Quote from the_angry_angel :Yes... Just make sure they use different ports obviously.

That's not working for us. Just one of the servers is tunning although they're using different ports and the are configured that way in the setup.cfg

Is it possible that this is all happening on servers that are running on the same machine?

i.e. 5 servers running in a 500servers machine, one of them works while the other 4 don't. We are trying to set several servers on our own hosting and are having this problem.
Running multiple X hosts on the same machine [solved]

Hi!

We have been trying to set up dedicated servers for our team for a long time using WINE. Now with patch X it seems to be working quite fine, but now we want to run multiple servers on the same machine and we're having problems most likely with the OUTPUT ports.

Lets say these are the ports we have open for two servers:

iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 63392 -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPT
iptables -A INPUT -p udp --dport 63392 -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPT
iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 63393 -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPT
iptables -A INPUT -p udp --dport 63393 -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPT

iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 29339 -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPT

Being the '92' for server #1 and the '93' for server #2. As you see we only have one OUTPUT port open, and having set those ports in the setup.cfg of each server, of course.

The first server is running perfectly, but the rest of the servers (we have now 5 servers for testing purposes) are not. On those servers when you try to connect it reaches "waiting for player information" and then get a "didn't receive a reply" message.

We think that server #1 is using OUTPUT port 29339 which is open, but the other servers are trying to use other ports which we don't know, and which are not open.

That's all the info I have as I'm not the one running the servers - I'm just his spokesperon - So, we'd like to know if there's any special thing we need to do to run multiple servers on the same machine.

I hope the provided info is useful. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Maybe this should be moved to the "technical assistance" forum
I have found out that my computer always uses the same outgoing port 29339 when trying to connect to all the servers yet only the first one works.

EDIT2: We have sorted it out now, it was very stupid mistake like it usually is

Yeah, there are plenty of insim applications and unofficial ad-ons out there. Guess who made those? Yes, the users did.

It has been said for a long time that as long as LFS remains unfinished there won't be any third party content added to the game.

Imagine that in future patches or stable releases the track format must be modified because there's a new "dirt-on-track" functionality and every track must be taken care of independently. The devs could assure that they would handle their own tracks, but what would happen if third party tracks are not updated? People would moan because their favourite tracks are not playable anymore.

That's just a dumb example, but the point is along those lines. It's just "don't let third party content into something that's still unfinished and evolving". Some people do not understand that LFS is still in an alpha status.

And about real life tracks... are they more fun to drive? More exciting? Does the feeling change when you're driving a real track? They're just tracks, with straightways and corners.

And you know what is cool about fantasy tracks? They don't have to be real yet you can make them look alike real ones! I just hope the devs bring us some new cool tracks with several layouts next time.

Sorry for the bump, but I think this really is an important question that should be answered because league managers don't know how many people are allowed in each track until everybody is connecting to the server and then you realize that there's no room for everybody.

Making 32 players pools and then not being able to hold the league race because you didn't know the track player-limit is not a nice thing
MPR autosave suggestion
MaKaKaZo
S2 licensed
Hi, I've used the serach function and also checked the suggestion logs and didn't find this, so here I go:

Right now we have 3 options to save mpr replays:
  • Don't save
  • Save - manually
  • Autosave
Some people like me don't want to use the "autosave" option as it generates a lot of mpr files thus taking a lot of disk space and also making things hard when you want to find a single file.

I use the manual way, in which I need to press the key '2' to enter a name after the race is finished (or whenever I want during the race) and the replay is saved.

My suggestion is a 'reminder' mode, where the game prompts you (a chat message like when a voting starts) to save a replay after the last pilot crosses the finishing line and the race ends, then you press a single key, i.e. '3' and the replay is saved automatically with a certain name format, like 'date_track_car.mpr'.

The important thing is the reminder chat message, because many times we (I do at least) forget to save the replay when the race finishes. It would also be nice if it worked it qualifying sessions too, as sometimes you don't know for sure if everybody has finished they're valid laps, because people is always entering and leaving the pits even when the time had already run out.

They're just being smart, and it's working so far so no need to rush things. Money keeps flowing as S2 licenses are being sold, which means that although people would like to see new things there's still a market margin for developing S2 to its final without having to add crappy untested things, but doing it the right way.

If the developement system is working, why change it? If the community were clearly fading away they would think about other formulas to attract people, but that's not the case. This means that impatient people will have a hard time waiting becuse bitching won't make the game evolve faster.

