I watched this and meant to post about it. I loved it and the commentary was funny and very entertaining. The 'blame game' tribute was just hysterical!

Great job!

Quote from Gargantula :Very nice to know! Thanks! Now I really want a Logitech G25 racing set.

I just ordered the RS2006 pedals from Act Labs. They will be in Monday and I will post my review after I have had them a week or so.

According to Act Labs they are exactly the same as the A1GT Advantage1 (that are about 100 US dollars more) pedals except the A1GT's are made in Austrailia by order and the RS2006s are made by lot in china. Same components and are metal as well. Plus you can buy pedal pads for them from a local auto store or get a nice set of Sparco/MOMO pedal pads from Ebay or a racing shop.

As far as a shifter i am going to get a Lightning SST. Super fast and made of metal components. It isn't a realistic shifter. It is made for sim racing performance. A lot of people i've heard say that it is the best shifter you can buy for sim racing. I've tried the Act Labs shifter and didn't like it. I did like the old act labs pedals and everybody i've heard talk about the new ones say they are really good as well.

I am going to keep my DFP for now since I am well used to it.

I have free track w/one point tracking. It works very well for the price. I don't use it for realism, i use it for functionality and performance. It does take some messing with to make it work correctly and smooth. Other more expensive and probably better solutions like TrackIR I would imagine would work better 'out of the box' because of standardized hardware and faster polling rates then a cheap webcam. With free track it can be hit and miss since almost everybodys equipement is more then likely different in some form or fashion. I put my free track together for 10 US dollars. I had a friend that owed me a favor that had a webcam new in box (microsoft vx1000). One infrared LED, a AA battery holder and a molex connecter from radioshack. I use the tube from a BIC pen to hold the LED and attached the female molex connector to the end. The other molex is on the tip top of my headphone set and the battery holder is mounted on the side of the headphone set. This way I can plug in the LED pen, if you will call it that, to the headset and use it for LFS. This way I can turn it off easy and not have to worry about being in the way during non LFS activities. I tried the hat, but that was annoying to wear.

Hope this helps.

Good luck!

Quote from dougie-lampkin :AFAIK, it's illegal to have your mirrors improperly set up in Ireland. The official guideline is something like "Your car should occupy 5% of the mirror" or something...if you can't see your own car, you don't know where someone is in relation to you.

Dang. Never heard that before. The moment I set my mirrors up the way I described I knew exactly where the other cars were. The problem, the way I see it, is that most people don't take the time to learn their road vehicles basic limitations. Whether that be traction, turn radius or even mirrors. Most get in, drive and leave the rest to god. Sometimes meeting him in the process.

I would love to see adjustable mirrors in car. I don't see the need to show the outside of the car in side mirrors though. And no need for real time angles like from moving you head side to side in the cockpit using whatever method you can do that with. This would be for better execution of lane changes, side by side corning or anything else that can relate. Not really a realism feature.

I my real life vehicle, which is a Chevy Tahoe btw, i have my mirrors set so that when a vehicle behind me moves from center to a side or side to the center it's image is passed to the next mirror. So in other words my mirrors never show the car twice. It like a panoramic WS in my mirrors. So when a car overtakes mine, I can see the car beside me (in my mirror) as it moves around my car all the way until i can see the front of it out my window on the corresponding side of the car. At that point I can still see the tail end of the car in my mirror as well. This way i rarely have to look over my shoulder to change lanes, but do anyways out of good habit.

This would greatly enhance the drive ability of the the cars in lfs during racing. Surely with the graphics chips and CPUs available from the past 2 years should be able to handle the performance hit.

Thats my 2 cents.

I look in the server browser, but i didn't see it.

Quote from Motordirex :Exactly! I appreciate running TBO's on the Phoenix server, and I will race it when I get the time next week, but would like to race a decent CTRA server thats not Race 1 or single seaters for N. Americans.

We need a way for promoting LFS in the Amerca's. There are plenty that get on it here, but there could be more. Many are missing out that just don't know about it.

Quote from Motordirex :Gee, I feel like a simple "gamer" reading things like that, cuz I cant tell the difference. Either it works or doesnt work. I dont know enough about racing cars to know WHY its working or not.

It's the tire scrubbing, heat, extra noise and excessive understeer in fwd cars that bothers me. I like to ease my tires to proper temp and not grind them on the tarmac. During racing where you are between other cars it really helps maintaining the cars pace, because you don't have to make a crazy understeering corner that uses the whole track. It works because it will allow your drive tires to turn at different speeds in the corner so there isn't as much loss of traction to those wheels under acceleration and deceleration.

I don't consider anybody that enjoys LFS to be classified as simple at all.

