by keeping the car boring and c) lack of serious competition.

Didn't much care for most of the brands. 99% of them are just eco-boxes (or chavved up versions to appeal to teenagers and mid-life crisis sufferers).

Mazda - Go no, unless it's a 787B or an MX-5. Can't think of another decent Mazda.
Nissan - Go no. They haven't done anything special ever.
Audi? Ha ha ha.
Lancia - hmmmmm, they pushed the boundaries for years, but only a few are truly iconic. Maybe a Stratos would be nice, or an 037.
Ruf - can't see why anyone would want to willingly drive anything that is or once was a Porsche. Just don't get the appeal in the slightest.

So I voted Radical, as at least they make racing cars (as opposed to converted road cars). I didn't really want to vote, but then again I didn't want chavs winning the vote by asking for 800 types of Skyline in every possibly state of tune.

Don't let the imbecile in you stand in the way of facts.

Australia '12. Spain '12. Singapore '12. Abu Dhabi '12. Plus a couple this year, but they're much harder to read as the car was so so bad at times. Yes, he's driven worse this year, but a lot of drivers over-drive when it's not going so well for them. Hamilton when McLaren were especially poor a few years ago could barely have outqualified Max Chilton

Quote from BlueFlame :Talent? That's a bit generous. He's shown that on 1 occasion he was actually worthy of an F1 seat which just so happened to be a good enough performance to win the race. Every other race he's been wrecking people or been hopelessly shit.

You need to pay more attention. Yes, he's undoubtedly had shit periods. But he's had plenty of "wow" drives. People don't notice them usually if their not on the podium though.

But is a fast, rich dick, and Lotus need cash more than anything at the moment. Doubt he'll win again, but he could mature into a regular podium finisher if they can manage his head - and Enstone have a good record for nurturing 'difficult' drivers.

Quote from Kristi :It's 16/11 indeed. I think 1.30s are easily possible with a bit more of practice.

My brain still works. I was going to check when I got home (incidentally, I was expecting crazy high speed oversteer with 16/11, as I was using ~16/14 before... but it doesn't, it's quite stable. Me no understand.)

Quote from The Moose :Oh, my bad.. I'll dig out the 6/6 setup. That's done low 31's as well.

Lots of ways to skin a cat (none popular with said cat), so driving style will have a lot to say about which setups are good and which aren't.

Is that 6/6 on wings? I tried it yesterday and recall it being more like 16/11. But I might be remembering wrong. But yes, it's a good setup so far. I'm sure more exploits will be found at some point, but at the moment setups are fairly realistic, which is always better. I reckon with practice I could do a 31.0 with it as it stands.