I'm totally on the devs side of closing development, as it makes the game more stable and also gets the community together, which doesn't happen with other sims open to third party content, which tend to spread people among different mods.

Anyway, a thing that I would like to see and I think that it would work, would be a "car designing contest", were people would submit their designs and if the dev team really liked one of them they would adapt it with the required stuff and put it into the game. It's not opening the game to the community, but people like these contests and they usually keep the community somehow "happy". Anyway this could not be such a great idea if people start saying "they're doing this because they're out of ideas for new cars" or start bitching like "a lot of people loved my design yet you picked one less wanted". People can be really stupid sometimes.

I say, let's just pray that the community don't die and the dev team keep their great work so we can have exciting racing for a long long time.

Hi, I'm just wondering if there is a manual for LFS Companion, as the link in the first post is broken and in Becky's page there's no link to anything LFS Companion related.

I know this is no longer developed, but I wanted to try it and get the functionality of having real time stats of races. Having watched STCC broadcasts I'm quite curious about how this works and how can I get it to work for me and analyse races and replays, and who knows if even broadcasting in a future?

Any help? Thanks in advance.

I would really like a NFSU with LFS physics. It may sound weird and awful, but it would be interesting. There would be no market for it though as people who usually like NFSU-like games don't like non-arcade physics, and people who like realistic physics usually don't like fancy car-tuning games.

So, is there anything like an official last version of LFSWorldSDK? A friend of mine handed it to me, and googling for it I found a sourceforge site where the last versión i found was actually older to the one my friend gave me. Is there an official site for it? And what is the last version?

Thnx for this work, it really helps
Having two controllers connected
MaKaKaZo
S2 licensed
Hi, this is not a big issue at all but I would like to know if there's a solution to it. The thing is that when I start LFS with my DFP wheel and PS2-like controller both connected and working LFS detects both of them in the controllers option screen (i.e. "2 controllers detected"). The problem is that LFS picks the gamepad as the working controller, so I have to exit the game, unplug the gamepad and then restart so the game only sees the DFP.

As I say it's not a big thing, but I'd like to know if there's a way to tell LFS that I want to use the wheel and not the gamepad so I don't have to worry about what controllers are connected or not

That guy was looking for a "team", I'm looking for a league. I already have a team and don't intend on leaving it. It's just that we want to compete and not just run in friendly races.
Looking for a league like this
MaKaKaZo
S2 licensed
Hi, I'm looking for a league like this:
  • Races every week (very important, not one race every two weeks).
  • All kinds of cars (not "only TBO", or "only open-wheel", but all kind of cars take part in the league).
  • All kinds of tracks (not Blackwood League or similar).
  • Races about 45 min ~ 75 min in a single round, which take tyres to the limit, and sometimes pitstops are obligated because a single set of tyres won't last for the whole race.
  • Near to full grid in every race (15 ~ 20 pilots), and if possible differente pools so people with similar skill levels are gathered in the same pool.
  • Very clean racing.
Is there anything like this? This is the format we were using at lfs-spain and it's the most fun I've had playing LFS, but due to technical issues our great admins are rebuilding the site so I need some adrenaline!

Hi, I'm taking part in today's race as a filling for one of the holes in div.1. Let's say I have a "wildcard"

Anyway, kalle sent me a PM with the server and pass, but I guess it's a copy/paste from the original email or PM that he sent to everyone when the season started, as "Be there atleast 10 minutes before because the qualifying starts precisely at 19:00 UTC (20:00 CET)", while in the league website the schedule says that this race starts at 18:00 UTC. It IS 18:00 UTC and not 19:00, right?

I just want to be sure without having to send him another PM

And good luck to everyone fighting for the top in both divs!

Now that they've made lapped cars appear as grey in patch V8 -which I really like-, they could as well make cars that are a lap ahead of you appear in another color like red or whatever. That way you know if you are catching a pilot in your same lap or you are just going to un-lap yourself with that pilot.

Ok, the ctrl+shift thing worked. But clicking on the kick button only starts a vote even if you are admin, so that's not a solution. Anyway, with ctrl+shift I'm fine :-)
How to kick people?
MaKaKaZo
S2 licensed
Hi, I was having problems with a player yesterday in our team server, but I didn't get to kick him (it was my first time).

Today I've been trying to do it with a teammate again, but I'm still missing something.