Quote from Christopher Raemisch :=) It makes a big difference in your tire temps once you have reached a certain level of skill in the TBO's. I have found with the RB4 that most WR sets, and most sets in general use locked diffs and the tires don't last for more than a few laps. I put a clutch pack on the front with a low preload, you want to be as low as possible, without effecting too much stability. I have found that by doing this you can get the RB4 to hold tire temps as well as an XRT, it also helps to 'free' up the car, remove power from the front tires (I usually run less than 35% bias) and remove as much ARB as possible. Less ARB's overall increase the 'grip' of the tires =) Too little though increases body roll too much which again decreases your grip.

Or in other words. He has the RB4 setup to be as close to the RWD car as possible. Sorta.

I and a few friends here in the states want to get up to our silver licenses and start populating the Race 2 server during the hours that most many European drivers are not on. Hopefully putting 3 or 4 drivers in those hours will attract more people to that server as a start. I really would like to see more N. American and S. American drivers. I am currently at bronze and we normally end up perfecting our Black Wood Setups and techniques during those hours on demo servers. Rough racing the demo servers are. Funny we have made a 3 month career out of Black Wood, but hey I guess that is LFS for us. Not really as good on SO and FE tracks yet, though we have put in some effort. We try and stay away from the Lock Diff setups and stick to LSD sets which seem to require more time to perfect, but we like the results and the way the cars handle with the work put into them.

Quote from word. :You guys just don't understand do you. What 169 driver was it. AS I SAID: drivers AFTER 169.21 are broken. Therefore 169.01/169.02/169.04/169.09 ALL WORK FINE.

OH. OK. I am using 169.21 drivers. The current drivers. Oh yeah and I don't have any problems. I'm not forcing the settings global either. I set them in in the NVidia Control Panel under the Live for Speed profile. Trying to isolate the problem to a certain type of GPU, OS or driver If the is a pattern or combination that fits. And since there are 2 popular OSs now and 2 types of GPUs on 8800 series card I thought I would take a stab at that and see. I couldn't recreate the problem, so I'm digging deeper.

So good to hear the positive from a Driver instead of a rant/complaint/etc...

Very inspiring! Really makes me want to try even harder to race clean. This makes me want to race right now! Though I'm stuck at work in our silly Daylight Savings Time Zone right now. Apparently somebody in my government seems to think they control the time. My dad calls it "Poor Man's Jet Lag"Big grin. By the time I get on most of you guys in that neck of the woods are all gone. hhmm. I set mine as a game profile in nvidia control panel under Live for speed, not global. Is this the new 8800gts/gt chip or the older 8800gts chip?

I tested mine after I posted and I could adjust the AA from the nvidia panel with my 8800 on the current 169 drivers. I am talking about XP BTW.

The project i just finished up tonight is one of the big things that has been holding me back from working on other things. Hopefully it fixes a lot of problems. Maybe I will be to use VS a bit more now. The only thing I tried with .net was a application launcher that we could use to launch other inhouse custom apps from web pages. I could get it to work on my local machine well, but from client machines it didn't do so well. Ever done anything like that?

Quote from mcgas001 :Noes, Its for my local music player So i can play all my music via a custom music player It does work with ASP.Net though.

Ahh. Cool. Sorry. My mind goes nuts sometimes. I normally stick to php at the moment. My bosses want to do Visual Studio and bought me the software, but since I also get to upgrade our medical systems, police our public access wifi and a nice list of other things visual studio hasn't seem to much light yet. They are already talking about oracle custom apps and some business intelligence suites. OverLoad!

}

Thats some very usefull and very annoying code. Im using that now in my media player so i can play all songs in My Music or somewhere else..

or you can do this...

DirectoryInfo Di = new DirectoryInfo("C:\\Documents and Settings\\Sean\\My Documents\\My Music");
FileInfo[] FlderFiles = Di.GetFiles("*.mp3");

foreach (FileInfo F in FlderFiles)
{
MessageBox.Show(F.Name);
}

And that returns all .mp3 files

E: Sorry Sam for turning this into the programmer forum, I just get carried away...

Ok. So you can load the page and it will grab the files from your my music or dir you specify and allow you to stream the music from a local or external location?

I could be playing LFS. The upgrade broke so i could be here a while......

It's really had to say about iracing.

1. It seems it will be for hardcore simracers and people that want to use it for practice in the real world. Kinda like a no noobs allowed policy without saying out right with big bold lettering at the top of their webpage.

2. As much time and money they have put into to make a hardcore sim community I don't think they will have any problems banning people that attempt to ruin it. But, there is always that bottom line that has to be met and I think they have millions invested in this project. From my understanding John Henry loves simracing with a passion and wants to be the best. I think he is privately funding iracing. Honestly though anybody who is going to pay to play a game like iracing isn't going to mess about too much I would think.

WOW bans and deletes accounts all the time for people that get caught selling them on Ebay or other mediums. Then again WOW has like 10 million active accounts so they aren't hurting.

I suppose we will wait and see. I haven't decided if I'm even going to try it yet. I still have some improvement to make in LFS. I've only been racing 3 months.
