\demo_warning
^3Welcome!^8 You are about to be shown a list of ^7DEMO^8 hosts that you can join very easily by clicking on their ^7name^8 and then the ^7GO^8 button.

^3Warning!^8 On the ^7DEMO^8 hosts you will meet users that have not registered on our site and purchased a Live for Speed license - they are effectively ^7anonymous^8 and this means it's possible you may encounter childish or foolish behaviour, aggressive racing styles or bad attitudes from a minority of users.

Unfortunately this is inevitable with ^7unregistered^8 online gaming, but we would like to emphasise that this kind of behaviour does ^7NOT^8 reflect in any way the racing that you would find on ^7S1^8 and ^7S2^8 hosts, where all are registered and have a reputation to maintain!

On the ^7S1^8 and ^7S2^8 hosts you will nearly always find very good racing and courteous behaviour from the other racers.

^7Good luck - drive carefully - have fun! :)^8

\con_wind
This is a precaution for two possible situations that can arise on some computers when running in full-screen mode.

1) If you are running a personal firewall, it may bring up a message when you try to start or connect to an online game.

2) Some computers may bring up a connection dialog box when you try to access the internet.

These messages can cause some computers to appear to lock up if LFS is running full-screen.
This option prevents this by making LFS go into a window temporarily while connecting to the internet.
If your computer does not bring up any messages when connecting then you can safely turn off this option.
\host_pw
Some hosts are set up to require a password, and are known as private hosts.

If you are connecting to a private host, you must enter the password in this box.

Public hosts do not require a password - don't worry about the password option!
\game_nm
^7Public game -^8 enter a name in the box to give your game an identity on the internet.

^7Private game -^8 the name allows your friends to find your game.
\ip_name
^3Options :

^7local network -^8 you can join to a local game by typing in the host's IP address.

^7internet -^8 you can join to a game on the internet by typing in the game name.
\host_ip
You can connect to a game hosted on a particular computer on the local network.

The IP address is a unique number and is written as 4 numbers separated by 3 full stops.

Click on the button and type in the IP address of the computer you want to join.

Two ways to find out the IP address of a PC :

1) Run WINIPCFG from the start menu.
2) Run IPCONFIG from a DOS prompt.
\host_port
When connecting directly by IP address, you need to know the IP address and the port that the host is using.

It may use the default port 63392 or some other port number chosen by the person running the host.

It will be either the default value or a high number less than 65536.
\host_nm
You can connect to a game hosted on a particular computer on the internet.

To search for a game by name instead of using the IP address, enter its name in the box.

Game names allow you to arrange to meet a friend online even if you don't know what the IP address will be.
\meet_room
While you are deciding which host to join, you can enter the meeting room where you may find other racers who are doing the same thing. You will see the names of anyone who is in there and you can talk by typing a message and pressing ENTER.
\game_pw
^7Private game -^8 enter a password in the box.

^7Public game -^8 leave the box blank.
\use_master
The master server is a special program running on a computer on the internet. It holds a list of games that are currently running and allows you to start or connect to online games.

^3Options :

^7Local^8 - your host will not connect to the master server. Other players can connect by clicking on "Join specific game", selecting the "local network" option and typing in the IP address of your computer.

^7Internet^8 - your host will connect to the master server and appear on the list of games.

^7Hidden^8 - your host will connect to the master server but will not appear on the list of games. Other players may connect to your game by clicking on "Join specific game", selecting the "internet" option and typing in your game's name.

^3Note :^8 If your computer is connected indirectly to the internet through internet connection sharing or a business network with a firewall, to use the internet or hidden options, you will need to open the appropriate TCP and UDP ports.
\game_ip
If you need to, you can specify the IP address you want your host to use. This is useful when a computer has more than one available IP address.

If you leave this box blank, the host will use any available IP address.
\admin_pass
You can set a special password for administrators.

If a guest joins using this special password instead of the optional game password, he or she can then operate the host remotely using the special text-based host commands. Please see the README.txt file for more information, in the "Host commands" paragraph.
\game_port
You can select which TCP and UDP port you want your host to use. This can allow more than one LFS dedicated host to run on a single computer.

Use the default value 63392 or choose a high number less than 65536.
\master_help
The program was unable to connect to the master server.

