\con_wind
This is a precaution for two possible situations that can arise on some computers when running a game in full-screen mode.

1) If you are running a personal firewall, it may bring up a warning message when you try to start or connect to an online game.

2) Some computers may bring up a connection dialog box when you try to access the internet.

These messages can cause some computers to lock up if the game is running full-screen, so this option makes the game go temporarily into a window while connecting.

If your computer does not bring up any messages when connecting then you can safely turn off this option.
\con_opt
The game can connect to other players either directly or indirectly (via the host).

Recommended settings :

Maximum - for good internet connections with a personal firewall or no firewall.
Firewall - for good internet connections behind a business firewall or connection sharing.
Minimum - for slow or or less reliable connections.

Technical :

Maximum - your computer tries to connect to all players and allows new players to connect to
you, ensuring the least possible delay between any two computers.
Firewall - if your pc is behind a business firewall or connection sharing it is impossible for
others to connect directly to your pc. This option stops new players trying to do so.
Minimum - your computer will only connect to the host computer and will not allow any direct
connections with any other players. This can help with slow connections.
\host_pw
Some hosts are set up to require a password, and are known as private hosts.

If you are connecting to a private host, you must enter the password in this box.

Public hosts do not require a password.
\game_nm
Public game - enter a name in the box to give your game an identity on the internet.

Private game - the name allows your friends to find you without needing your IP address.
\ip_name
You can connect to a specific game either by using an IP address or a game name.

1) The IP address directly identifies the computer on which the game is hosted.

2) A name search uses a list of games on the master server to find the IP address.
\host_ip
You can connect to a game hosted on a particular computer on the internet.

The IP address is a unique number assigned to every computer connected to the internet.

It is written as 4 numbers separated by 3 full stops.

Click on the button and type in the IP address of the computer you want to join.

Two ways to find out the IP address of a PC :

1) Run WINIPCFG from the start menu.
2) Run IPCONFIG from a DOS prompt.
\host_nm
You can connect to a game hosted on a particular computer on the internet.

To search for a game by name instead of using the IP address, enter its name in the box.

Game names allow you to arrange to meet a friend online even if you don't know what the IP address will be.
\game_pw
You may host a private game by entering a password in the box.

To host a public game, leave the box blank.
\master_ip
The IP address of the master server sometimes changes and can be found at :

      www.liveforspeed.net

Please click on the button and enter the IP address as 4 numbers separated by 3 full stops.

The master server is a special program running on a computer on the internet. It holds a list of games that are currently running and allows you to start or connect to online games.

1) If you require a list of games to join, the list will come from the master server.

2) If you search for a specific game by name, the search will go through the master server.

3) If you start a new game you have the option of notifying the master server, in which case your game will be added to the list, to allow other players to join your game.
\use_master
The game you start will be listed on the master server if this option is ON.

1) If you don't specify a password, this will allow any other players on the internet to connect to your game.

2) If you do specify a password, your friends will be able to connect to you by using a name and password.

Note 1 : You can link up with your friends without using the master server. In that case the player who starts the game must tell the other players his or her IP address.

Note 2 : If your computer is connected indirectly to the internet through internet connection sharing or a business network with a firewall, no-one will be able to connect to you through the master server. If you run a host on your network, only computers on your network will be able to connect to you, by using the host's ip address. In this case there is no point in using the master server.
\master_help
The program was unable to connect to the master server.

This could be for various reasons:

1) The master server IP address may have changed.
2) The master server IP address may not have been entered correctly.
3) The master server may not be running.
4) If you are protected by a firewall it may have blocked the connection.

Please check the status and IP address of the master server at :

      www.liveforspeed.net

More information about the master server can be found by clicking the help button next to the master server IP address button on the multiplayer screen.

You can set the number of computers that will be able to link up on your host.

The host is counted as one connection.

Minimum setting: 2 - only one player will be able to join your host.

Maximum setting: 8 - seven other players will be able to join.
