All the links should be working again - sorry about that. I don't play LFS at all anymore and I forgot to re-upload the folder when I changed servers.

At least Ferrari owned up and is doing the right thing by all of their owners respect for that.

I think series 15 of Top Gear was actually pretty good, much better than the last 2 at least! I'd like to pass on a link to my Top Gear blog if anyone is interested in taking a look

Quote from bunder9999 :thoughts:

the track isn't big enough. the stig's fastest time is 1:44:4.

is BL3 bigger than AU1? that might be an alternative, if it's big enough.

and even though you didn't put any bouncy-barriers on the track, i've always thought they look better than random chalk lines all smushed together that i've seen on so many layouts.

other than that, it's a good track to goof around on... i think i had it downloaded it at some point.

BL3 is actually smaller, so we are out of luck. i went for chalk lines because full on barriers everywhere would have wrecked the look of it in my opinion. the real track is on an open airfield so i tried to do the same.

by the way, in the first post:

Quote from Takumi_Project.D :Test runs in the LFS reasonably priced car (UF1) has returned times of 1:01. So yes I understand it isn't exactly true scale, but its impossible to make it properly (for now)

Quote from JasonJ :About as much chance of that as slowing down time.

Is it just me or does the start straight feel too thin?

mate, there are plenty of things which are more wrong than the width of that straight

the track had to be seriously resized to suit the limited autox area. where possible i have tried to keep the corners as a fairly accurate representation of the real ones.. but the scale (and length) of the track changed so much.

I could have made the start straight wider, but then the section between the first corner and chicago would have been much shorter. it's also worth noting, the second time you come through chicago (past the tyre bundle, on tv) you are driving back onto the main runway again - it should be straight and lining up with the runway going down to the hammerhead, but you'll notice i put a kink in it. because if i made it straight that corner would barely be a corner at all. sorry if it's confusing, there were just many things to consider, that's all

Quote from (SaM) :LFS is a simulator.

The purpose of a simulator is to simulate reality.

Now ask yourself this question: Is it possible to switch damage off in reality? Is it possible to switch hangovers off? Is it possible to switch nagging mother's-in-law off?

No.

You're simply mistaking LFS for a fantasy based game.

GTR2 is a simulator.. is it possible to turn damage off in that? Yes!
I'm simply suggesting LFS becomes more customisable and accessible! Calm down

Quote from tristancliffe :The learning curve in real life isn't made easier by the disabling of damage, yet people cope. If they want to learn LFS, then I don't see how those variables will hinder them in the slightest.

Why can't you have close racing now?

You can indeed have very close racing now, and I didn't deny that. Of course people do cope with the curve, if someone is determined to learn LFS they will of course be able to do it. I just suggest that if these options were available, it would open the game up to even more people - and at the same time have very little effect on those who are already here. The end result would probably be a handful of servers on your server list with a few of the above realism settings disabled. You could probably filter these out if you like too

In a business sense, it would make more sense to market your game to the widest group of people possible. If making the game more customisable in this regard it means that more people can pick up your game and learn it, I believe it would be a good move.

Also, I've never played GTR2, but according to this quote it appears to use similar logic to what I am suggesting:

Quote :Another big feature is the scalable difficulty which starts out as novice by default, then there’s semi-pro and simulation. Novice is for the beginners and a lot of the realism of the game is removed to help you better adjust, it’s also good for those looking for some quick fun. Semi-pro has better realistic racing behaviors and is still merciful for car control. Simulation is the authentic racing experience and what GTR 2 is really all about, cars and the circuits behave as they would do in real life. You can also switch on and off ‘driving assists’ such as braking, stability, damage, automatic clutch, traction control and a few others, depending on your difficulty selection.

Anything which makes a game more accessible to new users has to be a bonus, wouldn't you say? I personally see it as a vital addition..

Well I've done searches, plus it isn't in the suggested improvements log

it's interesting that LFS S1 was never called an arcade game, always a simulator
one could say it's just different levels of simulation?

Server settings: Damage / tyre wear / fuel etc

Hey guys, just have an idea I'd like to bounce off everyone.

What would be wrong with having server side options for the following?

Body + suspension damage on/off
Tyre wear on/off
Clutch wear on/off
Fuel usage on/off

Before you flame, keep in mind if these were implemented as server options, the majority of servers would probably leave them enabled for realism. But surely having these all as options would bring more things to more people?

It may seem funny, but more recently I am missing the simplicity of LFS S1 - my friends and I used to have so many intense and awesome races lap after lap, purely because it was so simple with less variables and this kept the racing close. It was not uncommon to have 50 lap endurance races that had a battle for the lead going on from start to finish!

Is it realistic to have all of the above options turned off? No it isn't. Would it hurt LFS to include these options? I don't believe it would. The sim purists would still have a huge amount of servers with everything enabled, and those who are looking for something different would have a few servers to choose from with one or more of these turned off.

Just my opinion, I'd appreciate everyone elses opinion given with the same respect

it was probably something to do with the domain forwarder i was using on the url's. that is all changed and any downloads from now on WILL be fine

either that or my layouts are too hardcore for your computer JK

although all the links were working fine, I have updated them all to link directly to the true location on the server, rather than using a domain forwarder. this perhaps was causing some troubles for people before.

Quote from BullHorn :Is there any way to lower the sensitivity of the mouse ingame?

I don't have a wheel for now, so I have to play with a mouse, but it's too sensitive.

probably not very helpful, but increase the screen resolution you run LFS with if you can. in LFS going lock to lock with the steering wheel is the same as going from far left to far right in windows. making the resolution higher will mean the mouse has further to travel, hence reducing sensitivity..

if you cant make the res higher due to your monitor or frame rates... set windows to the same resolution you play LFS at, then adjust the mouse speed in windows control panel, testing how far you have to move it to go all the way left and all the way right on the screen.

set windows screen res back to whatever it was and launch LFS

you just gotta keep the power on and watch the angles. if you try to hang the back end out too far you'll shed too much speed and stuff it up

here's an xrg drift video of mine on youtube (this one is on autox though)

i haven't driven the layout, but just curious - why did you choose to restrict the width of the track in those 2 places up the top of the screenshot? i think it would flow much nicer with those objects removed

sure, here it is.

I am away until sunday so there may not be any new layouts for a little while. I have a few being constructed though!
