I think it is a good thing that they are not banned outright. This way, all the cheaters highlight the bits in the game that need to be fixed before it is released as a finished product. They won't want to play it once it is complete, and they have to rely on their own abilities in order to do well.
I don't like the idea of modding this game at all, but that is just my personal opinion. The really sad thing is that, as with all games, it does not matter how much new official or modded content there is, there will allways be the the favourites that get played to death, and the rest will be left to gather cobwebs in the corner.
I liked the LX month idea to promote different combos, and would love to see more done by the devs and community to promote the diversity that already exists in the game.

The variety is already there, and it is not being used, so why do we need more content?
To be honest, I don't know if I have ever driven against any players who have used this altered model, I just see cars when I am racing, not their drivers. I can understand why some people would like to have the ability to use plain clothes models, but I do think it is a good idea to let server admins choose to limit this for the sake of immersion in a simulated race.
It must look pretty odd seeing somebody flying at 300kph+ in a bf1 without a helmet on! Does anybody have a screenshot of this?
We were racing foxes on the Redline servers. I was in second position behind one of the regulars there. He was faster in the first sector and I was faster in the last; I had to brake to avoid hitting him on the last turn on most laps. On the last lap, I decided to drop back a bit, so that I could get a clean run through the last turn. This worked perfectly, and I overtook him on the exit of the turn. My only miscalculation was the width of the rear wheels. Our rear wheels touched and this sent us both spinning. He spun over the finish line and I was thrown over the pit wall, where I was black flagged for breaking the speed limit, whilst sliding on my head...
It is quite far from standard, - every time I crash it I improve something on it
next step is to replace the horrible rotary damper...but the ohlins aftermarket replacement shock is ridiculously overpriced.
when I first got it (second hand) it was pushing 124bhp, and 106nm (on the same dino as the latest figures). The major performance increase since then is due to the having the heads gas flowed and the valve seats cut.
Whenever I set lfs to use sequential shifting, it automatically uses the paddles. Is there any way I can set it to use the shifter in sequential mode instead?
I think everybody missed the true intention of this post - In my opinion it was just posted to say: "my dad has a l337 carzor thats wickeder than an XRT :P"
Edit: note to Tommy - It is an interesting topic that you have brought forward, but you would have got a much better response if you had posted posted your statement as a question for debate, rather than using such a strong "THIS IS WRONG" tone. But anyway, my input into the discussion:
My bike weighs 180kg, and pushes approx 130bhp and 110nm at the wheel. I would not be able to get below 10 seconds on it, despite the high torque and power to weight ratio, unless I had a specific drag setup. The best I have ever managed over a quarter mile was 10.5x, I hit the sweet spot on that run - fast pull-away, smooth gearchanges and the front wheel was hovering about 2 inches of the ground for the first 200m. If I had tried to go any faster, I would have flipped the bike. Power is not everything, setup has a lot to do with it, as well as the vehicle's ability to use the power that it has effectively.
I'm being pedantic, but half life 1 was actually built on a modified quake2 engine, the other games based on halflife 1 are mods of halflife 1, not standalone games.
oh, ok, I am glad to hear that the first has been addressed - thank you! (does that mean that if position 1 & 2 on the copper server were silver licence holders, position 3 would get the same points as if he/she came in 1st?)
I think it is the nature of the point driven game that brings out the competitive animosity in some people. Which is a pity, since it does feel like less of a community than some of the other servers I regularly race on.
I think it is a good thing that the choice remains with the player whether they want to take part in a STCC type ladder or not.
I don't particularly like or dislike the stcc servers, but I do like the idea of having an additional purpose for all the time spent playing this addictive game/sim, and I appreciate the effort that has gone into building such a comprehensive system.

I would like to take part in more stcc races, but the following points would need to be addressed before that would happen regularly.
1. Drivers who have a higher licence than the current server they are racing on is offering should receive no points for their positions. This would stop people getting stuck on one server, and open up more opportunities for people actually trying to get the licences to progress.
2. Server admins should embark on a "let's be friendly on the STCC servers" campaign. I race in this sim for fun and to be part of this sim racing community. There is no other reward apart from that. I am generalising, but most times I have joined the stcc servers, my opposition have been sour and unfriendly, and with the occasional idiot that thinks the side of my car looks like a spare brake disk, just for a few extra points.

The current prototype uses a gsxr1300 motor, the final product will use a custom v8 build from two gsxr1300 motors. If you read on the dpcars website, you will see a concurrent project where one of these v8's is being shoehorned into an ariel atom
I wear socks, because the g25 pedals can get pretty cold! and the socks help my feet to slide slightly on the pedals. I have never tried with shoes on, purely because that would wear the pedals more.
Strangely enough, I have never felt fear of injury or death on a rl track - once you put your leathers on and see the large run-off areas, you feel invincible. The only fear that has ever slowed me down in real life is the fear of a large bike repair bill. I have never come off on the track before - touch wood - so perhaps that would change once I do.
In sims, I would rather crash out than take out an opponent - I know what I feel like when I get crashed out mid race, by somebody else's stupidity or over confidence, and I don't want others to feel that way.
I had a similar problem with one of my old machines when hl2 just came out. It ran everything perfectly, and then crashed after a few minutes of playing hl2. Temperatures were fine, as I had monster fans cooling it. As it turns out, one of these fans was on the same power rail as the graphics card, and and the two together drew too much power. I upgraded the power supply and all was well after that.
Im not into drifting, so I can't comment on your technique. Purely from a spectator point of view, I think that your exhibitions would look more spectacular and controlled if you didn't repeatedly mount the kerb on the inside of the apex.
By default, the person who produces a design owns copyright on that design. Patents are something completely different, and don't affect copyright at all.
For example, the copyright for LFS is owned by the development team. They would be able to patent the methods used in their physics engine if they wanted to, and this would stop other developers using similar methods in their physics engines, but this has no impact on the fact that they own the copyright of this design.
Please tell me if if you still don't understand, and I will explain it to you with a simpler example.
I am not saying anybody would be that extreme, or should be. I am just saying that as a graphic designer, I own the copyright on any of my designs, until the copyright is sold, given away or made null in a public statement. If I design a skin, I own the copyright of that skin until one of the above happens.
Wrong - The designer of any artwork owns the copyright of the artwork, unless he/she sells the copyright, gives away the the copyright, or declares that the artwork can be used freely.
Well, I have been playing games for far too many years (who here remembers rogue, elite and frogger on a hercules pc/xt? or more on topic, the first accolade driving games, test drive and grand prix? )
Part of the reason I decided to get involved in this game is BECAUSE it is an independently developed game. Modern games have become an industry comparable to the music industry or the movie industry. Big money, major marketing, crap content. LFS has the feel of the old, fun games that I used to enjoy, before the industry decided that I was just a consumer, boxed into a specific demographic for them to throw their marketing at me.
In Game Advertising (IGA) is another reason why I don't want to play any of the new ea or valve games. I don't own a tv, because I don't like the advertising on it, and I certainly don't want advertising thrown at me while I am playing, or to install the IGA spyware with my games...
(examples of games infiltrated by the IGA spyware include Race, BF2142 and Valve have recently signed a contract with IGA as well to place dynamic advertising into counterstrike)
I am happy with the content that this game/sim has already. Every update is a bonus! It is the most fun I have had playing since quake 1.