This could be for various reasons:

1) If you are protected by a firewall it may have blocked the connection.
2) It may be temporarily impossible to connect to the master from your ISP.
3) The master server may not be running due to a technical problem.

Please check the status of the master server at :

^7www.liveforspeed.net^8 or ^7www.lfsforum.net^8
\first_tips
Press the Esc key in the game or setup screen to bring up a list of options.

Press the T key to type a text message in a multiplayer game.

Graphics or frame rate problems can often be improved by changing graphics options.

Use of a force feedback steering wheel is recommended.

Use your brakes in good time when you are approaching a corner...
\modem_type
Your computer's ability to run a host with several players depends on your upload bandwidth. This in turn depends on your type of modem and the speed of service provided by your internet service provider.

Please select your type of modem or select a "custom" modem and manually enter the upload bandwith in kilobits per second (Kbits is a commonly used measurement of digital communication speeds).

^7Predefined modem types :^8

- phone line modem : 56 Kbit download / 33.6 Kbit upload
- cable modem : 512 Kbit download / 128 Kbit upload
- cable modem : 1 Mbit download / 256 Kbit upload
\upload_bw
If your modem is not one of the predefined types please manually enter your upload bandwidth in kilobits per second (Kbits/s). If you don't know your upload speed in Kbits/s but you do know it in Kbytes/s, just multiply by 8 to convert to Kbits/s.

This setting helps you to choose your host settings in such a way that you will not exceed this bandwidth.
\max_guests
You can set the number of computers that will be able to connect to your host.

^7Minimum setting :^8 1 - only one player will be able to join your host.

^7Maximum setting :^8 15 in DEMO, 47 in S1 and S2

This number is important for determining your upload bandwidth requirement.
\admin_slots
You can reserve some of your connection slots for administrators.

^7Minimum setting :^8 0 - no slots are kept available for admins.

^7Maximum setting :^8 8 - or one less than the maximum number of guests.

This setting helps to make sure you can always join your own host, if you assign an admin password.
\max_cars
You can set the number of cars that will be able to race.

This includes real and ai drivers.

^7Minimum setting :^8 1 - only one car will be allowed in a race.

^7Maximum setting :^8 12 in DEMO, 32 in S1 and S2

This number is important for determining your upload bandwidth requirement.
\guest_cars
You can set the number of cars that each guest can add to a race.

This includes real and ai drivers.

^7Minimum setting :^8 0 - guests can watch but not join the race.

^7Maximum setting :^8 3 - up to 3 ai drivers or 1 real and 2 ai per guest.
\host_cars
You can set the number of cars that the host can add to a race.

This includes real and ai drivers.

^7Minimum setting :^8 0 - host can watch but not join the race.

^7Maximum setting :^8 3 - up to 3 ai drivers or 1 real and 2 ai drivers.

Reducing this number can reduce your upload bandwidth requirement.
\max_packs
This is the maximum number of packets sent per second by each car.

^7Minimum setting :^8 3 packets per second.

^7Maximum setting :^8 6 - smoother / requires double the upload bandwidth / costs cpu.
\ded_host
You can start a game as a normal host or a dedicated host.

^7normal host :^8 You can play the game as in single player mode and other players on the internet will be able to join your game.

^7dedicated host :^8 With no graphics displayed and no physics calculated, you cannot play on the host. This is the best option if you do not wish to play on the host and instead you wish to connect from another computer. You can use a much less powerful pc to run a dedicated host.
\skin_info
For LFS to automatically download high resolution skins, you must be a licensed racer and have some LFS World credit.

LFS World credit means : a positive balance in your LFS account.

To use this service, you can make a payment at ^7www.lfs.net^8 or ^7www.lfsworld.net^8 or use a voucher.

For each^3 1 ^8of credit you will be assigned^3 2000 ^8skin downloads. The minimum payment is 3.

^7How it works :^8

You need at least 1 of LFS World credit. When you first download a high-resolution skin, 1 will be deducted from your account balance and 2000 skin downloads will be allocated to your account. After downloading 2000 skins, another 1 is deducted and the number of allocated downloads is increased again to 2000.

^7Warning :^8

High resolution skins take longer to download, longer to load up when another racer leaves the pits and use four times the graphics card memory. This option is only recommended if you have a good computer, graphics card and internet connection.