I only get it to work with "/kick lfs_username", but not with "/kick current_player_nickname", so I guess the only way to do it is using their lfs names. But the problem is that I don't know how to look up those names. I've tried the command "/names" which is supposed to work as a toggle switch between player names and user names, but it won't work, or at least I don't know where the change takes effect -not in car names and neither in the connections list-

Our server is the latest dedicated server version.

Any help? I really need to know how to find a player lfs name, because guessing it is... impossible most of the times.

I've seen that Fusion RT uses joomla, but I don't know about anyone else. The fact is that I'm interested in joomla but I had a quick look at it and found out that it has too many third party modules distributed with a commercial license, which I don't like. It's gaining strength as a candidate though as I think it has very indepth decoumentation about it's architecture and module developing.

...which CMS do you or would you use?

I'd like to know about people who are running league, events or private-team based websites, if they use any particular CMS for any given reason. Or those people who were to run a site like what would they choose and why?

In our team we are using Xoops, but I don't like it very much.

The reason is I'm developing a league management module for Xoops, but it really lacks the basic documentation on developing third party modules, so it's being a pain in the ass.

I'm thinking about developing it well enough to make something useful so anybody could install it on their site and run and manage LFS leagues/events with it (at least simple ones). And I'm thinking of doing it for the most common or well received CMS amongs the LFS community (maybe even porting to a couple of them). It woulnd't be the ultimate league manager but would allow anyone to run a league without much effort (everything is done through forms and results are taken from lfs_stats results files -html-).

So I'd like to know about your impressions on how well a CMS would perform for a LFS competition site. At least it should have a forum, private messages, articles, a calendar and a shoutbox.

If you know of teams or league with big and well managed websites please tell me about what they use too.

Smith I sent you this in a private message but maybe someone can help me

I'm developing a LFS league management module fos the Xoops CMS and I'd like to ask you for a little reference about LFS Stats.

I use LFS Stats files to automatically upload race results by parsing them. I had taken into consideration DNF and DSQ, but there are more penalties and race situations which I don't know about.

As an example I have this in a file:

16. pilot 1. DNF. (no penalty)
17. pilot 2. +2 laps. (DT penalty)
18. pilot 3. DNF. (no penalty)
19. pilot 4. DNF. (no penalty)

I don't know what that DT penalty is, so I don't know how that pilot should score, as DNF pilots don't score a single point (in my module).

My question is if I could have some kind of reference about the 'penalty' column and its different cases, and other special situations like DNF, DSQ or others that may be shown in other columns.

I could always make it so you can manually alter those results and set it to desired value, but of course the ideal thing would be to have it all done automatically.
How to find myself in LFS ranks?

Hi, is there a way to find out in which position I am in any of the ranks? I'd like to know where I am in the MHR but I don't know if there's a way to do it performing a search somewhere

Oh, and it would be nice to know how many points you're contributing with to your nation ranks!

Thanks for the info android. I'm not touching the torque split, this is a WR set and I'm already used to its handling so I just want to adjust the tyres' temperatures by fine tuning the things that will affect other aspects of the set the least.

If the air temperature affects the pressure, then I guess I should have it green so the pressure is high enough to give me those little extra kmhs at straights, and that little plus of handling at the corners.
Yet another tyres' temperature question
MaKaKaZo
S2 licensed
Hi, I've read posts about tyres sometimes but now I'd like to know a little more in depth about temperatures and how they should be distributed.

When I'm hotlapping I always warm up the tyres nicely before going for the time attack, but I'm always confused when it comes to long races.

Currently I'm driving the FXR at Aston Historic for a race next monday which is scheduled for 27 laps, about 66 min. As I cannot warm the tyres before for the race, they get like this (all tyres R2):

- Front tyres get green inside (not the inner surface), but too hot on the surface at times if I brake too hard. The inner surface is quite hotter than the outer.
- Rear tyres won't get green on the inside, they remain quite blue, but the surface is in a nice green in the inner side, but blue in the outer.

I'd like anyone to explain what's the effect of the inner temperature. When I'm hotlapping I get the rear tyres get all green nicely both in surfaces and the inside, but the blue inside during race simulation worries me a bit. I think that although the surface is green the tyres are not responding as they should.

I think that reducing camber (in the rear) would get the inner warmer as the heat distributon in the surface would be more equitative, but I don't know if that would take away too much cornering speed.

Any help with temperatures?
