Pointless addition.

The devs have greater issues and features to be bothered with than simulating a rev-limiter. If you're driving properly anyway, you'll almost never touch the limiter.

Another somewhat large bump.

This time I'm having the issue with the server "solo2.k9k.net", an autocross server.

I can get into the pit, but once I click join, it puts me on the start grid, and then boots me, with the :OOS - MPSYS :Initial Synchronization Failed, then attempts to re-connect to the server.

I have noticed that only the host is logged into the server right now, and that seems to be the common between all us with these issues.

A very great addition, devs.

I had previously ran very front-biased braking setups on the FXO in hopes to eliminate locking my left-rear tire in hard braking and cornering, but after using the ABS feature in the test patch, it's much more tire-friendly - hardly a hot-spot on my tires after 7 laps of South City torture!

I've yet to find any other bugs to report.

I imagine if one were to construct 3D headlights below the skin of the car, and make the existing lenses transparent, that it would look even more realistic than it does now!

Great stuff guys.

Apologies for the delay. Thanks for the information.
Clutch Temp Value, Location?
Daviticus

After doing a bit of brainstorming, I've come to this. Now, I am a complete idiot when it comes to coding/scripting, so bear with me.

I imagine with LFS, each vehicle has its' own clutch temp value - whatever value this may be, and what modification does what, I have no idea? Though I do ask, would it be possible to change this value on-the-fly, to allow clutch-slippage to hold the engine at one rpm? This would essentially be a launch-control function seen most commonly with automatic-transmissions - holding the engine against the torque converter's stall-speed to build boost. It could also slip variably [depending on throttle and gear] to a specified RPM [converter stall rpm].

I'm hoping that made sense? I suppose I could break it down ... I'm looking for the ability to change clutch temp value on-the-fly via an external program, etc.

Any suggestions to get me headed in the correct direction? Thanks in advance to any scripters/developers.

I like it.

Didn't Top Gear try an episode like this?

I'm going to compare lap times with a set handicap, see what I can find.

7/10.

I do like the concept, very cool to have a lap commentary with a driver.

Your voice reminds me of WRC navigators. On a couple of those fast-paced in-out-in corners, you got quite excited, that really got me liking the vid.

While race lines could have been a bit cleaner, you did mention you are using an X360 controller - a wheel would be your best bet, but great paddle driving, nonetheless.

7/10, sir. Looking for more videos from you soon!

Loved the music, fit great with your editing style. Also digging the crashes, rollovers, etc, usually people avoid those in an LFS vid. Some of your angles even looked braodcast-quality. I like it.

I noticed a few little subtle items, like when the XFR hits the wall just before pit, the screen goes to static, much the same as an onboard camera would in an actual car. Great touch.

7/10.

The idea in itself, is a great one, and I agree wholly.

However, due to the fact that when we exit the garage, we're teleported to whichever pit is convenient/available/what-have-you, and we can stop at any pit space [regardless of pit usage] it would be unneccessary.

+1 for the thought.

This would be very useful, as I constantly misplace the notepad which I've got all my setup notes, changes and their effects, etc. plotted down. I've even gone so far as to figure approximate tyre lifespans with given tracks, heating cycles, and toe-changes.

I would prefer brake temperature/fade be modeled, as it more closely mimics what happens every time I drive in a spirited manner.

It's hard to overheat 11.3" rotors and track-compound pads in a VR6 Jetta, but I find myself glowing rotors and igniting pads after a heavy canyon-carving session. Says one of two things there, either One - I'm driving too closely to the limits of my car's breaks; or Two - my driving style provokes excessive use of the brakes. I'm inclined to think the former before the latter, but both could equally be true.

What I've found in LFS concerning the differentials is, it's a matter of driving style that ultimately decides diff tuning.

The drift setup I most commonly use with the XRT is in fact a clutch-type LSD. As with real life, when I drift I initiate with a weight-shift, side-brake, or clutch-kick, I don't need the inside-tire-overtorquing that occurs with a welded/locked diff to break traction.

With the grip setup I use with the XRT, it's a Viscous LSD. Combined with throttle-control, power-oversteer and corner-exit "twitchiness" is eliminated.

To the discussions'-end, until tire physics are more accurately modeled, the differential selection is merely an accentuation of driving style, and ultimately as useful as the tyre brand selection tool.

Quote from eight6er :The limiter you speak of in the VR6 and Nissan are similar to the lfs limiter but, they do not just stay exactly on the limit and stay there with no change in revs what so ever, no matter what the conditions. These are two cars I have tried so I know this from experience.
I know the limiter in lfs is probably the perfect limiter for a racing car but most road cars do not have this.

http://s64.photobucket.com/alb ... &current=101_0142.flv

Listen closely when I tag the limiter in 1st gear. It's just for a slight moment, before I shift. Burbles right off 6500. It's also audibly noticeable by the change in engine tone [it becomes rough in quick succession, not smooth]. Never once has this car dipped-then-revved while hitting the limiter, it's always a smooth 6500 revs, no more, no less.

Now, go into LFS and redline the XRT, for example. Sounds pretty close to identical, to me. Maybe it's my driving habits at the limiter that create this difference in opinion [trust me, I spend a LOT of time on the limiter, 3rd gear is too tall for some of the twisty roads I tackle and 2nd is just too short ].

Couldn't agree more.

The handful of times I've been in Europe, the most enjoyment was had either on B-roads or in pubs.

To the best of my knowledge, the Lancer Evolutions did not have an adjustable center diff until the 7 models. None of the models from Evolution to Evo 9 have TCS, though I believe the Evolution X now does.

Just to comment on the "realism" of the current limiter ...

My '97 VW Jetta VR6 has a soft-limiter almost identical to LFS' at 6500revs. Also, several CA18DET-equipped Nissans I've driven have had such a limiter, albeit with a bit more POP in the pipes from running stupid-rich.

I think what most people are looking for in LFS is a forceful ignition-cut style limiter. While it's common and widely-used in the standalone-engine-management world, it's not common in standard-ECU-equipped road cars [they use a fuel-cut limiter].

Just food for thought.

Thanks for the response vortech! Unfortunately, the 1.0 dll doesn't solve my issue. I'll keep digging around for a solution.

Not sure if anyone else is having this issue ...

When I start LFS, the AnaGauges program works beautifully, but when I switch tracks, the gauges no longer appear, and I have to restart LFS to get them to show up properly again.

Also, after about 5 minutes of LFS running, I get two error messages at the top-left:

ERROR:WOULDBLOCK
INSIM:ANAGAUGES CLOSED

^ Don't quote me on that exact message, I can't recall exactly what it said off the top of my head.

Anywho, the gauges will still function, and change with car changes, but as before, with track changes they disappear.

I've downloaded and reinstalled d3d8.dll several times, and from several different versions [currently running v0.17]. Also tried three different clean-installs of LFS and AnaGauges, to no avail.

Quote from aroX123 :Steam is buzzed down all the time, i cant login.
Most of the time i cant login, it says:

Could not connect to Steam network.
This could be due to a problem with your Internet connection, or with the

My internet is all fine. WTF? help? REALLY annoying

Happens to me everytime I start my PC. I've found that Steam is executed on startup BEFORE my WiFi drivers load, which trips the no-connection fault. I usually just click "quit", as I've got a keyboard hotkey for Steam.
